RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft
I have contacted Horizon Hobby twice about the rear struts that broke on me and this being a warrany issue and I have not recieved a response. First time I have had any dealings with Horizon and it looks like their support for their product is not there. I'll give them another week to respond to the emails and then I'll call. Looking foward to going out again tomorrow and flying the Taylorcraft again [:D]

61ahs, I think you need to strike a deal with the deer hunters. You can fly but you have to attach a camera to your Taylorcraft and spot the dear for them. You could contact them via cell phone and give them the Longitude and latitude [:)].

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft
Looks like this coming Saturday is going to be another nice one. I can't believer it, three Saturdays in a row with the temp in the high 50"s to high 60's and wind 10mph or less. My buddy that knows how to use a camera said he has to work but could come out later so if I'm still there When he shows up I'll get a better video of my Taylorcraft in action. Mid November, can't be many good days left.
ORIGINAL: Michael Larsen Zippi, could you please tell me the weight of the Taylercraft with the Dle30 engine, I would be happy if the weight is flight ready with fuel. Thanks Michael
Michael, I have no way of weighing my plane but I would say it's at the higher end of the 14–15.5 lb range given on the box. It feels heavy but flys and lands light.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft
fabmaster911, NIce mod on the rear upper struts. Just another fine example of how this can be made stronger. Guys, I've also been looking at the Aeroworks Cessna 195. A buddy from our local club was at the Toledo show and called me about this plane and said it was very nice. This one is getting pretty close to $1000.00 just to get it to my door. I'm curious as to why there are no markings on this class of plane?

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft
apalsson, I really think the Taylorcraft would be worth the wait but, I know how it is. Been there and done that myself. After putting about 10 full flights on mine I couldn't imagine having an engine with less power than the DLE 30cc I'm using. If the weather here holds out for one more weekend I'll try and get another video of how well the Taylorcraft will hover with the DLE 30cc.

RE: Robart hinge point question
ORIGINAL: carlgrover I like Zippi's method but what I do is cut all the hinges off and re-hinge the entire control surface, just to be sure.
carlgrover, Just the hinge that has play in it is the only one you'll need to do as I described about. That is the reason for doing this so you don't have to remove the control surface to replace the hinges.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft
Here is what I did to solve the problem of the upper rear struts breaking. The eyelet that is soldiered on the end of the round rod that bolts to the vertical fin has a weak spot. I removed the eyelet and cleaned the old soldier off the rod. I then cut off about 3/16" from the end of the rod with my dremel tool. Then I soldiered the metal clevis that I got with the stabilezer strut parts bag that I bought onto the round rod. Now both ends have the nice heavy duty metal clevis and one end is adjustable. There is a small flat brass piece that has a hole in each end that is used to mount the strut to the stab. I used the ones out of the stab parts bag I bought and those are now mounted to the top of the vertical fin with one bolt. Both of the metal clevises attach to the brass pieces. It worked out very well and should last a long time. The mod took me about 30 min to complete both sides.

I got the chance to fly my Taylorcraft again today and the other upper rear strut broke. The baffles worked out fine and the gear cuffs stayed in place this time. I got someone to use my camera to shoot a video and it's ok but not the best. RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft
jonesjj3, If your going to brace the firewall then you should be fine. You'll love this plane. It's very aerobatic and slows down to a crawl on landing. Mine has a lot of minor issues such as the tailwheel springs breaking, upper stabilizer stuts breaking, and the white paint is coming off everywhere. The landing gear cuffs slid down due to the cuffs being glued to the paint on the gear and once the paint let loose the cuffs went with it. The wheel pants set very low and it wont take much for the grass to tear up a set of wheel pants. I have a set of 3 1/2' tire that I'm going to put on over the winter if I don't have to cut out to much of the pants. If that is the case I may look at some 3 1/4" tire.

jonesjj3,, The firewall is only 1/4" thick as it is and I'd hate to cut any more holes in it if I didn't have to. I'm taking my Taylorcraft back out tomorrow and see if I can get someone there to use my camera a shoot a video. The weather is suppost to be really nice tomorrow.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft
ORIGINAL: jonesjj3 Can someone tell me the distance from the fire wall to the end of the cowl ? I have an Aeroviate 26CC ( RCGF ) and it has a rear carb on it, it is on my Rascal 110 now but was thinking of pulling it off and put on the T-Craft. I try to find that distance in the Online Manual but could not find it so if any one knows that would be a big help I am trying to find out before I buy the kit, if I know I cant use it I may get better deal buying and eng ( G20 )with the kit rather than just the kit. Thanks
jonesjj3, I'm not at home so I can't read my notes but if memory serves me well I think I had my DLE 30 prop hub extended a little to make it 5 11/16". With this dimension there will be a 1/16" gap between the cowl and the spinner backplate.

RE: NEW DLE30!
It's good to see that Jody, T.O.M , and the factory have gotten involved in this issue since the problem is growing with new buyers. Can we assume that what ever the fix may be and if it involves a new part that all DLE 30 owners would be getting this? A couple guys in the club were asking about the DLE 30 and if these engines were being sold now with some sort of disclaimer that there is a known issue? My engine should be on its way back from Ralph and I guess that I'm still going to have the problem with the idle and the dyeing from what I'm reading. All I can do is hope for the best and expect the worse.

RE: Robart hinge point question
dmparri, I have drilled a hole in a slight downward direction until you make contact with the hinge. Clean the wood out of the hole with an Xacto hook blade. Now your ready to apply the epoxy in the hole. Fill the hole with your favorite wood filler and recover. You could also drill a very small hole and use a needle and surenge and shoot CA in the hole around the hinge.

*Charging Issues*
I use the EMS Heavy-Duty Switch Harness with DSC/Charge Jack and have used them for years. After completing a new project I charged both the on board 1800 pack and the ignition pack. The following day I decided to set all the throws on the plane only to find out that the onboard pack was dead. My first thought was I left the switch in the on position. I charged the pack for 14 hours with a wall wart and got all my throws set. The following day I was going to test run my engine and the pack was dead again. At this point I thought there was a bad cell so I bought a new 1800 pack. The same thing happened so the only thing left is the charge switch. I charged the pack up and this time disconnected it from the system and the next morning the battery was still up. This is the first EMS charge switch that I have ever got that was bad. I don't know what would have been drawing the battery down. This is why it's always important to check your batteries between flights.

RE: NEW DLE30!
Sounds like Jody has his engine running good with a low idle. The engine still has an issue with dieing if bumped, shaken, or to quick of a throttle advance from a low idle. Looks like touch and go'es are out of the question. Ralph should get my engine today and when I get it back if there is still any dieing issues I'm going to ask for my money back. I think I've spent enough time tinkering and tring to get it worked out but I need something that is reliable so I can fly. Another G26 maybe. I really hope Ralph gets it fixed because it is a very light weight power house of an engine but all that power does no good if it wont stay running.
