RE: should i get a sig somethin' extra?
Flyin wire on the tailyes. 2-56. Same Dubro gear to support the back of the floats as in the front. Hope this clears it up. John

RE: should i get a sig somethin' extra?
Yep-it's Dubro gear. I used the same thing in the rear. I put a 1/4 inch block inside the fuse to support the rear. Works great. John

RE: should i get a sig somethin' extra?
You'll love that Somethin' Extra. I've had three. Still have my third, with an old Saito 65. I fly it on wheels and floats. When I mounted floats on it, it came out a little nose heavy. So, I drilled holes in the front of the floats and put split shot in to balance it. Then dribbled epoxy in to hold the lead right in the front. Just love it on wheels or floats. That's my two cents. RE: Larger Revolver
From reading this whole thread, I knew the 125 Saito would be recomended. I'll see which one I use when I get started. That still might be a ways off due to a couple medical issues we have to take care of here. But thanks for the encouragement. John

Thanks for the reply. I do have one NIB. (all unpacked to air out) Just need the time and a kick in the buttoks to get started. Plus-I can't make up my mind on power. I have OS 91 FS, Saito 100 & Saito 125. I've read the whole thread from start to finish, so I know about all the weak spots to fix. I'll get started one of these days. John

I have a plane that has to 600 mah nicad batteries connected to a y harness. At what rate should I be charging them? I plug the charger into the charge jack on the switch. I would really like an expert opinion. Thanks in advance-John

RE: Four Star 60 dies on maiden day.
Here's my thought-listening to the video you can hear the engine get louder before the engine slows down. And the muffler was gone when you got there. I think the muffler came off dropping the fuel pressure, so the engine almost quit. Which slowed the plane down. 'Then the engine got a little more fuel and picked up again. This happened a couple times. Also you were in a turn. In the mean time you lost flying speed it stalled and went into a death dive. You gave it full up elevator to pull out of the death dive which increased the stall and in she went. Whadayathink ??? In the past I have been theredone that exact same thing. John

RE: Avistar on floats??
Ooops-I forgot to mention your engine question. You didn't say whether the OS 40 is bushing or bearing, but if I were you I'd go with the Evo .46 as long as it's just sitting around. OS,s are great, but a little more power with the Evo .46 you will like. Let's go float-John

RE: Avistar on floats??
The way I did mine was to put 2 pieces of 1/8 ply on the inside of the fuse. One under the tank and one just behind the wing saddle in the bottom of the fuse. Didn't have to cut into it at all. Then blind nuts and 8x32 nylon screws. Works great for me. I used 3 screws in the front and 2 in the back. Came in to the bank a little hot one time because of higher than normal cross wind. Didn't shut down in time, hit the bank pretty hard. Well, all that happened was the 5 screws broke off, the plane kept going a little farther. BUTAbsolutely no damage other than the screws. That's why I used nylon instead of metal. Any wayabout 5 minutes to get the broken ones out and new ones inand back on the water and in the air. Just love that little Avistar on floats. Hope this helps. Keep on floatin'-John

RE: Frequently asked questions about Seaplanes
HI thereI'm no expert, but what I do is put a bead of silicone around the complete wing saddle, then lay wax paper over it keeping all wrinkles out of the wax paper. Then mount the wing and let it set over night. Remove the wing, peel off the wax paper and you have a nice water tight seal. Works great for me. Hope this helps. Happy floating-John

RE: Avistar on floats??
Hi Jim-thanks for the reply. Yep-those are the floats I'm talking about. They really are tough. One flight there was a hellova cross wind to taxi back from. (on a lake there's never a cross wing for take off or landing) So I just taxi on step. Didn't quite shut down in time and hit the steep beach pretty hard. All that happened is the 5 6/32 nylon screws holding the float mounts to the fuse broke. 5 new screws and I'm back in the air. Another time doing a flat spin, the engine died. She flat spun all the way to the water. Absolutely no damage. More fuel and back in the air again. Yep-they are tough. When I first got them and saw they were only made of ABS plastic I wasn't too impressed. But after what I have put them through. I am impressed. I have several other brands of floats and like 'em all, but I haven't put them to any tests yet. And I'm trying very hard not to. Happy floating everyoneJohn

RE: Avistar on floats??
I've had an Avistar on floats for several years. Just love it. The floats are made in Italy, called Galleggianti Floats. But I can't remember who I got them from and can't find 'em any where. I would love to have another pair for a couple other planes, but no luck in finding any. Any way I'm still having a great time with the Avistar. Here she is -

Yepmechanicalthat's the way to go. And here's all ya need to see if there's any current draw up or down. Just plug it in between the receiver and retracts and cycle em. It will tell ya if there's a draw. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=HAN172 I had to buy one when I was doing my Hangar 9 P-40. Love it. It will also tell ya if you have a bind in any other control surfaceses. John

Wing Mfg B-25 kit
Has any one buit the Wing Mfg. B-25 kit? I have one that I'm trying to sell here, but no one seem to want the deal I'm offering, so I might have to build it myself. It looks like a great kit to build, but I think it's beyond my abillities. Is it very hard to sheet the foam core wing with balsa? Never done that before and I'm a little afraid of it. Wouldn't want to mess it up, ya know? Thanks in advance for any responce-John
