RE: What kills an ARF after a short production run?
One thing that hurt the Skylane 62...(if indeed sales were low) was the fact that it was not developed as modelers remembered it. In a retro model it should have been an exact copy of the orginal including a covering scheme that was on the kit box. The Skylane 62 ARF was not covered in the original scheme and had flaps! That is what kept me from buying it. On the other hand, their Senior Falcon ARF was like the orginal and I bought it immediatly! Sadly the Falcon is also "temporarly" unavailble.

RE: Robbe Republic SEABEE Seaplane
I'll be ordering my Seabee soon. The price seems high for a foam airframe but I justify it by the fact that the motor and ESC is included and its a rarely seen seaplane. Also for model seaplanes I think foam really is the material of choice. I hope they decide to offer more foam seaplanes in the future...PBY, Grumman Goose etc. [:D]

RE: Memories of Dad...
My Dad brought home a Skylane 62 kit from the hobby shop when I was 5. I still remember looking at the plans and parts with him like it was yesterday. I loved airplanes just like dad even then. The year was 1965! I supervised every stage of the construction. He built a Heathkit radio (transmitter, receiver and all the servos) for it. I then remember holding the tail when he started the Super Tigre and I got a good dose of caster oil and wind in my 5 year old face. It was a glorious time that I will never forget. I'd give anything to go out to the field one more time with dad. [:(]

RE: is there any difference between old GP Shoestring vs the new one
There are few more things. It's designed for easy electric conversion with a top hatch. It has plug-in wings...and it costs less than the old one.

RE: Great Planes Re-release of the Shoestring
I still have the original and love it so much I was considering converting it to electric. Now that this one is coming, I will buy this with my Super Saver discount for $170 shipped! I like the fact that it is fast as a bullet...its a racer! I plan on putting 6s batteries in it and showing the old glow guys what an electric plane is capable of. The fact that it is fiberglass and foam core means it will be tough as nails. No fear of it coming apart in my 9g pylon turns. [:D]

RE: Cermark Alley Cat Takeoff Problem
ORIGINAL: MetallicaJunkie
ORIGINAL: Yak18 Try shoving the throttle stick to the upper right corner of the transmitter. This will give you full throttle and full right rudder to counteract all the torque you just imposed on the airplane. When the plane starts heading to the right as speed builds up, move the stick back toward the center until it stops turning right. This sounds crazy

RE: If you want Great Planes to bring back the Shoestring read here;
Yea they are going for the electric crowd for sure. Since I am a member of that crowd, I will be buying one of these. With the beefy fiberglass and foam construction it should be absoluty ballistic on 6s. Wow! Now I don't have to convert my orginal String.

RE: Bring home a new plane and wife starts yelling.
My wife tells me to buy whatever I want...she says as long as she can still buy shoes and groceries its cool. When I bring up buying a fullsize Aeronca Champ now and again all she says is "as long as you're life insurance is up to date-go for it!" You know...as long as she can still buy shoes and groceries after I'm dead...its cool![:D]

I've taught many people to takeoff taildraggers using this method. After 2-3 attemps they're takeoff rolls are arrow straight. [;)]

Bending wire won't be a problem if you have a bench mounted vice and one of these http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXL786&P=0 As long as the parts are shown on the plans of course. I think Robart once made oleo landing gear struts for the Sterling Stearman.

RE: Top Flite P 47 ARF
Bax, can you shed some light on why the Mustang and Thunderbolt ARFs have a (hidden) battery hatch built in but it's not mentioned in the manual or marketing? Seems like Top Flite is missing an important market segment by not at least mentioning it. It's really bewildering to us. Think of all the electric components you could sell if the conversion parts are already picked out for it like Hanger 9 does. Just wondering.

RE: King Kobra Paint Job
Very nice Kobra! I had a Sig Kouger and always wanted a Kobra. I lost my dad last year. We flew together a lot. I mean a lot! I was 3 the first time I went to the field with him as his helper. He taught me to build and fly. We built and repaired maybe hundreds of airplanes on ajoining workbenches. We were one when it came to R/C. As much as we enjoyed this hobby together I still feel like it wasn't enough. Happy landings Dad and I'll be thinking of you this Fathers Day and wishing we could pass the Transmitter one more time.

RE: A330 Air France jet missing
My speculation is he inadvertantly flew into a thunder storm perhaps after losing his weather radar in the electrical system failure. Last year, we had two aircraft (MU-2 and C421) fly into thunderstorms and shed their wings. One had weather radar and the other did not.

RE: Who's getting the new aero-works P-51
Just my opinion but the Aeroworks P-51 should be in the $699-899 price range with the included retracts. Lets not forget this is just another Chinese ARF...pretty as it is. And really, the deviations from scale on the nose and horizontal stab are really unforgiveable at the near 2K price point. Just my opinion! Hanger 9s new P-51, though slightly smaller, is a much closer to scale model, includes oleo retracts as well and they did it for $319!

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
This Mustang is sweet and I'm already setting aside some cash for it. One thing that really caught my eye though was the hideous instrument panel! OMG what were they thinking?! The TF P-47 ARF cockpit is really nice but the retracts are music wire! I guess there's give and take on all of these planes.
