RE: Dynaflite 40 Spitfire help
Noticed you found a copy from post on another forum. Have a Dynaflite Spitfire myself and it's a great flyer. Just rolled out the plans and open the box for a Dynaflite Corsair earlier tonight myself.

RE: Side Pocket Article
ORIGINAL: doxilia AB, that is a cool looking cockpit in the second picture. Worth keeping a partly cleared canopy with those innards! Was it offered by Wing Mfg. at the time?
The innards were also from Wing Mfg. A rather simple polystyrene cockpit and a heavy paper instrument panel if I recall.
ORIGINAL: doxilia Nice - another design I happen to have spent some time working up (see pics). I like the idea of a pipe down the top deck on this one. Sarpolus was quite forward thinking at the time when he designed this one. Was yours the Hammer 40 or the original 25? Looks like a 40. I enlarged the original 25 ever so slightly below for a piped 25 or even 28 RE (I have one of these on its way...[8D]). A 40 size with an OS 40 VF would be just the companion to the SP. I think both planes have similar moments and aspect ratios.
I looked again and the plans came in 20 & 40 size. This was a Hammer 20 from Flying Models (Plan CF637 published 7/83). Myself and a fellow flyer built two at the time and flew some tight formations with them...when I think back, other flyers tended to land when we started beating up the field in close formation. I went from an Enya .25 to a Enya .29V at some point, but don't recall what happened to the plane. My friend put a .35 in his to keep up and that resulted in a high speed elevator flutter, loss of elevator and a lawn dart into the ground. The balsa used along the hinge line was just too soft as well for the extra speed.

RE: Side Pocket Article
Looks like I wasn't taking many pictures at the time I was flying the Side Pocket and Hammer and the ones I did have were pre-digital. The original SP finally met its demise in early 2000 and the second one was build over the next winter. The original had a build up canopy using bulkheads and stringers covered with chrome covering. Two wide red stripes were added to the bottom of each wing and a large red band on the aft fuselage to help with orientation. Pulling up hard and sending all the controls hard over would make the plane snap into some pretty wild flips and rolls. I purchased the Wing canopy and cockpit for the second one but the metallic blue top over white bottom covering was used again. The Hammer is shown on a set of "snow floats" in Jan 2000. Not much trouble picking this one out in the sky. A couple of more pictures of SP #2 modifications to accept an extra landing gear mount ahead of the wing and custom wing fillets. Duct tape in picture is wrapped around tank to help pull it out. I also noticed that the entire plane was treated with balsarite and perforated with pin holes prior to covering. This was done with three pieces of 1/4 dowel taped together with a pin set in each one. It takes a bit of time but the end result is a good bond for the covering and no bubbles.

RE: Side Pocket Article
I was surprised to accidentally find this thread while searching for RCM Side Pocket so many years after the plans were first published. It is a long time favourite (see profile) and one of only two R/C planes I have ever built two of; the other was a .25 size Hammer. The RCM Side Pocket is a smooth flying plane (build it straight though) and very durable. In the winters, I flew it on home-made "snow floats". The floats were made from a couple of pieces of pink foam glued together with hardwood blocks to fit the standard gear into. Fuselage was re-enforced at mains during construction. The snow floats were about 60% the length of a water float and flat bottomed with no step...perfect for getting over all the foot prints on the field that quickly snagged airplanes on skis.

RE: Dynaflite Spitfire with a 56" wingspan
Good day, I have a few of the Dynaflite warbirds (see my gallery below) and have the plans and instructions for them. I have made copies of most of the ribs, etc in case I ever needed a rebuild. The Spitfire is basic four-channel and is a little on the heavy side compared to the P-40 and P-51 so it is not as easy to fly around at slow speeds. Good luck, AB

RE: HELP ASP Engine Parts
Great, thanks guys. The needle is the plain taper type with the bent end. I see it in the G51 parts list at the SuperTigre site and that should make it easy to track one down.

RE: HELP ASP Engine Parts
Good day, I also have a Magnum 46XL "B" type carburator which is missing the stop screw assembly. There seems to be several possible replacements from a simple screw and spring to a screwnut and finally a threaded insert/screw. Wonder if they all fit the "B" carb? I tried every spare bolt in my inventory and can't match the thread size. Does anyone out there have a similar engine and gauge to check the thread size? Also looking for a needle for an "old" Super Tigre 71, or the thread size... Thanks, Al

RE: Beldone Models
There is a good thread at http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=242398, which covers most of the construction. The construction manual is now available from the new distributer of the kit at http://www.rtmodels.com/CL-415.html I have just started mine, but from what I can tell the quality of the kit is very good.

E-Challenged, Wondering if you have started the P-40. I am looking for a set of rib templates for this kit if they are still available AB

RE: Instruction manual for Dynaflite P-40
Good day, I have several Dynaflite kits and have also been looking for the P-40 instruction manual. A copy was mailed to me last Friday and should be available shortly. Please contact me if you still require a copy. If possible, I am also looking for a copy of the P-40 rib templates. Would you be willing to trace copies? Thanks for your time, Al P.S. RE: Jemco Corsair and/or AT-6 plans
E-challenged, As of yesterday, I'm now the owner of a 'new' Jemco P-51 compliments of EBay. I agree these are great planes to fly, they can be modified and covered to make good stand-off scale models and compared to the high-priced scale stuff, I don't mind flying them every week-end without fear of a major mishap. I added some shots to my gallery including the P-82. How to I get a photo into my "post" box to the left? AB

RE: Jemco Corsair and/or AT-6 plans
My second plane (1 st was Pilot QB15) was a Jemco Mustang. Powered by an Enya 40 XTV, it flew well for many years. The wing was built up and I believe the leading edge was a hardwood dowel. The plane was relatively light, about 4 1/4 lbs as I recall. Good Luck with your conversion.

RE: Dynaflite P-40 Kit?
I am currently flying both the Dynaflite .40 size P-40 and Spitfire. They are both great flyers but the P-40 is built lighter than the Spit and flies smoother (maybe a balance issue as well). The P-40 has an OS46 and the Spit has an Enya 45CX so neither lacks power. I recently completed the P-82 Twin Mustang which also appears to be a good flyer...only four flights...lost an engine on first three !!! It has twin Enya 40Xs and shouldn't lack power either. The unreliable one was replaced but the plane hasn't been flown since. The second plane I owned was a Jemco P-51, another great flyer. I am also looking for a source of Marks Models/Jemco/Dynaflite WWII kits, plans/templates. I kept the templates for the P-82 but the P-40 and Spit were purchased completed. I would like to get P-40 templates to bash into a fun scale Hurricane. Perhaps individuals who have kits may take the time to make templates to allow some scratch builders to kit their own : )

RE: Jemco Corsair and/or AT-6 plans
I am interested in plans/templates for any of the Marks Models/Jemco/Dynaflite WWII series. I have templates for the P-82 and could make doubles, perhaps we can exchange?
