RE: 40 size flat out what do you think
ORIGINAL: Charlie P. Looks fun, though I don't know much about foam models.  If it was me I'd have rounded the leading edges and tapered the trailing ones.  I see a lot of drag adding up there.
This is a 3D aircraft, moving very slow most of the time. Drag is a non-issue at the speeds this plane will be flying.

RE: NTSB report on model/full scale collision
The facts are as follows: There was to be NO model flying over the runway, yet that's exactly where the model was. It was NOT the responsibility of the full-scale pilot to avoid a model. I think it's purely divine intervention that the wing of the full-scale didn't peel off and cause a crash that killed both occupants. If the "air boss" didn't know a model was in the air, where the hell was he? Getting his nails done? "The event coordinated maintained that he was not acting in the capacity of a spotter." It seems everyone involved on the rc side of things in this incident was expecting that "someone else" was looking out for them. As far as the full-scale, whatever he was doing, whether running down the runway with smoke on, climbing or not climbing, he had the "right-of-way" to do it.

RE: NTSB report on model/full scale collision
The NTSB report is exactly as I knew it would be. Most of us predicted long ago that the full-scale pilot would not be held liable in this instance. Why should he be? It's not up to a spotter, it's not up to the so-called "air boss", it's not up to your aunt Gertrude, it is up the the RC PILOT to see and avoid full-scale aircraft, not the other way around!
ORIGINAL: 91zulu How do one know the the right spark plug is in a gas engine. Now folks this don`t apply to the popular name brand engines with manufacture web sites with all engine info available, just the off brands and brands that are long gone. I think this bit of information I need to know, to be sure my engine is operating at optimum.
The insulator nose length is a determining factor in the heat range of a spark plug, the longer the insulator nose, the less heat is absorbed, and the further the heat must travel into the cylinder head. This means that the plug has a higher internal temperature, and is said to be a "Hot" plug. A hot spark plug maintains a higher internal operating temperature to burn off oil and carbon deposits, and has no relationship to spark quality or intensity. Conversely, a "Cold" spark plug has a shorter insulator nose and absorbs more combustion chamber heat. This heat travels a shorter distance, and allows the plug to operate at a lower internal temperature.
ORIGINAL: KidEpoxy Q: ''I wonder - do Top Fuel dragster folks have to belong to NHRA to run?'' A: No, there is no requirement by the fed government that you belong to NHRA (or other org) to run TopFuel Dragsters. Nor is there a fed requirement to run them only at track run by those orgs. The fed government dont say squat if you run a Top Fuel Dragster on your property or invited to run on a friends property, although there are a bunch of folks that dont have property appropriate to do so (just as a bunch of folks dont have property appropriate to shoot rifles on either). RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
No need to ground the plug to the engine, the braid on the outside of the plug wire is the ground. If you powered up the ignition without a spark plug hooked up, and turned the magnet past the pickup, it will do bad things to the ignition module. Hopefully, that's not the case. What are you using for batteries?

RE: List of Chinese Engines
The air molecules next to the intake port surface in an engine with a smooth intake port are not moving, due to fluid dynamics. This can result in the intake airflow slowing down, due to drag. This is the same situation you will find on the upper wing surface of an aircraft. A sailplane with turbulator spars has more lift than a smooth Monokote wing, again due to less fluid drag. A slightly rough surface actually increases the speed of the boundary layer airflow, lowering drag.

The only difference in diodes like the 1N4001 through 1N4007 is their reverse voltage rating. Since we are not subjecting these diodes to any reverse voltages, the 4001 is entirely adequate.

Does the NRA also protect those who are staunch gun banners? The right to keep and bear arms is a constitutional right. There is no constitutional right to build and fly model aircraft.

RE: List of Chinese Engines
I know all about flow testing. I know that one of my best friends does porting on Harley-Davidson motorcycle heads, and I do know that having the cleanest possible exhaust port is vital for getting the combustion gases out of the cylinder when the exhaust valve opens. I have witnessed flow bench testing on various H-D heads, the ones that flow the best have exhaust porting you could see yourself in. Intake's a different story, you want enough turbulence to keep the fuel in suspension with the airflow.
