RE: Quality of Associated RC18MT
I have one, it's awesome. Bone stock will run circles around most other minis. Handles any terrain with ease, even long grass. You can upgrade the crap out of these things. As far as I know, the RC18 has the most hop-ups of any other. 99.9% of the RC18T parts are compatible with the MT. Most aftermarket sites don't specialize in MT parts, but anything that fits on the T will go on/in the MT. The B should be compatible to an extent. If bored with the MT after a while, you can easily convert to a B or T with a little work. This is my favorite hop-up site. http://www.thetoyz.com/cart/thetoyz_categories.lasso?cat_id=100&cat_name=RC18T&action=list

gearing down a bit...
Hey guys, sorry I haven't been on in quite a while. As a matter of fact, haven't even driven my RC18MT since March due to some crappy circumstances and just brought it out of hibernation. Yep, she still rips!! I've pretty much upgraded everything aside from the motor, ESC and drivetrain (diffs, gears & dogbones etc...). Unlike most who want to make these little suckers do 60 mph, I prefer a more technical drive with lots of jumping and such. I do most of my driving in my backyard, and indoors when weather is inclimate (I live in Massachusetts, so that's a lot...) When the time comes to replace the motor, right now I'm pretty set on the Reedy SP19. Like I said, I don't require more speed, rather more torque. My 1/10 nitro has all the speed I need when I want it!!! So after my rather winded explanation, here's my question... To gear this baby down a bit and make it more controllable for more technical as well as indoor driving, which direction should I go? I have the stock pinion and spur (10/60) and thought changing them would be the easiest, if not only solution. Should I change one or both and what ratio do you think would be best? Also, I'm running 1/10 touring wheels; HPI rims with HPI rally tires and I've inverted both front and rear a-arms. I soooo love this truck. It's a shame I have kept her bagged up for so long! RE: Front End Sticking (Shocks?) rc18t
Aren't the FT shocks threaded? Either way, you need to compress the spring by screwing the collar down or put a few spacers in there. Also, you built them yourself, right? Make sure they're FULL of oil. With the piston fully extended, fill to the top, just allowing a slight indent. Work the piston all the way in and out SLOWLY to remove any air. Make sure when you're done they're still full to the top with that indent. When you screw the cap back on, some oil should ooze out. A non-lubricated piston will be sticky.

RE: Spur Issues 18T
ORIGINAL: prinler4256 is not a mesh issue. the gear is freely moving, and the teeth are all warn off at the base of the gear proving a good gear mesh. perhaps i should go back to the plastic ones?
If the gear is freely moving, then the mesh is probably too loose, causing shearing of the teeth, obviously not binding. There should be the slightest movement between the teeth, that's why people recommend the paper trick. Paper is just the right thickness to keep the gears the proper distance apart. A bit too tight is better than too loose any day. Just put the paper between the gears and snug them together, not too hard, and tighten the motor to the mount. When pushed by hand, it should roll smoothly with no crackling or binding...

RE: Which charger should I get?
There's really no need to cycle with a charger. Sure, it's a nice feature to have, but if you just drive till the battery's dead then charge it, that's cycling. I suppose if you were racing you wouldn't get a chance to do that and you'd just swap packs as soon as they start to die. It all depends on your situation...

RE: Will this work?
ORIGINAL: EKyello Hey guys, I got a RTR RC18T, and I want to get another (better) battery pack and a peak charger. From what people have been saying, this is what I am planning on getting. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMGW7&P=7 https://www.ssl-stormerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/seekpart.pl?src=ns&pn=LOSB1206 Does this look good, and will it work together? Also considering getting the Dirthawg tires, but will probably wait until the stock ones wear down more.
Two things: I have two of those batteries and they are awesome. However, you can try one of these 7-cell/8.4v instead of the 6-cell/7.2v for more power/speed - http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMGW8&P=ML I know some 7-cells (like that style with the thick black cap) fit pretty tightly and require a little effort to get in, but they will work and they offer excellent performance. I wish I had opted for them. As for the charger, you don't want a cheesy wall charger that takes forever to charge. Get this - http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCLD5&P=ML I use it and it rocks. It's affordable, small, lightweight, AC and DC so you can charge virtually anywhere, charges in 0.1 increments to charge any battery perfectly and it will charge NiMH and NiCd if you have any old ones laying aound. I highly recommend it.

I run 6-cell SMC IB1400s with excellent runtimes and great punch. I wish I had opted for the 7-cells though, for that extra oomph.
Racing T Date 2/12/2007 11:47:58 PM the only problem with pin-like tires is that they worn out very quick if you run them on the road.
This is true, however there are different compounds to choose from. Hard would wear slower and med/soft would get chewed up on the street rather quickly. If you're gonna do it, do it right. Get a set of both street and off-road, or if you drive on one much more than the other, go with that style. Street tires will still offer some traction off-road, and vise versa...

RE: Tire Choice for 18mt
If you put 1/10 wheels and tires on you'll need to gear the T like an MT, which is 10/60. I highly recommend it. You'll add ground clearance and it looks so cool. Handles fine too. It really doesn't roll that much more than these little guys do anyway and it doesn't put much strain on the motor as some people believe, provided you're geared properly. Here's my MT with HPI Super Star 1/10 tc wheels, HPI Super Nitro Rally Tires and DP Delrin Adapters. [:D] EDIT: Keep in mind that if you like the look of this setup you need to be specific about the wheel/tire size. Standard tc wheels/tires are 26mm wide. These are a good amount wider (35mm), just 1mm narrower than the stock MT tires. They are also just about 10mm taller total diameter (77mm mounted). Stock MTs are 67mm mounted. That's only 5.5mm difference from the axle, so it's not like it's crazy overgearing it. 5mm is less than 1/4 inch.

RE: inverting the shox...any reason why not?
Remove the shock, take the clip and spring off, unscrew the cap, drain old oil, fill to top with new oil, slowly work the piston a few times to remove air, replace cap tightly by hand (some oil will ooze out which is normal, it's overflow), replace spring and clip, re-install shock. Done. One thing KRO recommended was to use some heat-shrink tubing over the clip and a coil or two of the shock to hold it together. Great idea. I had mine inverted for a while, but now that I have a wide front bumper it protects the clips from popping off. Also, depending on your useage, you will want to put a thinner or thicker oil in, as well as some Green Slime, which is used to prevent leaks and lubricate the piston better. I personally don't use the slime, but I run 40w oil in mine. It's pretty much an average weight. It ranges from like 20 to 70 or something. Big air jumps and heavy bashing would require thicker oil to prevent the shocks from compressing and decompressing too quickly.

RE: Charging Question
1.5mAh should be the max and a good safe rate. 1amp would be best if you have a little extra time. You can always safely charge amps to mAh, which means 1400mAh charge at 1.4amp, 1100mAh charge at 1.1amp. Just put a decimal between the first 2 numbers. Oh, what DTX charger did you get? The Piranha digital? If so, then you can set it to .1amp increments for the perfect charge rate. If you can only set to .5amp increments, always set to the one lower and closest to the mAh rating on your pack. For instance, I would charge my 1400mAh at 1amp because 1.5amp would be higher than the mAh rating. Now this won't kill your battery by any means, but it will lessen the life expectancy of it. Remember this - slow charge = longer runtime; fast charge = more punch (power); charging amp to mAh = perfect blend of runtime and punch

RE: New Jump For My RC18T
I've been using that one myself. I "borrowed" it from my son. It's true the fly-wheels do go 30+ ft straight up and farther lengthwise. It's awesome! I've launched my RC18MT off it pretty good though. It's a bit tricky seeing it's so narrow. Close-up take offs work better than full speed hits. The straight up side is tough on the landings, which are usually not on teh wheels. With practice you can master it, but at first they're ALL gonna come crashing down on the rear end...

RE: rc18t,b,mt gallery- WHY NOT
Just installed the new 3Racing shocks, 3Racing titanium turnbuckles, 3Racing heat sink, Hitec HS-55 servo and 2 more ae diff shims on each outdrive. It's already been outfitted with Intellect IB1400 batts, a DP drag link, 1/10 tc HPI Super Star wheels and 1/10 HPI Super Nitro rally tires mounted on 12mm DP delrin wheel adapters. Eventually the diffs will be upgraded with MIP SuperDiffs and MIP CVDs will be installed. By then the stock motor should be dead and I'll either go brushless or just throw in a Reedy SP-19 Stump Puller. I swapped the black 3Racing springs with the blue stockers for a more custom look. They seem to work nicely.

Did it not turn left or right? Was it slow? Did the gears strip? Sorry for the interrogation, but I ordered one the other day and it should be here this afternoon. Either way, it's better than a broken AE servo that sticks right and clicks like a toy machine gun due to stripped gears. In my opinion, from experience, nothing could be worse than anything stock and thetoyz only carries reputable brands and good items. You'll notice he could stock more, but he only has select items. There are obviously other brands rather than Hitec and also more than two models. Perhaps you got a bad one from the factory? That happens all the time with almost everything. Quality control may have been taking a leak when that one went by on the conveyor...[:@]

RE: RC18MT/T/B Question about Ball cups
ORIGINAL: ZDarryl Currently I am using the stock servo saver, but I have ordered the following: [link=http://www.thetoyz.com/cart/thetoyz_details.lasso?id=8087&cat_name=RC18T#]Drag Link[/link] and [link=http://www.thetoyz.com/cart/thetoyz_details.lasso?id=8122&cat_name=RC18T]Metal Servo Saver Ring[/link]
You will be very happy with the added performance of those items. Use the thicker of the two metal spring rings. The thin one is not much different than the stock plastic ring's tension. Popping ball-cups off sucks, and I've broken more than one. Fortunately I just got some 3Racing turnbuckles with better cups to replace the stockers, but I think Bayou_flyer's idea is pretty good. It really shouldn't take more than 10 seconds to unscrew the ball stud, maybe just 15 seconds for your whole procedure. I suggest getting a better hex with a T-handle from the hardware store, or just something a bit longer than the one that comes with the truck. Good tools ALWAYS make jobs easier...

RE: Quick Emergency Fix
Yes, GPM is a great company. It's always been a tough decision for me between GPM and 3Racing, but I prefer the fit and finish of 3Racing. 3Racing also makes more hop-ups, so it's easier to get all 3Racing parts, rather than all different brands, making a Franken-Truck. I also believe in brand loyalty. As far as the out-of-stock question, you need to contact RJ, owner of thetoyz. He is very good with customer service and communication.
