RE: Global Ricochet Kit
The boom in my kit measures 29 1/2" and the CG is 3 7/8" from the leading edge (=rear edge of the spar). The plans don't show full length on the boom so unless is says something in the instructions about cutting it I guess its used full length. Dave

RE: new toy trying to identify it.....
Very good point C_M. This is a great plane to learn about flying "on the wing" with ,imho. The only real surprise to me was the slow roll rate so be ready with rudder and elevator in the rolls. Dave

RE: new toy trying to identify it.....
Balsa USA Citabria Airbatic Pro. Only one full scale built. That looks to be a nice one and 9 -10 lbs is great. Mines is just under 12. Dave

RE: CG - Citabria Pro Balsa USA
GoNavy, I've got the BUSA Citabria and have used 3 different engines in mine. Started with a Enya 90 4c, then an ASP 1.08 and it now has a pumped OS 120 4c. I need to pull her out for the season anyway so I'll try to check where my C.G. is since no one else is chiming in. I don't think with the OS I have any additional weight at all but do remember for sure that with the Enya I had nose weight. My servos are all forward and I currently run a A123 battery pack that gives me some adjustablitly. I'll let you know what I find on mine. Dave

Jim, I've got a partial kit that has the plans with it. They're not in great shape but if no one else chimes in with a good set I can get them copied. This is the 37" span Vee tail. Dave

RE: Help needed on flying wing construction.
Right now with the 120 it weighs right at 12 lbs. I lengthened the motor mount area and was able to get rid of alot of lead so it might just be a little lighter now than with the Fox. I've been tempted a few times to see how much weight it could fly with.

RE: Help needed on flying wing construction.
Sorry my example doesn't really match your project but thought I might encourage you to hang with it. Nearly 19 years ago I started tinkering with this 80" one. Had a blast exploring and overcoming different design problems (started out as a tail dragger !). Started out with a K&B 60 but have used a Fox .74 for most of its life. Last year I installed a 1.20 4c but haven't got around to trying that config. Certainly have to agree with CP about the very different looking and feeling manuvers possible. Coolest flight to date was when one aileron pulled free and was dangling by the pushrod. Made it down with no problem and had decent right and left turning ability!

RE: How did you spend Sat. 03-17-12?
Ah, I spent mine laying tile in the bathroom.....and then a couple hours of past due maintenance to the "get me to work car".....BUT wait, there was a wonderful half hour or so of tuning up the 4 stroke on the Contender waiting for its maiden flight.

RE: Vintage DIY
Here's the result of my wild hair idea a couple of winters ago. I was hoping for a nerf bomber/paratroop dropper/calm enough to buddy box someone with if they wanted a try. It flies but is still under development. Just installed a .50 in place of the weak .40 and need to make the tail wheel steerable for better control on the ground. I used an old Kadet flat bottom wing and cut some barn door ailerons. Has terrible adverse yaw. Worse yet, the booms are developing a twist. So if you try your own let me know. I figured out how not to do it [&o] Dave

RE: Spacewalker II
Hey GK, I used to fly with a dear old gentlman who had a big Nosen Champ that didn't want to turn without rudder, wind or no wind. I thought he was yankin my chain till he called me over and handed me the sticks. It just wouldn't do it. That left stick is a good one to learn to use anyway![:D] Dave

RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro 2008 build
Hey Rick, thanks. I'll definitely get some video as soon as I can get a camera operator (are you listening wifey?). The 120 will pull a pretty good size loop from level at full song. I only tried a 15-8 this time out so I've got some experimenting left to do. I had forgotten how smooth it looks in the air!

RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro 2008 build
Thanks rowlsearle, she has held up pretty well. The covering is 21st century fabric and the covering job is about 12 years old now. The guy at the field yesterday gave me a great complement after I landed yesterday by saying how very scale like the flight was. That's what I'm after with this plane! It's not for 3d . Take off needs smooth throttle advance, rolls require top rudder and down elev. With the 120 it seems to have adequate power but certainly not excessive. I'm glad to have her back in the air again!! RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro 2008 build
Hey Rick, Hard to believe but the covering is still in great shape after 10 years. I used 21st Century and it has really held up. I read once that since its painted you can wax it, so I gave that a try and it really came back to life. I did install the 120 pumped version OS and have an A123 reciever pack. A few ground runs have me anticipating a great match for this air frame. In the video is the original 90 4c and most of those flights were very near full throttle. I don't want a prop hanger but it was just a little too little. My pilot did not fair as well. I had left his face unpainted and it had really deteriorated. For the time being I thought I'd carve a new head out of foam. It looked a little blocky and it struck me that it looked like Ben Grim (the thing - fantastic 4), so I painted it up that way. I'm sure I'll have to explain it to the guys I fly with. I'll replace him sometime, but for now at least there won't be a big empty spot, like in the video.

RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro 2008 build
I'll take you up on the offer to post Rick. Mine has been refurbished (post4) and ready all summer but has not been in the air. I've had quite a dose "many things" as well. To ease the pain abit I've pulled some video from tape of an early flight with mine. Its rough video and nothing great about the flying, but it is a nice subject. [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9N6Mu_pG7k[/link] I'm hoping the day after Thanksgiving will be fit weather. Maybe some more (better) video. Dave

RE: Featherlite 21cc
When all else fails let logic do some troubleshooting. My carb was bought "new" from bayworld and certainly appears new. I didn't want to tear it apart but, voila', crap in jet = only run with choke on. Now it is SWEET!. 7800 with MA 14-8, idle a little high but not bad.. Guess it was debris from factory assembly but what a pain. Dave

RE: Featherlite 21cc
w8ye, thanks for posting your carb size, thats what I've been trying to use so I guess it's not too big. New gaskets all around helped some but still can't seem to get enough adjustment on high needle. I'm about to go back to my Homey I originally slated for this plane. I'm out of ideas. Sorry to butt in Rcpilot.....I've got a pile of these things rescued from the local recycler and would love to hear one overhead...

RE: Featherlite 21cc
I've been working with one of these and you should be able to hit the rpm your looking at. I've got a 14-8 on mine (its what I had on hand) and get around 7300 with stock ignition. Muffler has baffle removed with a 2'' x .5 diameter discharge extension welded on. I'm still fighting either an air leak or my carb is too big. To get high mixture close my needle is about to fall out running with about 1/4 choke. Adapter was made from stock square drive drilled and tapped with a large diameter washer welded on for prop. I don't think mine is going work out for my project though. Was going to put it on a bridi old timer but I don't think its going to have the umph needed. Dave

RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro 2008 build
Hey Rick, That is a sweet mount! I've got a Pro I built several years ago that I'm bringing out of retirement. Originally I powered it with a well broken in (read that used) .90 FS. It was on the low side of the power required. I later installed an ASP 1.08 which was way more than enough for the way I like to fly but I really missed the FS sound. I hope to have it back in the air in the next few weeks with a pumped 1.20 OS. Its been in the hangar for 3 or 4 years so I'm going over everything.
what you would do different if you had it to do all over again?
Glass and paint the belly pan. I covered mine in 21st Century fabric (red) and film (white). It has held up great except for the pan wrinkles.
Did you have to add much weight to get it balanced?
With the .90 and the 1.08 I didn't have to add weight. I've not checked balance yet with the 1.20. She is a little portly at just under 12lbs. This is the old BUSA design though so I don't know what they've changed that could effect weight.
For aerobatic flying how did all the control throws work out?
Rolls seem slow even at full over (scale like I guess). Inverted seemed to take alot of down input even though balance checked within range. Maybe a parasol design thing I don't know. I'm looking forward to getting mine back in the air now that I'm flying some again. This was my first attempt at scale anything and I really like the looks of it in the air. Good luck with yours. Hey, just wondering how your build is going. I've decided to pick back up on the one I started 3 years ago. A move interupted things and I'm just now getting back into the swing of things. I have a new 'mandated' hour long lunch and figured that would be a great time cut my 'kit'. By the way, a big thanks to your uncle.
