RE: Going to seperates
Well, I guess I have no choice but to sell it. I can't get any help anywhere on how to set it up how I want it so now it's for sale. It's an axe cp (the nimh version) it flies fine. It has quite a few spare parts with it. The following spare parts were never opened: -Carbon fiber tail boom - (2) feathering shafts -tail motor mount -GWS motor with two props (the $10 one) -blades -tail blade Other spare used or opened new parts: -GWS motor (same one above, it was opened but never used) -one blade grip (new) $110 plus shipping, I though I could have fun with this, but I guess I was wrong. If someone is willing to help I would really appreciate it, otherwise it is for sale. If I can't sell it here, I'll probably list it on ebay. Thanks, Austin

I've been reading the the e-flight 3 in 1 works with spektrum radio's. Would it work with my futaba system, if so I can keep it simple and just buy a eflight 3 in 1. Thats really my only goal to be able to use my futaba reciever. I don't need the heading hold gyro or some sooped up motor.[:D] Thanks again, Austin

I would keep your voltage the same and up your mah. If you lower the voltage you will lower your power, and if you raise your voltage you will increase power but risk stressing something out. Austin

mah is nothing but capacity the motor could handle 5000mah (for example) it's the voltage that will kill a motor. The only downfall in higher capacity is wieght and size. Austin

That's about what you'll get with a 400mah nimh battery, nothing wrong with it just how it is. 5-10 min is respecable for a stock micro heli. If you want more flight time either buy more batteries or switch over to lipo. Austin

Going to seperates
Well after hours of trouble I finally figured out that my 3 in 1 unit in my helimax axe cp is not compadable with my futaba 2.4ghz 6 channel system. So I've decided that I'll go seperates so I can use my system. This is my first electric aircraft, I just got out of having many many gas planes and still have the urge to fly something (that's why I bought the heli). I still kept a few things such as my accu cycle elite charger and of course my Futaba FASST system. I'd like to keep it as cheap as possible but still have a half decent heli that doesn't give me grief. Therefore I'm going to keep the motor (both brushed) just because I see no need to spend the extra money. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm going to have to get a gyro and esc (they need to work with my futaba 2.4ghz reciever) I know the stock 3 in 1 unit has some sort of throttle and pitch mixing thing in it (do I need something that does the same thing? Now like I said I'd like to keep it as cheap as possible so of course I've been looking at gyro's on ebay (new ones of course). There seems to be a lot of decent options before I spend $110 for futaba's cheapest one. One that I seems like it will work is the Imax gyro. [link=http://cgi.ebay.com/iMax-G192-Locked-Gyro-for-4-6CH-RC-helicopter_W0QQitemZ130231711984QQihZ003QQcategoryZ34056QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem]click here[/link] It says it will work for 4-6 channel heli's and it will work for gas or electric . Will it work for me? Please feel free to mention any other somewhat cheap gyro's that you think might work for my application. Now as far as the ESC goes I don't know where to start. I have no idea what kind of voltage I need and I would like the option to be able to use a lipo (I would be willing to purchase a lipo if it would work for lipo's and not nimh's) Please bear with me this is my first heli and my first electric setup. Any help whatsoever is greatly appreciated. Also I can solder pretty well if it helps. Thanks, Austin

RE: Axe cp tail motors?
well, it turns out, after reading nscradar's link that I'm not going to be able to use the 3 in 1 unit. It isn't compadable with my Futaba system. Now I'm going to have to spend the money to go full seperates because if I don't I know the gitches will cost more than making the change. Oh well. Austin

Futaba 2.4ghz 6 channel fasst programming
I switched the reciever out on my helimax axe cp with an extra futaba fasst receiver so I can use my 6 channel 2.4ghz system. I've got the swashplate all set up and now I'm working on getting the motor working properly with the radio. The problem I'm having is that the radio seems to think that it is controling a servo, as opposed the the ESC that it is controlling. Therefore the paddles only turn when the throtle stick is moving and stop when it is stopped. Just as it would give current to a servo as it is moving and stop giving current when the stick has stopped. My question is, is there a way to change it so it will work (not think it is a servo) and know it is an ESC so it is always giving current. Please bear with me, this is my first electric aircraft that I have programmed. I'm used to doing gas planes witch are much easier. Thanks, Austin

Futaba FASST 6 channel with a helimax axe cp
Hey guys, I just got my first chopper, a helimax axe cp. I would really like to use my FASST system with this, but I don't know how it would work. Right now the copter has a 3 in 1 unit, receiver, gyro, and ESC. Is there a way to incorperate my FASST reciever in there without having to buy a new gyro and ESC. I read a while back about someone doing this with a spektrum unit, but I don't know if it can be done with a Futaba system. Thanks, Austin

Lipo Balancers?
I just got my first chopper (helimax axe cp), this is my first battery powered vehicle and I'm already looking into lipo batteries for the thing. I came across **** (yes I know their stuff is junk (but it's cheap) and found that they have a LM Loong Max brand of batteries that makes a 3S1P 1000mah lipo that will fit in my helicopter. Now I have a hobbico accu clycle elite charger that I used for all my nimh and nicd batteries, it will work for lipos, but I need to buy a balancer. I was checking out the Great Planes Equinox balancer for $30 that seems like it will work great. The only problem is that I don't know what type of balancing plug the LM Loong max battery has (it doesn't say), would it fit? Also, other balancer and lipo batteries are welcome for suggestion, I'm open for opinions. Thanks, Austin

Axe cp tail motors?
I just ordered my first RC heli, an axe cp. It seemed like the best choice, the parts are redily available and it seems like a decent heli. I got it used off ebay, he says he used it twice. I got it for $88 including shipping so I figure even if there is something wrong with it I'm still ahead. I've been reading about these tail motors and their problems so I have a few questions. First off, how often do they burn out, obviously you can't count a crash, but I mean how often do they just burn out from usual flying (about how many flights). I read about [link=http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=V019752&pid=NESKV003]these[/link] tail motors workig on the blade cp, but would they work on the axe. It sure would beat having to pay $25 for a new motor, even if they would burn out twice as often, I really don't care how often I have to work on it, I just care how much it cost. I also read about directly connecting the motors (getting rid of the gears) to the props, I just dont' understand what advantage this would give you?, I'm thinking that it makes the tail response quicker, but would it make the motors last longer? Thanks, Austin

Hey, I'm getting a list together of what parts I need to order for the heli (parts that will most likely break) any suggestions on parts that usually break in a crash, I remember reading about bp hobbies tail motors (linked below) that fit the blade cp, does anybody know if they will work for the axe. I appreciate the help, Thanks Austin

Thanks for your replies, but it doesn't matter now. Someone on ebay accepted my extremely low offer (I didn't think they would) on an axe cp, I feel better buying a reputable brand anyways and I can get the parts from tower hobbies which is my favorite on line dealer. Thanks, Austin

Also keep in mind that some receivers and servos are not made to withstand the voltage of a 6v pack. Very few won't work with 6v but it's best to check. Austin

Give the guy a break, yes it is dangerous, but he knows what he's getting into. The chances of someone getting hurt with this setup aren't much more than any other plane with a 20cc engine. Austin

I would go with 2.4ghz. I have been using the Futaba 6ex for about 6 months and I love it. I currently fly a 50cc gasser with it and (yea I trust it[:D]) and haven't had as much as a glitch. 2.4ghz isn't really new technology, just new to RC. It has been used for years in everything from your wireless home phone to your lock/unlock remote for your car. Austin
