RE: Plane power system for engineering project
I was going to say the same thing you need to design lighter than a 5 pound plane with a 34" span.Heck I have a 36" champion Eindecker with a dragonfly .049 engine ,3 mini servos,4 ch rx and 225 mah pack that weighs 16 ounces fueled.if you are limited to 34 " span you may want to consider a bi plane.the ww2 grumman duck for example.the b-24 used a davis airfoil.it was a high lift variety.

RE: Acer Super Pacer build
sig made nylon hinges back then that used regular straight pins for the hinge pins then there were klett hinges and finally there was a flat hinge material that was supposed to be indestructable that glue would not stick to that had to be pinned on each side with two straight pins.

RE: engines...bringing them back from the dead?
usually soaking in fuel or denatured alcohol not rubbing alcohol ,as it contains water.will loosen up the congealed oil.if the carb does not free up heat from a heat gun or sitting in sunlight or even an oven at 200 degrees will free it up.you may have to replace bearings or a ring if applicable .frank bowman has rings for almost any engine.good luck

RE: Royal Spitfire fuselage tracing needed
the only problem in trying to do the repair from plans is the actual parts are a different size than what is shown on the plans,at least in the three royal kits I have previously built.that is the reason for the request of just one fuselage side.the formers I can cut from the originals.probably change from the hardwood beam mounts till a hayes type mount

Royal Spitfire fuselage tracing needed
Hi, I have a crashed spitfire I pulled from a trash can that I do not have plans for,I need to make two new fuselage sides and the originals are missing a few pieces around the wing saddle area.if anyone can trace out a fuselage side and scan and e-mail it to me it would be a big help.also have to repair a wing that folded from a bad build, but have a plan for that and the original ribs. Thanks

RE: beginner twin kit or ARF
it all depends what you can afford.larger engines use more fuel a bit harder to transport.if you have the room and money then go for it.

RE: Maybe it's a sign that I'm just getting old...
Hi, I am 54 ,watched my dad and grandfather struggle to fly controline at the Springfield airport back in 57-58. Dad got a wen mac Dauntlass for Christmas in 59, started it up in the basement later that day .boy was it smokey down there with the engine running.I built a lil bibe c/l with cox babe bee in 65 and was hooked, drooled over all the c/l and r/c kits in aam .started r/c in 1970 after 2 years of cutting lawns at $5 per .hate to think how many that was to buy the new Kraft series 70 set that year and a falcon 56.after running mccoy .35's,fox .36x's ,stallion .35's and torpedeos the OS .35 was like an instant break in. I still fly the Kraft radios and get funny looks at the field.all are narrow band am and fm and kept in top shape.I can also use my JR tx's [10x and 8103] with my fm setups.I don't consider these to be disposable like alot of fliers these dys.reminds me of the computer wars where everyone had to have the newest and fastest even tho what they had still did the job.I learned along time ago to trim everything mechanically and while I have some computer radios I rarely use the throw or trim adjustments or even model memmory.I get a kick at some of the questions and answers given in the beginners forum .there are alot of parrots repeating what they heard or read but have no experience themselves. I used to build heathkit servos as they were cheaper than factory Kraft units.Back then we engineered and designed solutions to the problems we encountered as there were not alot of commercial solutions available.
