RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
That video was taken with this camera in a slightly different rig configuration that is front mounted under the wheels to give a front view while flying. [image]http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/8703/oldrigii7.jpg[/image] The current camera I am using for my next set of flights. I am Just considering a better platform new one is 10 oz vs. my old 4 oz camera it got like 2000x better for 6oz more weight. But the major consideration here is the camera the plane breaking isn’t the fear when I fly Ap. [image]http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/1049/a0635988ty8.jpg[/image] [image]http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/6638/41p546e6nqlss400yr6.jpg[/image] I will probably pick up this kit and fly it a few times to see if I like it, I think I can make it work, The GWS was my first plane 2 years ago. I wrecked a few times but it didn’t take long to catch on. I just wont be attaching any $400+ camera’s to it till I am sure, in the end I guess its what I feel comfortable putting half a grand worth of camera on and flying up 1200ft. I probably wont have that much courage till I am as skill with it as the Slow Stick. I see my gws getting that camera for a while till I can fly the predator well enough. All of the comments where helpful

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Greetings, Flown a GWS Slow Stick Brush less setup for some time, Fly it very well able to land it in glider mode with no power on approach, and haven’t broken a prop or damaged the plane in over 25 flights, Can I fly this plane? And if so can it hold a better AP array than a slow stick. I am looking at this plane because it obviously is used for AP in real life dose it make a good AP as an RC? Will I get better stability and could it hold say a 7.0-12.0 Mega pixel camera around 4-15oz? Basically I am looking at the next step to take me to a gyrostabilized optics platform and worry the plane can't toe a heavy payload? Here is one of my AP video with a 7.0 Mega Pixel camera in toe, needless to say youtube and myspace dont offer enough space to play in its true 392Mb uncompress form. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=13390494

RE: slow stick, lipoly or nimh
What are the pros and cons to lip 2 or 3 cells vs. NiMH 7 or 8 cells? Nimh Pros 1. Strong will take crashes well 2. Not very dangerous on overcharge or short it will create a small fire 3. Dose not require a charger with balancer a basic charger fits the bill Nimh Cons 1. Weight 2x3 times heavier 2. Not nearly the amount of bang for the weight the bigger cells offer good power but they are still weak when compared to a lipo's power Lipo Pros 1. 200-300X the power for the weight ratio of nihm 2. Extremely precise charging with balancer for the same performance each time 3. Ultra light given more weight allowance for AP if necessary Lipo Cons 1. Rather expensive compared to nihm 2. Very dangerous and volatile (Never Charge unattended) Contents combust with air no heat or accelerant needed lipo batteries generally explode with 2000+ degree fireball. (Water will only spread a lipo or a lithium fire only a dry fire extinguisher will put one out) Had the water bags removed from my safe for these 3. If punchered in crash damage will usually exploded in fireball as contents catch fire with air. (So in really bad crash your taking the chance of toasting your model) 4. Batteries lose their charger after about a year regardless if you use them or not and when they become unstable and they inflate during a charge and explode this is mostly due to the lithium in the battery cell becoming unstable over time 5. You must use a lipo charger and balancer and You must pay close attention to the amps and cell count otherwise you could burn down your home very easily. Overall here is my advice, if you are new to rc planes or flying a new plane fly brushless with motors and esc rated for nihm, once you become confident with that plane then switch to a lipo and esc as this will avoid expensive and costly crash damage as the lipo batteries can not take damage like nihm. On slow sticks, clipped the wings on mine and run with a 2200mah 3c lipo and 400brushless 920kv and 30amp esc. lipo balancer and charger, I have a fire proof safe in my house for the batteries because of the danger, all though most if not every case of battery kabooms have been improper charging, shorts or crash damage they generally don’t exploded randomly but I am not risking my house. lipos are seriously dangerous and all caution is advised when using them, do a youtube search on lipo batteries to see what happens when charger goes wrong or a puncher occurs. I find the slow stick to be a tease more than anything else, I live in an area that has 10-15 mph winds nearly year round. The plane only flies well in 1-10mph winds so 90% of the time I cant fly kind of bums me out for a 300-dollar brushless kit

RE: GWS Slow Stick Survey
I figure out allot of the problem the battery I am using is pretty darn huge for this plane so it had to be mounted nearly under the motor to fly right, also I had to give it over half throttle to give it enough thrust to fly properly. I was flying it super slow at like 1/3 throttle flies slow but wind will kicked it around at that speed 3/4 throttle as the man above me said (allot more stable), got a few torque rolls in and few loops before crashing again, to lose the second servo...(online kit Very cheap servos) will be installing new servo and servo savers to help my wallet a bit as the servos that where put in the kit had the stickers torn off no telling what kind they are so replacement gears are impossible (learned my online ebay exp) local or reputable online hobby all the way. ebay= too many scams.

RE: GWS Slow Stick Survey
Number of cells: ________ 3 cell lipo What brand/mAh: ________ 2200mah parkflyers ESC model: ________ 20amp eflight Servos: ________ GWS micro Transmitter/Receiver: ________ Parkflyers Motor (stock or...): ________ Eflight 400 brushless 920kV Modifications: ________ Brushless lipo, better landing gear Comments on flight characteristics: This plane flies great in theory but as soon as a slight breezes comes by its all over the place and not a fun experience at all. I bought this plane 2 weeks ago I had flown foamies and other rc planes before but this planes has been the worst exp ever it has not any wind balance whatsoever, in my 10-15 flight attempts I have gotten maybe 1 ½ mins of flight time, for a massive 12-20 hours in repair time, it seems with this plane you are fixing it more than you are ever flying it, but if you live in the void of space with no wind this is the plane for you =), ether that or fly it in the thunder dome. Otherwise it’s just an out of control kite with motor getting blown around in 5-10mph winds. 12+ broken props. 2 broken fuselages 1 striped servo, yes cg the plane slightly nose heavy its just doesn’t fly like a pits bi that can cut though head winds this plane wants to fly straight up like helicopter in wind and when it realizes its not one its in the ground a few seconds latter from a stall. Over all if your new to rc don’t buy this buy a pitts foamy bi plane it flies 100x better.
