Hi Again is been awhile. Question for the gurus.. When I setup the flaps do I have to mix in some elevator? I hear people do this to keep it from balloning.. Thanks Bill

RE: Aero Works P-51?
Hey Zeeb, been there done that. I don't know about the ARF version back on my ARC version I took off the pins from the hinges, remove the doors and hone the holes with a bit bigger drill bit. Re-install the pins and voila.. Bill

RE: Aero Works P-51?
I had a similar problem with the scoop and the flaps. see post #883 and #885. I trimmed the flap a bit and I had to fill under the scoop so it will line up with the rest of the fuse. Mine was an ARC version. Cheers

RE: Aero Works P-51?
I thought those exhausts were tested for performance. If they starve the engine of rpm's don't you think that Kelvin would of said something. I got mine for the DLE55. The engine is not mounted on the fuse yet should I be worried? Cheers

RE: Aeroworks P-51D ARC built
The travel is only 2 3/4" and is a screw type. The thing I like about those actuators is that when they reach the end of the travel and find some resistance they stop. Others you need a sequenser to do that. My all means feel free to post here if there's a way to share tips, tricks and how too's it will be great. Like I said before the 51 is on ice right now as I am working on multirotor systems. see here: http://www.wimac.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=3757 Today I'm going to test fly my coaxial rotor system and see how she behaves. Have a good day. Bill

RE: Aeroworks P-51D ARC built
No Leroy the kit didn't come with an air cylinder slide. But I have my self an actuator from Lado electric and it has a 70mmshaft (see picture) I think I might be able to make some kind of a setup and make it work. The graphics I got from Callie Graphics. I've been dealing with her for a few years now. Excellent job and to scale also prices are awesome. Keep posting those photos doing a great job. Bill

RE: Aeroworks P-51D ARC built
Maybe so Leroy, but don't forget the two coats of epoxy I sanded them down so most of it came off. Are you going to use two blade prop or four? I was going to do the compartment for the electronics in front also but then I would have to add weight in the tail to balance. Nice looking bird. Can you post details of how you are going to do the sliding canopy? Thanks Bill

RE: Aeroworks P-51D ARC built
Thanks Leroy for your comments. I use Xoar 22x10 for now. I will be using a 4 blade prop to fly, 20" with a variable pitch. I read your thread very interesting in deed. I use a syringe needle and cut the tip off, for bigger rivets I use the tip of a soldering iron. My wings were covered with fiberglass clothe and two coats of epoxy, then primed and sand, sand, sand, and sand some more. The covering is from Flite-Metal, thin aluminum with adhesive backing. Right now the project is on hold for a while as I am doing other projects like UAV's multirotors. It gets boring after awhile so I need a change. When I get back on her I will post some more info. Cheers

RE: Aero Works P-51?
Thanks Jimmy. I am really getting discouraged. I started this project back in June, and everyhting went wrong. I got the ARC kit, parts were missing and AW send them to me. Now I need a cowl and no stock, a wing bag, no stock they don't know when they will be in stock again. Just have to wait I guess. My gear is back to D&L for repair ( my fault) waiting for decals, exhaust is coming and so is winter. Have to wait till spring to test it out. I mounted the scoop yersteday, I used some bondo to fill the gap and it seems to work, as long as it wont come off in flight. here's a photo. Cheers

RE: Aero Works P-51?
Hi, I am trying to put my 51 together for allingment. It seems that the radiator scoop don't fit right. I got the ARC version. The wings are fitted in the fuse and bolted down. The scoop wont align properly. When I position the scoop flat on the wing the back end lifts up, when I line up the back end the front lifts up. Does anyone had that problem? Thanks see pics. Bill
ORIGINAL: n8622t
ORIGINAL: Zorba1 Neet, is it the same size as the D ? It looks like it has a 4 blade prop, does it come with it? Cheers
Hey Zorba, I heard that it even has a sliding canopy!!!!! I love it[:D] It will be sweet[;)]
I agree with you, but if I already have the "D" why spend another K or 2 for the "B". Unless AW plans on coming out
ORIGINAL: n8622t
ORIGINAL: Zeeb
ORIGINAL: bemeson That's because it's new and not on the site. It was unveiled at Warbird Over the Rockies, two weeks ago.
Did they do anything about the landing gear? It'd be nice if they offered the model without retracts, or AT LEAST put in some genuine Robarts instead of those d*mn cheapy Chinese Robart copies... :(
Zeeb, you can buy the airframe only, covered, and ready to install gear, radio, etc.[:D] Jimmy
From what I've read the airframe only is for the "D" model. Is the "B" model have three options also?

RE: Aero Works P-51?
Hi Guys is been quite around here latelly. I have a question. I am setting up the electronics on my 51. When I setup the flaps do I apply any elevator input? I know on my Cessna 310 I had to add a bit of elevator or else she would baloon up. I am using the Aurora 9 channel. Thanks in advance Bill

Thanks for leting us know about your issue with the doors. I am changing mine to servos to operate the hatch doors, no air in the system at all. I had my gear converted to electric by D&L. I will post the details of the conversion of the doors in a couple of days. Cheers

RE: Aeroworks P-51D ARC built
Well decided to take a brake from doing the rivets. Is a PITA but it has to get done since I started it. Oh-oh These rivets are done one by one with a hyperdermic needle. Did some painting of the cowl and the spinner. More to come. My gear is shipped and so is the prop. The exhaust will take 4 weeks been a custom job Cheers
