RE: MANTIS
I'm using shocks made by CEN it's part number GSS09, I believe it's for their MT. Anyways, if you do use them, I went with the shorter shock end due to binding. Also, I had to change the shock position. On the shock tower I moved the mount over one hole in and on the lower arm I moved it out. As for hop ups they have new CNC shock towers, which are thicker and more mounting positions. They also have aluminum steering blocks and hub carriers, of course they're anodized red. Also, I believe they have a CF radio tray. Ultimate Hobbies carries a lot of spares and the hop ups. You can go to ultimatehobbies.com, but they're site is kind of hard to navigate or give them a call.

Here are some pics of my Mantis with the new shocks and the JR servos. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Servos if your linkages aren't set up right. I haven't had any problems with my shocks.

RE: MANTIS
I just picked up my Mantis about 3 weeks ago and love it. The Axial .28 is a good engine easy to start and easy to tune. After blowing the stock steering servo, I replaced both the throttle and steering servos with JR650's. So, far it's a good basher, but haven't taken it to the track yet. Here's a link to a video from a couple of weeks ago. I know the driving sucks, but the steering servo was already starting to go. NewKid-Do you run at Crystal Park? RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
ORIGINAL: hillbilie ok i got my firestorm last monday but havent had time to break it in yet untill today, i am using trinity monster horsepower 20% and i could only get the truck to run for a few seconds then it would die, at the most it ran for like 20sec the idle is good and everything i have not messed with the hsn or lsn because they are already set for break in, the only way i could get it to run is by puting a few drops of fuel into the cylinder then pulling on it to clear it out a little, put the glow plug back in, then it would start right up and run for a few secs then die. i pressurized the fuel tank by puting my finger over the exhaust stinger and pulling a few times untill i saw fuel reach the carb, what do u guys think my prob is. the only thing i think is wrong is maby there are still some air bubles in the fuel line, it seems like fuel starvation? and i am broke so i bought one of those glow plug ignitors that runs off a c batterie and it does not seem to last long at all, how long do the recharable ignitors last? thanks guys im going to get back on it in the morning i should be able to figure this out, does it usually take a long time to get a motor going for the first time?
My bro had the same prob with his Firestorm also. We looked at it and noticed that the cooling head was not properly bolted on. Once the cooling head was tightened, it ran like a champ. Give that a try.

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
My bro just got the Firestorm and we just finished breaking it in. The Firestorm runs pretty good, my only gripe is with the tuned pipe. Is there a way to keep the fuel tube attached to the tuned pipe without it popping off? Or what aftermarket tuned pipe would be a good replacement.

RE: Ultimate Hobbies
I also visit Ultimate Hobbies about once a week. They have a huge selection in store and have the lowest prices out of all other LHS in the area. My only complaint is that they're always short staffed.

It looks like I'll be getting the Losi 8ight RTR for my b-day. My wife tried to surprise me, but I found out from just checking our e-mails. Ssshhhh, don't say anything. She has no idea that I know. [:D]
ORIGINAL: mozzzy_2000 then clean it out with turps and dry with meths.
I'm getting a RTR Losi 8ight and I want to get rid of the diff grease and change them to oil. This may be a dumb question, but what exactly is turps and meths? What do you recommend for diff weights for bashing?

With any nitro, I would use it after a day of running. It just gives me peace of mind.

RE: Getting Back Into the Scene
ORIGINAL: Super_Dave
ORIGINAL: dustineich Stau away from the Losi they have some durability and tuning issues to sort out.
Thought I love my pro kit I'm still gunna tell you to stay away from the 8ight RTR. It comes with a great radio and decent servos but the grease in the diffs, 2 shoe clutch (its the same clutch as the pro kit they just left out 2 shoes that you can add later), and plastic shock caps all seem to cheap for what you pay for in my opinion. The engine that comes in it is a very powerfull one though. I think you best bet for RTRs is the turmoil even though I haven't gotten my hands on one I've heard good things about it. Awesome engine... I race with the .21 version of it and have outpowered a Novarossi P5X with it, both engines on optimum tune. The durability is just as tough as any other buggy so no worries about that. I think I've heard of a few bent shock towers but not many at all and you can upgrade to the pro parts for pretty cheap. It also comes with the spektrum radio and the servos are the best out of any RTR but they should still be upgraded later on.
I understand that the price is a little high, but besides the greased diffs, 2 shoe clutch, and shock caps, are there any other reasons? I've also read about the throttle servo issue, but I think it's only some of the RTR's. As for the Turmoil, it looks like a great buggy. I've read the thread here and on different fourms. Since, it's distributed by Horizon, are the parts going to be interchangeable with the 8ight? The reason I ask is that the local LHS doesn't seem to stock many parts for the Turmoil. Other than that I'm still up in the air.

No time for racing, but I'm not ruling it out. It would be more just to bash and spend some time with my son.

Getting Back Into the Scene
Alright people I'm starting to get back into the RC's again. I just bought my son an AE 18T and we're both loving it. Now it's time for dad (ME) to get a new ride again. I used to have a T-Maxx, OFNA LD3, and an XTM buggy. Out of all 3 I preferred the 1/8 buggy. I have done research on a lot of the RTR 1/8 scale buggy's and I know most people prefer the kit over the RTR. I'm just having trouble choosing between the TL 8ight, Jammin' X1, or the OFNA Hyper 8. What would you pick?
