RE: Deployed flaps plane stalled and crashed
No computer radio here, had flaps control on ch.7 slide trim right below throttle stick. I collected up the pieces and walking back noticed people watching me, I walked past them and said, "I didn't really like that plane anyhow"

Deployed flaps plane stalled and crashed
Yesterday I totaled my 60 powered plane. I never used flaps before and approached for a landing at about 1/4 throttle, I deployed the flaps and plane seemed intantly nosed up and stall, I hit the throttle and tried to abort but she just kinda fell straight out of the sky I had no control it just quit flying and rocked back and forth a couple times before it planted nose first. I need a quite a bit more flying experience before ever trying that again, not sure i want to rebuid this one or any other plane with flaps!

RE: Servo question
Ok well thats settled now you have to think about life batteries have unique charging characteristics. Don't ask me for specifics as my 9 servos run off a 6v nmhd battery charged with a wall wart.

RE: Stuck on elevator pushrods
Well, slumps over cruising right along and here's what I plan to do. I'm going to build up around the blue sheath with balsa and sand to contour to have something for the covering to adhere to then maybe add a nice shroud over it to finish off with, the carbon rods will criss cross within the fuse and servos will mount near the CG.

Stuck on elevator pushrods
Need help, kinda in a slump with my 72" weeks special. I'm at a standstill on mounting my elevator servos, I have two carbon fiber rods with wire that came with kit, there is no instruction or photos whatsover nor is anything shown on blueprints on servo mounting except for the wing which does show the servo locations. I come out of the fuse side with the 6" or so wire off the carbon fiber rod and thats where I'm stuck, I don't know why just can't seem to get a definate plan together, I even thought about mounting the servos right directly in the fuse side in front of the elevator halves but would rather have them inside so the carbon rods are more than likely my choice. So when done properly all you see comming out the side of the fuse is a length of piano wire attached to the control horn right, problem is the opening will land in a hollow space behind the covering so may have to glue a balsawood block there to hold the covering at that site where the wire comes out. Sorry I'm just in a slump on this right now, but heres a photo for your enterainment anyhow.

RE: Air hole in cowling (pics)
Been trimming away a little at a time and notice alot less rigid now, not sure how much more i can take without adding some stiffeners of some sort, I'm hoping this is will do, maybe I'll do a couple 1/2 inch wide slits somewhere just to get that air ratio up a little more, it is a 4 stroke glow engine.

How much of this cowling do I neeed to take out for adequate cooling airflow? I have an area penciled in if it shows up. Ever seen louvers cut in the sides?

RE: Covering a large plane question
Thanks dgrant thats was some good inspirational advise. Your exactly right there are open bays on the fuselage sides that I didn't give much thought to. I thought about copying the Kermit Weeks full scale special but wanted something more my own design.

Covering a large plane question
I was just browsing through all those beautiful monokte jobs in the gallery and was wondering, do you cover the entire plane ina base color like white and then add the additional colors, and is the addd weight of double thick covering enough to be concerned about? I have 6 rolls of covering to do my weeks 1/3 scale biplane. 2 rolls of white 2rolls of yellow 2rolls of green I really don't have a plan yet but this is what I have to work with, hope it's enough.

RE: Servo advise for my 1/3 weeks special
Keep in mind this weeks special is a vintage kit from 1984! The recomendations are: "We recommend one servo and one pushrod for each elevator with 4-40 size quick linkks (2-56 quick links tend to break from vibration from the larger airpalne engines). Two golden rods are used on the rudder with a pull-pull hook up. Control surface movements are something each modeler has to adjust for themselves. We use to start: Ailrons, 3/8 up and down: elevators. 1" up and down, and rudder, at least 1-1/2" and more as needed. There's no mention of servo details, the top wing ailerons are slaved to bottom wing Ailerons (linked with pushrods and 4-40 links) so only two servos for ailerons, 2 for elevator, one for rudder and 1 for throttle. Tried to show a pic of that wing aileron pushrod

RE: Servo advise for my 1/3 weeks special
Thanks for the follow up, those are 99oz of torque. The ones I have are probably too weak at only 72oz, I'll just have to take her easy and see.

RE: Servo advise for my 1/3 weeks special
I already bought some new servos for the plane as shown in previous post. I just wanted to mention that back in the day before the internet and digital cameras, when I built and flew my first 1/4 scale plane (now refered to in % whicjh i don't get) it was a weeks solution kit not yet available to general public. I flew the solution with standard s148 servos that came with the radio and had no problem, I asked for advise because todays electronic equipment has made leaps and bounds sinse the 80's but as I see some things are still exactly the same, there are way too many choices nowadays and it makes it tough to decide exactly what is required, so I went ahead and bought some digital high torque metal gear servos, digital because I think a new radio is in my future.

RE: Half Scale Radio Control Christian Eagle Comes a Cropper
If you edit out the backround noise so we could hear the airplane it would be much better, I used the mute option myseft, rather hear the silence than elevator music.

RE: Servo advise for my 1/3 weeks special
Just spent 180 bones for 4 of these Futaba S3050 Digital Standard High Torque BB MG Servo My radio is a futaba Conquest FP-T5nlp FM PCM and top shelf for the time. I think it should do just fine. Flight pack is 4.8v 4000 ma not 1200 as stated earlier, I think it's plenty. Hope to get by with s148 servos on rudder. I am going to buy a new radio 5-or 6 channel 2.4, I'll keep an eye out for maybe something used.

RE: Servo advise for my 1/3 weeks special
OK second point. You stated 6 servos but according to my count it would be 8. Maybe you are one step ahead of me on this. To lower servo count you can run aileron servos on the bottom wing and then run a pushrod from the lower aileron to the top. Maybe you have already went that route. You could set up the elevator on a pull pull system and use only one servo. Throttle of course would be fine with a 148. That's right the upper ailerons are slaved to the drivers. I'm guessing those servos have J connectors? I have a 5 channel Conquest PCM radio I flew with in the 80's, put a new battery in and demo flew it with a 40 size plane just to get back into it, did prtty good for not flying for 25yrs. So now, I'm asking for advise again, should I just look at purchasing a whole new outfit servos and all, and is there a system geared toward the larger planes with better servos right out of the box? I really do not like all the computer stuff, just want the two duel rate sticks, i don't even care for mixing, never had it, didn't need it.

Servo advise for my 1/3 weeks special
Hi all, have a weeks special powerd by a saito twin. Ready to install electronic gear, plan on running one servo per wing for ailrons, two servos for elevator and 1 for rudder and 1 for throttle, total of 6. Will standard futaba servos such as s128's fill the bill? On a tight budget here and already have 6 standard servos. just don't have the cash for high torque ball bearing steel gear ect ect, so will standard servos do the job ok with a 4.8v 1200MA flight battery pack?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Like the comments about the cars.  My moments of madness included a Ford Zephyr with a fuel injected 289 Ford up front, with jag drive line and an FX Holden wioth A9X front end and a wrong way 396 Chev up front through a 2 speed C$ (I think). My current ride is a fully homogulated Datsun 260Z that I guard (read hide) here in FNQ from my sons and daughter. Re the 150 is that the twin plug version.  I had one of those and a twin plug 120 that I swapped for a G500 ST plus numerous go faster bits and an OS40P BIG mistake.  [/quote] Here's my 26 MPG, 4200# "Redneck Mercedes" doing some passes. 1st, some N/A passes: Here's a pass W/a 125 shot of nitrous that ran out just before then traps. It was a 5.7 powered LX record at the time. Wow! low 11's with the family sedan 129'sh MPH to the grocery store I tell ya! Dang that mopar honks on. good job on that!

RE: Supertigre 3000
I'm guessing it sucked up a piece of debris from the fuel tank and it's hung up in the spray bar or whatever it's called (that small slit in the barrel) I would take the carb completely apart and blow it out with some lps contact cleaner or similar.

RE: fa300t advise strange noise
Here's the sellers response, seems honest enough. Looks like I'll have to just eat the shipping cost and all I'll be left with a sour taste in my mouth when it comes to ebay deals. I have to at least ship it back so the guy can have it checked out, right? I have it packaged and ready for the trip. Please return motor and I will have it checked out. If problem is as you say, I will refund your money. If I had known the crankshaft was bent, I would have disclosed that. I will work to rectify the problem. Sorry for getting back to you so late, I was in Florida at my brother's funeral. Thanks, George I'm good with that, the motor if you turn the crank has a definate hard spot each half way around, it feels like the crank to cam gear is binding, the motor has obviously been apart as there are plyer marks on some of the bolts. A new crank for this motor costs $200 bucks! I have the motor boxed and was just waiting on your response, I'll send it tomorrow.

I did run it, and it sounds just like it has a blower, the whine sounds kinda cool actually but i know it's not right. I did contact the seller but it's probably one of those you bought it you own it, if so then I will definately pull it down for inspection, i'm sure theres enough expertise here to help me along when the time comes thanks.

RE: Am I overheating or what?
I see your air exit hole at the bottom seems large enough but I cant see where your air is entering, perhaps that radial cover is hindering air into the cowling, does it have lots of holes around it in front? the photo doesn't show anything.
