RE: Master airscrew
Just picked up a Master Airscrew 3-Blade 14-7, and found the hole drilled at an angle to the hub. So much so, that you can see the hub wobble on the balancer. When mounted, one side of the hub will not seat. I have several 3-Blade and many 2-Blade MA props and haven't seen this before. I dont mind balancing, however, I would like the bore to be perpendicular to the plane of rotation. Andy

Will a OS "F" plug work in a 2 stroke SK .90? I thought they were for 4 Strokes. They look kinda long. Has anyone else done this? [quote]ORIGINAL: Oldbob ACGEORGE, I have had the same problem with inverter engines, both 2s and 4s and with several different makes of engines. Many engines seem to run rich when inverted in the plane. What I do is lean the idle needle 1/8 turn at a time

RE: SK ENGINES
I'm having trouble with a SK .90, mounted inverted in a 60 size P-51. I broke in the engine upright, it runs great. Now that I it have mounted inverted, I can't keep it running without glow power. I have a low profile tank mounted at the CG, basically sits on top of the wing, placing the centerline of the tank even with the needle on the carb. Also have a perry V-30, due to the distance of the tank from the engine. The idle needle is set at 1-1/2 turns and the high speed needle at 2-1/2 turns. Tried a plug with idle bar, not much help. Seems like, onboard, always on, glow power is a option. I could lower the tank a little further if I move it up against the firewall; was hoping to keep it at the CG. Any help would be appreciated. RE: A new P-38 ARF
One problem we have is, people are bypassing the RCUniverse Bid and purchase system. People are going directly to NitroModels. If you look at their rating, you will see (44 good, 1 OK, 1 Bad). I'm sure these numbers are grosely understated. A new buyer, unfamilier with Nitromodels business practices and history, will assume they are a decent company to deal with. The rating system is a very important tool, for all of us to use. I'm sure, NitroModels directs all purchasers to their web site. I haven't had a problem with NitroModels or Raiden Tech (possibly the same company?), just lucky I guess. However, I am very leary of any future purchases, and I really want the new P-38 .50! Just my opinion, for what its Worth. Andy

RE: 3-1/2" 3-Blade Red Spinners for a P-51???
Here is the reply I got from Horizon Hobby. Very nice of him to take the time and reply with such detail: Hi Andrew, We do not currently have any Plastic Parabolic Spinners for this plane. CBA went out of business and was purchased by K+B. K+B as yet to produce the spinners under there name. You are able to back order the item, however we do not have an accurate ETA on this item ( K+BCB5073 ). Tru-Turn has announced they will be producing Anodized Aluminum Spinners in red for the P-51's ( TRUTT3502BAR ). These are due to release mid March. Has far as a uncut spinners I am not aware of any in plastic. Please let me know how we may further assist you. Thank you and have a great day, Brett Brett P. RE: 3-1/2" 3-Blade Red Spinners for a P-51???
Well, I'm not doing it for scale appearance. Since this is my first warbird, I'm trying to tame the speed down. I'm using a .90 2c, so I have chosen a 12-6 3B as opposed to a 13-8 2B. Should give me better slow speed performance for take-off and landings, and a little less Power/thrust. I will change to a 2B after some stick time with the 3B. Most of the Hanger 9 trainers are 3B. Does this make sense? So, any idea where to get a 3-1/2 red spinner (plastic with alum back plate). I can do the cut for the blade. Thanks

3-1/2" 3-Blade Red Spinners for a P-51???
Any body know where to get a 3-1/2", 3-Blade, Red Spinners for a .60 size P-51? No one seems to have these. Even a spinner without cuts would be fine. I don't really want an aluminum spinner, mainly because I don't want to spend $50 or more. A nylon spinner with aluminum back plate would be just fine. Thanks

Connecting rod dia. for retractrs on .60 P-51
Still working on my World Models .60 P-51. I'm replacing all hardware that came with the ARF. My question is regarding the rod connecting the retract servo to the mechanical retracts. The rod which came with it is slightly larger than 2-56 rod, but no where near a 4-40. I was wondering if 2-56 would be a safe exchange? Or should I use the 4-40? When I actuate the retracts by hand, there is no noticable flex in the 2-56 rod. What do you think? Thanks Andy

That did the trick. I didnt realize the four arms are at slightly different angles. Tha Airtronics large servo arms are marked "S" and "L". Two are slightly shorter than the others. I wanted to use the long arms but they wouldn't line up. I rotated them 90 deg to the shorter arms, and they line up perfectly. Thanks

RE: Hangar 9 P-51 60 fuel tank
I'm currently building a .60 P-51 (my first warbird), and intended to place the tank at CG, if possible. Are you saying a 2-stroke .91 may not be able to pull fuel from that distance? Will I need a pump? Is a pump a safe upgrade, regardless? Thanks Andy

Installed my first aileron hinges
I installed my first aileron hinges the other day, on my Raiden Tech P-51 .60 ARF. After reading many posts and tutorials, I decided to go with GP hinges. They recomended using CA or epoxy. When asked thier oppinion on Gorilla Glue (GG), they would not comment. I saw GG used in the Robart Hinge Points video, and it made alot of sense. The GG expands filling the voids between the barbs and is as strong as epoxy. One buddy expressed concern about the expansion of the glue and possibly splitting the balsa. I heard Elmers version of GG, called Ultimate glue (UG), foamed less. I purchased some UG proceeded to install the hinges. Slotting for these hinges took some time due to the added thickness of the GP hinge. Here is what I did: 1. I oiled the hinges, removing the excess. 2. Slightly wet the slot, with a toothpic. 3. Aplied a thin layer UG to the slot, with a toothpic. 4. Aplied a thin layer UG to the hinge, with a toothpic, making sure to get it in the holes. 5. Pushed it in half way, and wiped excess glue. 5. Pushed remainder of way in, wiping excess glue. 6. Flexed hinge to ensure full travel, wiping excess glue. 7. Came back every 15 minutes to wipe excess glue as it foams. Acetone works great to gemove UG Everything set up nicely, and I have full range of motion with no binding or restriction. I will be doing the rest of the hinged in the same manner, and let you know who it goes. Having never used CA hinges, only read about thier installation, I would have to say the GP hinges and UG process is much more time consuming. There is also a greater risk of gluing the hinge fixed, if excess glue isn't removed promptly. I did a small experiment where I used a blue crayon and colored over the hinge area, filling in the gaps between the hinge and on the ends. I applied some UG and let it dry. two days later, I flexed the hinge and the glue popped right off in one chunk, with blue crayon adheared to it. I need to do the same with a uncoated hinge, as a control. I will also make some effort to determind the difference in foaming capacity between GG and UG.
