RE: Top Flite Cessna 310
you could probably run a 12x7, buy a few 2 blade props and experiment to find the one you like best as a general rule, if you go from a 2 blade to a 3 blade you must drop an inch in diameter, so if a 12x8 2-blade prop works for you try a 11x8 3-blade and see how you get on ;)

takes a true aeromodeller to look back on the day and laugh instead of sulking about it, 'corse if it was a real model aeroplane the hawk wouldnt have been able to carry it... ive enver had hawks bother me, but ive made a sport of p***ing off the pidgeons, kites and numerous other birds that wander onto our flying site (Sparrows make for great agility testing! :P)

RE: Any females fly?
ah, its only a little'en then :P does look nice though, i can see you've got potential to be a great builder, keep the covering tight and keep the wrinkles out of it and hopefully it will turn out OK, i suck at covering and thats the only reason i haven't finished any of my projects (still working out the finer details and putting off the dreaded job of covering... you can tell im english, lol!) keep up the good work, if you can get used to working with stringers and formers (and not putting your thumb through them like i do :P) you should be just about set for a bigger kit good job, TF96 :)

RE: Cat versus Heli......... The untold saga....
i almost had a red Kite the other day with my Bossanova, then my dad says "better not, hes a big b*gger... would do more damage to the airplane than to the bird" so decided against it. almost had a pidgeon with my trainer though, i was cathing up on the downwind leg but as soon as he turned into the wind he had the advantage, by that time my MDS .40 was reaching its 3 minute flight-time limit, so i had to land it

RE: Whats some good Four Star Mods?
dual servos are good, and also flaps (cut the aileron about 70\30 with the 30 part being flaps). one bay is all you need to clip off. you can also cut out some balsa wingtips to make it look a bit more appealing :)

RE: The WORST "FIRST" EVER !!!!!!!!!!
try epoxying a fibre-glass cloth around the centre of the wings and it should be pretty much solid, ;) and youd be surprised at how hard you can land some of these planes before they break, i managed to dead-stick my plane (came on approach too fast and overshot the strip) onto a rough, recently-ploughed field which just broke the wheels off, simple matter of epoxying them back on to the bottom of the fuselage. MonoKote is the brand name, the plastic sheet stuff is just known as "covering".

RE: Any females fly?
i suppose its because the majority of this sport is engineering oriented (tuning engines, rebuilding engines, setting up radio gear e.t.c) and the most females i know dont tend to find that interesting (with a few exceptions). TakingFlight96, Never had any experiance with the Spacewalker so i cant really comment on that, but the Guillows warhawk sounds nice (only Guillows kit i ever built was the Cessna 0-1E Bird dog which i found a bit too easy.) got any pictures to show us how its going? better get used to stringers and formers if you intend to build, take a look at the Mam'selle(s) in my profile (i actually cut the 3/16 Sq Stringers from a sheet of 3/16 x 4" balsa, more cost effective :P) after i'd finished the fuselage on the second one i was sick of the sight of former templates :P. but after a few weeks i had to scratch that annoying itch and start building a third

RE: Any females fly?
i see what you mean about finance, im only 15 myself so sometimes raising the funds for a project is very hard. that being said, it costs me about £30-£40 to fully build an airframe from plans including balsa, covering e.t.c (not sure how many $ that is, around $50-$60?). i prefer bigger kits for one main reason, tis ahrder to put your thumb through the pieces when you are getting them out! [&:] another thing i like with kitbuilding is the timescale, some days i will be in the workshop all day, sometimes i do an hour or two after school, sometimes i will leave it for a week and then get back to it. ive still got 2 Mam'selles and a trainer i need to finish :P

RE: Any females fly?
why wait?, now is the time to get building ;) Ive seen four stars used as cropduster, banner/glider tugs, aerial photography platforms, they really are great utility planes capable of doing pretty much anything you want them to (knife-edges can be a bit hairy though...) plus they arent as daunting to build as you would think if your into kit building (or want to be) i would suggest getting a real kit and not a Guillows, they just dont feel the same as a proper kit.

best bet would be second-hand off ebay or maybe sweet-talk your local LHS (get coverage in the local newspaper or on the 'net?) are you planning to build your own reciever?

RE: What does your LHS charge to sell one of your planes?
my LHS is a two-story converted car garage, very small shop owned by a local guy called Nev, the bottom of the shop is full of planes of varying shapes and sizes, all of which are customer models being advertised, if a person sees something the like and buy it, the store owner takes the money and passes it on to the model seller. he doesnt charge anything, but i always go in there for a prop and a bottle of CA and end up leaving with a forest of balsa and various tidbits which i dont really need. (plus he gives a 10% discount on the label price of everything), when buying a model i always give him a bit for his troubles. i remember the time i bought my Ripmax bossanova, (Airframe, futaba reciever, servos, irvine 53, all rtf for £160), but when i gave him £170 and told him to keep £10 for his troubles he wouldnt accept it, saying i'd bought enough already, in the end i bought him a bacon sandwich from the catering van around the corner and everyone was happy :P

RE: Any females fly?
ORIGINAL: Cool1_UK
ORIGINAL: TakingFlight96 Yeah, at my field, I'm the only girl out there. Sure people make comments, I push them off - I'm not about to let them get to me. I'm gonna focus on learning to fly, I'm very, very close to Soloing, So, I'm not gonna let anybody stop me. I've spent 9+ months on a sim at least an 1-2 hours a day, I've worked to hard to let one persons comment get me out of the hobby. I feel that women are slowly making their way to the top in aviation (RC and Full Scale). Someday I plan to do something in aviation, I'm young so I still got so many more career paths that I can choose, theirs literally 1,000+ jobs in the broad topic of aviation. I actually dont mind the smell of glow fuel, and that occasional fuel that sprays all over you, and all the grease and grass all over the plane - Thats what comes with the territory of RC, and IMO its all worth it in the end. TakingFlight96
Woohoo! My kinda girl <3
Behave, you! :P if only there were more young ladies like you, Takingflight96. keep that attitude and you will go far in life, i can see you have potential to be a gret pilot. best of luck for your solo as for building, why wait for your 3rd or 4th plane?, i bought my second one (ripmax bossanova, WOO!) but now ive build a vintage trainer (and started building two more of the same plane for leccy conversions), s Cassutt Racer, and a few more projects on the side, its not as hard as you think ;) next time your in the LHS, it may be worth picking up a Four star kit or something similar to build whilst your training (the 4*s' are easy to build, i have a modified 4* .60 with an OS .91FX upfront, dual aileron servos, wingtips and modified vertical stabiliser that was a pleasure to build and very stable to fly). whilst Guillows kits are fine for cutting and sticking practice they dont give you the full satisfaction that comes with building your own powered model (although i find i usually end up putting my finger through the balsa when cutting it out!) RE: Do You Stand or Sit
i prefer to build either on a large flat floor, or on a coffee-table height desk. the cutting, sticking e.t.c i do standing up, also if ive been sitting down for a long time i find i get cramps and aches in my legs and lower back (im 15 and already i feel like an old man! :P)

RE: K&B .40
yep, no doubt an air leak. reaplce the fuel lines if possible (or check the old ones for damage) as even a pin prick can let air into the system after that, return to base settings and try again

RE: Fuel line problem
tke the remote needle valve off and put it in a bowl of water (keep fuel lines attached and blow through them), if there is a leak in the RNV it should bubble in the water, strip down the NVA (make note of the settings) and check all the seals and o-rings, you may want to try replacing the fuel tubes aswell, even a tiny pin prick can cause problems
