RE: OS 65L & 3 bladed prop
ORIGINAL: MinnFlyer Keep the pitch the same as the prop you're using and go down one size in length. So if you're usinf a 13x8, try a 12x8 If you're using a 14x6, try a 13x6 Etc
OK, Thanks Guys, I should have my tail dragger kit Tuesday and I guess i'll pick up the prop local. I'll take some shots of the bird before and after Vegas/

OS 65L & 3 bladed prop
I had the new trainer al balanced, trimmed out and made several flights. All I can say is for $400.00 it flies beautiful. I'm now ready to convert it to a tail dragger, install wheel pants and maybe even wing struts. But I was also thinking of putting on a 3 bladed prop so the craft has that more vintage eye appealing look to it. Will the OS 65L be OK with a 3 bladed prop? What size prop should I go with? Thanks for any suggestions Vegas./

Hi Gang, I'm looking for an airfoil kite that has a small motor on it and plastic skydiver hanging off the lines. I assume it has 2 tiny servos,1 for steering and 1 for flaring out Price is around the $300.00 mark. appreciate any info Thanks Vegas./

I never had to replace them and they were always holdind the charge very well. That is just my experience, I was trying to help. But everyone can do the way they want. Alex. RE: Re-use radio equip from RTF?
ORIGINAL: shanet75 Thanks for the response. We are all in the same boat and are all quite new at this. We try to help eachother out, but none of us are in any shape to try to train eachother w/a buddy line. It's a good thing working on the planes is almost as much fun as flying them....I have a feeling I'll be having to do some fixing here and there. The radio I have is a cheapo that comes with the tower trainer. A futaba 4 channel. Don't think it has any bells or whistles. I'll just go easy and steady on the sticks and keep things slow.....
JUst a little tip. On the 4 CH transmitters when you set the controls up on the plane make sure the sliders on the transmitter are centered. Thats all I use on three of my trainers when landing. To flare out and cut power I just use the sliders. On my new big MK III I think the pulsating fine adjustment will be to slow. I learned to fly myself lomg ago and kept the plane high and that gave me room and time to get a feel for the controls. Have fun. Vegas/

RE: Logo's And Copyright Protocol......
Got a strange post today from my E mail to my E mail address Someone playing games? ~~~>Subj: (no subject) Date: 10/23/2008 4:15:03 PM Central Standard Time From: SearchNRescue4 To: SearchNRescue4 Hi Guy's, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this but here goes........I'd like to take a large Yak ARF (1/4 scale) and add graphics and lettering, design my own scheme using them and fly it. The thing is though, it might be a delicate issue if the owner of the logo/product name doesn't give me permission first. The idea is to make a Nissan plane, complete with their logo and of course the name. I happen to an be owner and enthusiast of Nissan trucks. Here is my website: www.nissanoffroad.net Question is, do you folks think I need to obtain permission before I tackle this endeavor? What do you guy's think. I think it would be pretty cool but I want to do it right and cover all the bases. Thanks!! NO NAME

RE: NiCad batteries discharge
ORIGINAL: JohnW Sorry Alex, I know there are sources that say you should discharge, at one time a long time ago there was a reason for this, but the reason has been gone for a decade or more, yet the concept still lives on and haunts us.
YUP, As a ham radio OP and Purchaser of many nMh packs they all say to run them down every few months. I also picked up 9.6-V 1,100 mil pack at RS $19.99 today for the tX and it also says that on the box. Most likely it's for keeping the chemistry make up from separating. I don't know. On many ham radio list some EE type say NiCads will reverse polarity when drained down to nothing but I had three trainers sitting for close to 2 years and they charged up fine. Just treat them good and don't abuse them. I found the Nicads can take more abuse and I think that is one reason TH uses them in the trainers Just my 2 cents worth. Vegas/

RE: RX battery Bigger for bigger plane
ORIGINAL: gaRCfield More milliamps means more flying time, more volts means more power to the servos. Depending on what you're flying and your flying style the 6 volts may be unnecessary weight. Going to 6 volts will give your servos much more power and reduce flight times a little, so you want a high capacity battery, like 2000milliamps or something. Tell us what plane and what kind of servos, and how many, so we can better assist you. I have a Venus II, which is a .90 size aerobatic plane, and my 4.8 volt battery is just fine; no need for more weight right now.
It's that new 6 foot wing span MK III from TH. I just asumed the control surfaces are bigger and the plane will be flying faster so i'll have more of a load on the servos pulling more amps. I was thinking 6 volts at 2,000 Mils would let me fly all day with no worries. I'm sure that 1.2 volts more will drop down below 6 volts in just a little bit of flight time then settle down. Vegas/

RX battery Bigger for bigger plane
I'm not to happy with the 4.8 volt 600 mils in the new bird that has much bigger control surfaces, Is it OK to go with 6 volts? I think most electrical components are rated 15% either way. I'll wait for some professional advice before I order several packs. Vegas/

RE: I need help BAD
ORIGINAL: gaRCfield Futaba does not have the software that controls only one receiver per memory bank (#1, #2, etc) so what that means is that if you've bound the Rx to the Tx and they are both on, you will be controlling the Rx no matter what model you've selected. So, you want to get all your settings for that plane squared away under one model bank and give it a name. There should be a model reset feature if you want to clear everything out and start again. Once you've got that stuff squared away, make sure you have the right servos plugged into the right channels. next, check the direction and reverse as necessary. Then go to your endpoints and adjust as necessary. This should give you a decent place to start from. Also, make sure your switches are all off or at a neutral position, or wherever they should be. Make sure your mixes are off too. Maybe some more info about the rudder would help: does it move one way when you push the stick on way, and move the same way when you push the stick the other way, or does it only move with one input and not move with opposite input?
Hollo gaRCfield I have all the above figured out. Now I have another problem. Everything was fine except the rudder was to much to the left with the setting at zero (OFF) I adjust that and now all the servos are chattering and all but the rudder are showing a mild flutter. The RX came wired so I assume the RX is OK since all semed good until I made the rudder adjustment For some reason i'm not receiving the post in mail even though I have it selected to be notified so i'll check the site in appx 15 minutes. Thanks for responding Vegas/

I got the TH big trainer with the 6EXAP transmitter I can work the controls but i'm not sure if I have the TX programmed for the receiver. The rudder only moves 1 way. The LCD is supposed to let me know the TX is programed for the model i'm flying. I assume this is # 1? Is there a way I can set this up and just turn it on like the other trainers? Thanks Vegas/

RE: Balancing a Taildragger
ORIGINAL: MinnFlyer I wouldn't go too much more than "Slightly" - This is a Decathlon, It's just as likely to do weird things if it's balanced wrong either way.
What is better? To balance with a full tank of fuel or an empty tank? I balance mine at the sides of the fuse and also at the wing tips then make sure I have a straight line between the 2 points. When I removed the nose wheel I moved the battery toward the front and I have 7* nose down. Vegas/

RE: NEW 4 YEAR OLD NEVER RUN OS 60 BAD????
ORIGINAL: bdtsr This is normal. There is a point at TDC when the piston is stopped but the crank swings across from one side of the stroke to the other. From compresion to power. Nothing to worry about.
Yes, I understand that and I have been a mechanic most of my life. However, even with the glow plug removed,i turn the prop slow then it just hits TDC then a turn it a fraction more and it feels like it's between TDC on both sides and it seems to take a good amount of pressure to move it past that point plus it makes a noise as if it were dry and had no oil. After a break in and 3 full flights it still does it. I decided to tear it down and I will let all of you know what I found. Thanks to all who responded. Vegas/

RE: NEW 4 YEAR OLD NEVER RUN OS 60 BAD????
ORIGINAL: pimmnz The condition is totally normal, the reason the piston doesn't want to come back down is because, having squeezed all the air out, the piston/cylinder seal isn't letting any air back above the piston. The partial vacuum created by try to pull the piston back down is trying to suck it back up. All the signs of a good initial set up. Run in carefully and never run it lean and it will look after you for a long time. Evan.
Thanks pimmnz That does make sense but for the piston to hold a vacuum all night long seem normal? I think not but it runs smooth. I ran it again with 5% nitro and ran it very rich I have a new not run yet EV 61 and I can just almost feel that Oh I forgot to say that It does the same with the glow plug removed so then the vacuum would not be an issue. It's a bugger and I can't figure out what is causing the notch where the prop seems to fall is 1 spot and almost seems locked as if I was forcing the piston against the glow plug but this happens when the piston starts coming down and no plug installed. But it runs well so why fix what isn't broken. Vegas/[8D]

Nothing to worry about. [/quote I know what you mean and I know what that rod reaches TDC,the crank is sort of in a fulcrum position but what I don't understand is when I move that prop just a tad, it seems locked. Since it already did pass TDC I assume it would be smooth from that point on. This happens when the piston starts going back down just a few thousands of an inch from TDC Well flipping the prop it feels normal. I ran a full tank and made adjustments as per instructions. It flew like a raped ape so tomorrow I'll be flying mine. I have no choice but to fly RTF plane due to a part paralyzed hand so these RTF planes allow me to do some mods and enjoy the hobby[8D]

RE: NEW 4 YEAR OLD NEVER RUN OS 60 BAD????
ORIGINAL: Dorsal Sounds normal to me - it's the area where the pushrod bushings are going from compression to tension and there's probably a ten-thousandth or two of slack in there. There has to be a little clearance or the crankshaft wouldn't turn. Put some fuel in the tank, hook up the glowplug and fire that baby up! Make sure to run it rich and NOT at full throttle to let it break in.
Were going out now. I'l run it but it's the 1st time I ever experienced anything like this. I pulled the muffler and I see this happens just when the piston wants to start going down and then it just seems to fall into a spot when the prop feels locked Well run it and i'll post the results here later Vegas.

NEW 4 YEAR OLD NEVER RUN OS 60 BAD????
My friend decided that after 4 years It was time to start flying his TH trainer MK II with a 60 OS engine on it. The engine was stuck tight so I used oil and took my time and rocked it loose. Now it seems to flip over easy with my finger and all feels normal. However when turning the prop slow,I feel the piston come up on the compression stroke, then it seems to fall into a notch right after TDC. So that leaves it in a condition where I need some extra finger pressure to turn the prop back either way. As I said above when flipping the prop in a normal manner it seems fine but I made no attempt to try to start it. Is this normal? Vegas/
