RE: Which New Scale Rig?
Exactly what real-life rig is the Dingo a 1:10 scale version of? My lowly opinion of the Dingo body is that it is a tragic mistake from Axial. I think they must have been trying to save money by releasing the Dingo instead of buying the rights to use a particular Toyota, Chevy, Ford or others. There are other areas of the rig that Axial has made sub-standard to bring the price down as well. Plastic plastic and more plastic parts that should not be plastic(bumpers, roll-cage, links...etc.) On the other side of this rant about the body and TR is that i really like the way SCX10's perform and they are very versatile. IMO, get the SCX10 and forget the TR. The TR is perfect for a first timer for sure but not for someone that is going to rebuild and mod right away. Don't let the guys on RCC sway you into buying one, because theirs look so good modded. You will spend WAY more than you ever thought you could to make it look and perform the way you want it. This is all an opinion of course. I tend to think out-loud as well so you can take it like a grain of salt...I just know how killer your builds are and you would most likely be scrapping most of the stuff that comes on the TR anyway....No, then buy it...Yes, forget it! RE: Custom Crawler Ideas
You mean like Traxxas Summit style? There is a huge debate thread here on weather or not you can call the pan-type chassis rigs with independent suspension a crawler or not. I think that you can use whatever the heck you want and create something cool and unique. However, if you are planning on competing you might want to go to a more crawler specific set-up. Only for fun? Go for it! post your results. Z

RE: Losi Shock on AX10 - Bottom Link/Eyelet
Whats the point of buying new shocks that have to be modified before use? They already cost over $50. I can totally understand doing this if you have had them for a while and want to make them better or if you got them used at a cheap price..Might as well buy shocks that work? These shocks are so-last-year! LOL

RE: Losi Shock on AX10 - Bottom Link/Eyelet
I almost bought them but I wanted something a little bit shorter for my scaler(like 90mm). I have since talked to a few people about what to do about the non-existent ball on one side of the shocks. The best answer I got was to go out and buy some cone-washers(most hardware stores should have an assortment) and use those as a pivot point for the shock. Can't answer your first question so good luck on that. Note: Many of the people that used to use the Losi 4" crawler shocks have moved on to better shocks. They were used because they were the best at one time. Now, I hear that the shizzle for scale rigs are Proline's new shocks. The guy that competes at my LHS uses the Traxxas Big Bore shocks now on his Comp Crawlers instead of Losi. RC4wd has some great shocks as well but complaints on those are that they are always way too stiff. They are starting to make aftermarket soft springs for most of their shocks now, but not for all yet.....To each his own, I personally think it's a mis-step on Losi's behalf to keep producing a shock with no ball on one end....They need to address that already. They might get their sales back up on those if they did????? Z

RE: 4 wheel steer axial 10
I have had this video on my computer for a long time so I finally posted it. [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnBU9DAMmCU]All-time and independent 4WS on Dx6i[/link]It's just a short video to show my all-time 4ws and independent 4ws working on a 6 channel DX6i. You can't use it if you are going to compete but once you get the hang of it, it is a huge advantage. I actually do not like having the all time 4ws on, and rarely use it in that configuration. IMHO, you need to be able to turn it off. Many times i found myself stuck and backing out of an obstacle only to switch to 2ws and make it easy. Being able to drive the rear wheels independently is the way to go. You need a stick radio to accomplish the best way to utilize 4WS. Re-training your brain to spot both wheels at the same time, then adding hand coordination for throttle and steering x2 takes time... Just something to think about before you dive into 4WS....If you go that route I recommend going the full 9 yards with the stick radio! Z

RE: 51
ORIGINAL: kenny_dilger I am sure its somewhere in this thread... But what is everyones AUW of the 51'' cap with pink foam. I am really more interested in the the airframe weight. Or at least the airframe without the motor and battery... I am also trying to think of a good way to make the wing removable (one piece or two...) as I am thinking of scaling it up to about 60 to 70'' wing span. Any thoughts?
Atta boy! A 70" version would be cool! I don't have a weight for just the airframe, but the original weight of the Jays plane was 2 pounds 6oz. Once again I got too happy with my plane and well, broke it. I think a better term for what i did to it would be that I shattered it! Last battery, last trick, last everything. When will we ever learn to fly one less battery than we brought to the field? I ALWAYS crash on the last battery...No worries though, because.... RC4WD has a transmission that is a 3 speed as well as a 2 speed for much cheaper. [link=http://www.rc4wdstore.com/2/index.php?cPath=25]RC4WD tranny's[/link] ..You can also buy a 3 speed Tamiya (hilux) tranny. I have nothing about using a summit tranny. Wanted to post a few pictures of the newest Pinkie that i am building. Have not seen anyone building one of these out of the Foamular, should be interesting. Who knows, we might even start a revolution! If anyone here knows if the Kline-Fogleman airfoil(3rd picture for reference) would work better if tapered flush to the carbon fiber arrow, please interject. I would rather it had a taper, but if it would work best left as-is(90 degree angle), i would leave it. I was going to post this in the Funder and Lightning thread as well for thoughts.... All comments welcome, except "Pink Jokes"...lol j/k Thanks for looking Z carbon fiber arrows were used for spar and rear of fuse(if that's what you can call it).

Hey guys.... I sent Pknapp the original drawing that Jay sent to me. It has all the dimensions and such, but If there are any other plans, please send them along to him. Since i am here~ My plane has never flown better! I still fly the Toxic Pinkie every chance I get. I never have a day of flying that people don't walk up to me wondering how a plane that big flies so slow and low and then so freaking fast...i wish more people would build one of these. Might be the size that scares them away?? Don't let it scare you peeps. It flies like it was little but with a big a$$ heart! My Power 10 size motor takes this thing straight up going at least 30MPH...seriously! On another note~ I am almost finished with my next Pink plane. I am building the Funder and Lightning. I will post a pic when I can steal the camera from the wifey! Its gonna be cool!! peace Z

RE: Using BB's for Tire Foams?!
I think you are supposed to cut the star pattern on the outside...lol Never seen it done like that before. If you leave them like that, they will just float around on the inner hub of the wheel. There is a sticky on here on how to cut star shaped foams the correct way. Weight in your rig is mostly trial and error with the vehicle. I have seen comp rig dudes put 6-8 ounces in each front wheel and 5 ounces to 0 ounces of weight in the rear. Good luck

RE: Cralwer King vs Creeper?
Not a long video, but [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdphwioyCks]here is a link[/link] to a stretched Wheelie King that has the same wheel base and frame as the King Crawler. I thought it wheeled pretty good for the $119 price I paid(pre stretch). Only thing about the HPI Crawlers that sucks is the top-heaviness. They didn't change the transmission for the King Crawler, so it will be the same. The transmission stands straight up with the motor on the top, making it a bad design for Crawling. If you are good at making your own mounts and engineering new parts, you can make a new motor mount that is below the Spur gear. i have seen it on DNA'a Comp rig that uses the WK tranny. Puller motors are the best to use, since they are thinner overall. There is a reason that the Creepers are lower in price every time you see them($124.99 now at CKRC). They had some parts that were failing on non-stressed driving and the parts replacement was only over the net. Not one LHS carries the Venom or parts for it. They all carry the WK. Have you not seen the Axial SCX10 TR? That should be on this list too. It is just under $300 and you get everything including 6 lights pre- installed, a working full size spare tire and wheel, roll bar and more...Check it out. RE: Official Venom Creeper Rock Crawler thread..
I have the Axial and it's not much different. I pop the driveshaft all the time. Mine seems to come apart at the yolk connection from the rear part of the tranny. I carry a pack of extra shafts(called propacks from Traxxas) to replace it after it pops off a few times. It pops off easier and easier every time I fix it. They do sell aluminum collars that slide over the connection, but for the Axial. Not sure if they have a fix for Creeper or if maybe you can adapt the Axial lines/collars to fit? Other options are the MIP shafts, Punisher Shafts or try the thread on rcc that shows plastic cement being used and zip ties...LOl.. Mac Gyver has nothing on us! Good luck. Z

RE: New Homemade Chassis
ORIGINAL: Alpha Male All three of those chassis look great! [X(] Hmmmm......I wonder if I could make a custom chassis of my own design. Where can I find Delrin sheets like those?? I guess it is different than the white plasti-card at the local hobby shop, right? Adale4130, where are you going to mount your battery?
I got mine at Tap Plastics here in CA. I don't know if they have a store near you but you can check the website. [link=http://tapplastics.com/]Tap Plastics[/link] ...It's kinda expensive so you might want to create a mock-up of what you want with something rigid that you have around the house. My sheet of Delrin that measured 18x10x1/4" was almost $40....You can also go to Target/Wal-Mart and buy plastic cutting boards for super cheap(compared to Delrin). I have actually seen crawlers made from those cutting boards on a different forum. Z

RE: K & A Models Tigercat
Is it because you think the Axi's are too expensive or that you think they will be too much power? I like to fly with at least 150 watts per pound. I have never flown a twin engine aircraft but you should look for at least an equivalent motor set-up as the Axi's. My current setup has me at about 185 watts per pound and it rips like a bat out of hell. For simple scale flight and no 3D, I saw a chart that said 75 watts per pound would be sufficient to take off from the ground and fly, no frills. Maybe look for somewhere between 75 and 150 per pound... Sorry if this does not help...I am going only by what I like... Peace Z

RE: 51
Crushed my plane again 2 days ago when I lost a control rod. Plane broke in 3 separate pieces!!! Glued her back together and strengthened the control points. Flies like a dream still. Even though this foam is not very sturdy in crashes, it sure is easy to fix! I am now flying a 48" Toxic Pinkie(cut the tips of the wings off) but she still wont fit in the trunk yet....I'll have to crash and remove a bit more every time until it fits! lol...My power to weight ratio keep getting higher as well. This thing is almost too fast for it's own good... Keep the planes coming. Like to see a few more of these fab-planes built.. Peace Z

RE: 51
Jay~I think it looks pretty good! I decided against painting the entire plane to save weight as well. While loading a battery in Toxie for another run the other day, some random exercising lady commented on my choice of Pink....Lol, After I told her it was the color of the foam insulation, she understood.....Does this mean that every person that doesn't come and talk to me about my pink plane thinks I am a fairy? Ah well....Pink wont make you less of a man unless you have a plate of quiche next to you....So I am good! Bradya~ Parts look good. I am crossing my fingers that your plane will not fall out of the sky under zero power. It will probably fly fine but it will be more like a pylon racer/sport plane. Hope everything goes together for you nice and easy so we can get a report..... Z

Cool!!! I cut a delrin scale chassis on a CNC machine at school and have been punishing it for the summer! Although mine needed some modifications after the initial cut, it works fine. I love how easy it is to drill new holes and re-shape it when and wherever I need it.... Here's a few pics of mine....I have since cut a little over an inch from the bottom of the frames to better match the FJ40 body...

Nice Jay! Looks like way too much work for me(I am lazy!) to cut all those puzzle pieces! Mine seems to be holding fine without the extra steps. I crashed it pretty hard too and had to fix my motor mount and a bent prop adapter. The wings needed some glue too!!! I don't even have any qualms about it not flying after all the glue and repairs, it flew so well before. Thanks for all the effort you put into giving us this/these plane. I appreciate it! Peace, Z
ORIGINAL: wickedstick Thanks for the help!! Does anyone have experience with <a href=''http://www.maxamps.com/EOS0606i-AC-DC.htm''>This Charger?  I want one that doesn't require a power supply (I know this isnt the only one).   I looked at the recomended  Thunderpower 610C and everyone said it was hard to figure out (not good for someone new to electrics) so ive been looking at others and i like this one because it seems to give me plenty of options for what to charge/discharge, balance and even the input has 2 options.  also the reviews on maxamps.com seem great.
Never used it but the specs are nice! 6A is not too bad, I am sure that is over-kill for most users! Hyperion products are usually top-notch. I have a few motors from them that I love but nothing else. Sorry I can't be of much help on this one....You are correct on the 610c being kinda hard to use. If you are only doing lipo's though, Its fairly easy. Just set the charger to Lipo, set the amps for the battery you want to charge (ex:2200mah=2.2 amps)and push the red button till it double beeps...You can keep a bunch of different amp ratings in memory so you don't have to set it for different batteries. No matter which one you buy, the built in balance feature is great to have. Both the 610 and Hyperion have that(as many do now). Z

RE: Need Help!! Axial SCX 10 or Trail Finder??
The ESC is out of stock, but the $24.00 motor is not!! [;)] My honest opinion on this is that Castle makes the best ESC's you can buy( I installed Castle in my plane now too because I am tries of sucky ESC's). The Sidewinder is the cheapest (but not cheaply made) Castle for Crawlers, but if you have the cash and want the extra bells and whistles, go for the Mamba..You will not be disappointed! I ran the Sidewinder with a cheap Integy 55t motor at first (It will do brushed or brushless) and my rig had tons of power and flawless transitions from braking, reverse and forward. Brushless motors are more efficient and can provide lots of power but they do not run as smooth through all the transitions...Seems there is a trade-off for everything....I have yet to run a battery long enough to see if it can beat my Brushed at 1 hour and 45 Minutes....Here's a video of the Sidewinder and Integy Brushed motor in my first Crawler, the stretched WK...Check out the unlimited wheel power! Haha I am using 2200mah 30C 3S....[link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdphwioyCks]Short WK vid[/link] Now, get that thing built!! haha Z
