RE: Help identifying this bird
Yeah it's busted up a bit. Probably got some garage damager. Other than having to rebuild the vertical stab however it is in good shape. Never had a motor mounted unless it was electric.

RE: going to try instead of arf.
A Great Planes Stik was my first kit. Simple box fuse. very streightforward. I have since bashed it and turned it into a taildragger. Awesome flyer!

Thanks for the input. Any of you Jugheads out there used the Top Flite interior kit for this bird? I find the instructions somewhat lacking and would appreciate any pointers. Thanks

RE: Topflite Gold kit P-47
Monocote can take some practice but once you get the hang of it, it is a great product. You have probably seen some instructional videos on it. If not I highly recommend it. Lots of practical tips. The best advice I ever got on covering with Monocote is "don't be afraid to make seams". It makes the product much more managable and looks great. Just make sure to use the Top Flight Seam Solvent as directed and keep any seems adjusted in such a way that they are not adversely affected by the airflow. As re the woodpecker, I like it. It seems to help greatly in reducing airpockets and getting a good bond. Monocote is so tough and heavy that I have never noticed any of the dibits appearing through the surface as some have commented re different coverings. I prefer an iron over a heat gun. Much more control, They recommend not to use presure when adhering to balsa sheeting, rather rely on high heat to set the material. When applying Monocote over itself lower the temperature on the iron and be especially careful around existing seems, as high heat can cause the material to release its bond. When it comes to the wingtips, cut fingers (in material, not your own :)), heat and stretch. If dealing with two different colors, say top and bottom, I have found that if you place a trim piece (same color as the top) over the bottom material with a nice finish edge and then wrap your top material over the wip it will hide all those overlapping fingers and give a nice finish. Post some more pics of your covering as you proceed. I am excited to get to that point soon and will be encouraged by your results

RE: Topflite Gold kit P-47
Ben, and all you other 'jugheads' out there........ I just mounted my firewall this evening and seriously contemplating what scheme I want to finish with. I have decided on Olive Drab with the light grey underbelly, along with olive drab on the cowl with a white ring on the front. My problem is I am planning on useing monocote (I have no fibreglass and paint experience). Lustrecote paint does not come in olive drab. Anyone know where I can get OD paint that is nitro proof? Or any other solution? I would appreciate your input. Grumpy Gorilla

RE: Sig Kadet Senior - Tail dragger conversion?
I would recommend going on the high side of the Sig recommendations re power. I used a .61 Evolution before my conversion. I find the higher power can be very beneficial in certain situations to get out of trouble.

RE: Sig Kadet Senior - Tail dragger conversion?
Sorry for the delayed response, and by the way I saw your pics later added. VERY NICE! Hope to see the completer project. Am out of town presently and do not recall the size of the tailwheel. I will check when I get home next week. The attached pics may help. Note that on the servo I used a larger arm so that the wheel connection would not interfere with the pull pull on the rudder. After observing my own pics I see that I did just the opposite of what I said earlier in the thread. I attached the pull pull on the OUTSIDE of the arm instead of inside as I previously indicated. Let us see how your Kadet turns out! What are you planning for power?

RE: Sig Kadet Senior - Tail dragger conversion?
I converted my Kadet Sr. ARF to a taildragger usng a pull pull set up on the tail wheel. I set up the rudder on the same servo attaching the pull pull to the outside of the servo arm and the rudder in two wholes. This gives me more responsive ground control. I am running a Saito .91 4 stroke and loving it. Grump Gorilla

RE: Topflite Gold kit P-47
Thanks for all the insight. From a kit building standpoint i have only built a GP Stik (tail dragger) and a TF Contender. I have a TF AT-6 ARF that I am about to get enough nerve and, hopefully, experience to get in the air. I have jumped into the TF P-47 kit and am enjoying immensely. All your pics and comments have helped to clarify some ot the instructions. I am thinking of putting a Saito 1.25 in it (I have the Saito 1.00 in my Texan and a Saito .91 in my Katdet Sr. tail dragger and thus am getting acquainted with there operation). Would appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thanks again. Love this thread! Grumpy Gorilla

RE: When does the nevousness stop?
iT LOOKS LIKE WE ARE IN GOOD COMPANY. I SUFFER THE SAME IF I HAVE NOT BEEN FLYING IN A WEEK OR TWO. WHAT HELPS ME MOST IS AS SOON AS I GET UP ON MY FIRST FLIGHT OF THE DAY IS TO DO SOME FIGURE 8'S AND JUST GET COMFORTABLE RIGHT AND LEFT THEN A COUPLE OF LOOPS AND I AM GOOD TO GO! GRUMPY GORILLA

Here is my completed Kadet tail dragger conversion. I put a Saito 91 in her. She cruises at about 1/8 throttle.

RE: TF Contender, a beginers view
Very nice! The contender was my 2nd attempt at kit building. I put a .61 Evolution in it and it screams! Also made with the upturned wingtips and flaps, just for fun. I like to be a little different so I avoided the Navy scheme and made mine with a racer scheme using "Miller High Life"

RE: Kadet Senior - Taildragger Conversion -Mains
This has been an awesome thread. I started flying two years ago on a Kadet Sr. ARF. It suffered aome minor damage, but enjoyed fixing it. It's been a nice learning experience. Meanwhile, I built a Great Planes Stik from a kit and made it a taildragger so as to get some experiance with that in order to fly my AT-6 that has been built for the last year but not enough courage to take it out. I also just completed and took the maiden flight on my recently re-release of a TF Contender that I built from a kit to experience low wing. Anyway, I have now stripped down the Kadet to rebuild into a taildragger and have purchased a Saito 91 for her. Following this thread has been very rewarding. Thanks to all

RE: Top Flite AT6 ARF
Hey guys, I'm the new kid in town. Just building a TF AT-6 and installing JR DS821 servos. This servo however does not fit into the space for the retracts. Only about 5/8" clearance from the bottom of the servo mounts (the 821's are about 1.25" ). What are you using or am I doing something backwards? Thanks, Grumpy Gorilla[;)]
