RE: Jets and burn bans
We have not had any burn bans in Tucson, but it is hot and dry. I would not want to be the guy on the 10:00 news that stated a big fire. Turbines seem to be taking a beating most of the time anyway, so use good common sense, lets protect the hobby I have other planes to fly.

RE: Greater Southwest 2012 Waco Texas
Wanted to Thank HOTMAC, had a great time. Got some great flying done, I would have never believed I left hot Tucson to trade for hot Texas. Now I know why you have the HOT in your name. I now appreciate the drive you guys make to Tucson when you come, and yes Bob O it was even longer going home. Hope to see some more you guys at other events. Clay & Debbie Sherrow

RE: Question to Jet Event Contest Directors
ORIGINAL: rhklenke
ORIGINAL: RCJetBazz Can't agree more, By the way, what if a CD decides to be a Mr. nice guy to allow such an airplane to fly at a jet meet, what would be the proper procedure to file a formal complaint against that CD or CDs?
You've got to be kidding right?!?! You're going to b!$^# and complain about who gets to fly to a *volunteer* who took *his* time to organize an event at *his* field and you want a *formal* way to do it? Sorry, but jet flyins are AMA Class ''C'' events which means there are NO rules - other than those made by the club/CD holding the event. You certainly are within your rights to have a pleasant, adult conversation with the CD and present your objections to having an electric ''turbo-prop'' plane fly at a ''jet'' event, but get in the guys face or threaten to ''file a formal complaint'' and he'd be within his rights to tell you to blow it out your &@^... I take it by your comment that you have not spent the time to become a CD or hold an event. If that's the case, I hope you don't spent a lot of your time telling CDs at events how to do their job. Its a lot of work and *everyone* I know (with the exception of perhaps one or two profit-seeking individuals) goes out of their way to make sure everyone has a great experience - but not at the expense of other attendees. Bob
WOW It is obvious RCJetBazz is not a CD . You are right Bob it is a thankless job. Having to get volunteers to help and with all other stuff you have to put up with. Spending time you do not have to spare getting ready for the event. Sometimes it includes babysitting the pilots who come, plus usually I never get to fly at my own event. As a CD you try and attract as many pilots as possible. Plus you have to keep peoples interest as spectators at the event, usually jets will do it. Most pilots fly jet like aircraft, being powered by a turbine, ducted fan, or and EDF. My event is listed as a Class C event restricted to the above description. It also lists no props, or pulse jets. (Please do not argue that a ducted fan has props or blades, so does a turbine) Most of the pilots we have spoke to seem to like this description. I do not open it up to turbine power aircraft because you will get a Tucano, Raven, maybe a C-130, T-34C, or a turbine helicopter which are all turbine powered aircraft with are all very cool, just not for this event. Now if you had one of these aircraft, (turbo prop) you could call and ask, but my answer would maybe you could do a noon fight for show. It might bring out some interest but not for the event. At the Tucson Aerobatic Shootout, we have spectators that leave after about an hour of prop flying. They will stay for the freestyle but that is it. (what would be the proper procedure to file a formal complaint against that CD or CDs?) My guess you have already had a run with the CD, for some people they will have a calm and private conversation with the CD to work it out. Remember the CD is volunteer. Believe it or not we have ask a pilot to leave an event once, it was a tough decision. AMA was informed of the what took place. So RCJetBazz become a CD and lets see how well you handle the day to day events of a Class C Jet Rally or any AMA event. I am sorry if I have offended anyone. Clay

RE: Question to Jet Event Contest Directors
That is correct it is up to the CD. The CD could list the Class C event as restricted to turbine powered aircraft or list it as a Jet aircraft powered by a turbine, ducted fan, or EDF. Both listings will get you a mixture of aircraft. We list that the aircraft must be able to taxi out and back, plus fly the pattern. This eliminated the hand launch stuff and I guess powered gliders. So each event is tailor to the CD discretion, but the CD has to make hard choices because there is always someone to push the rules setup by the CD. It is also important that that CD establish the rules and safety of the flying. Clay

RE: Question to Jet Event Contest Directors
Tucano is maybe turbine powered but is not a jet. Helicopter may be turbine powered but it is not a jet. I have had people ask to bring a jet like plane that is powered by a 2 stroke spinning a prop to our jet event. Same with a turbine powered Raven, Sorry in my opion it is not a jet. We list our event as a jet being powered by a turbine, ducted fan or EDF. I will not event get into an electric powered Tucano. Clay
