RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part II
ORIGINAL: sgbfly Spiros, I can't help but think what a great base the $9 kit would be for a starting point in an fbl build. The frame is a easy to work on and like a v3 has a receiver tray that will shelter the 3-axis controller such as a Tarot ZYX very nicely. I don't think the frame would need modding to postiion the servos better as the gyro will take care of any non parrallel control rods. The rotor head would be ditched in favour of a bespoke fbl head. The $15 HK RJX clone is good imo so long as appropriate dampers and damper to bearing washers are used (not the flat faced washers in the kit). The tail might be a problem since the plastic cases do vibrate a bit. But if the plastic case is swapped for a Tarot Intergrative tail gearbox then it's much better and there is no need to replace the rest of the plastic tail grips and pitch mechanism. The only issue really is the cost of the gyro and some good digital servos to compliment it. Add to this that my favourite fbl conversion of the two that I have done is the $10 HK-450 which is almost identical to the LH-450, I'd encourage anyone to give some thought to using the $9 LH-450 as a starting point. Part of my motivation for upgrading the servo's on this heli was to keep this option open to me (although part of me also wants to keep a nice fb'd heli in the hangar). Simon
Hi Simon, Good to know the kit can be used as it is and can be upgraded to Sport or FBL as well. I mod the frame either for the stock head or the Sport head cause I have too many to waste. For every two frames I waste one, cut the elevator servo part and stuck it to the other. But as you said the FBL unit should take care of it. The good thing with me is I have patience and persistance, I won`t quit this hobby just like that. The bad thing is I don`t have an open space nearby, I get home tired from the job, and I`m married. But the worst thing (for having free time) is I have my little kid which I love so much and am happy I have him. I was told by friends that I won`t have a personal life after a baby, Brian told me too, and it is true. One bird I had started building three weeks ago is not finished yet. Well, I have bought many $9 kits that can use, some metal upgrades for the plastic head and some Sport heads . And some Sport complete tail units (two batches, one junk) , 1 Align Sport tail grips, 1 Tarot Sport tail grips, 2 Pro tail grips (as only the grips are useful to me), 3 metal V2 tail grips, and some V2 tail units. The problem is I can`t make it find free time to fly, so I can waste some and so I can go from FB to FBL. Although there are too many to waste that this may not happen, just upgrade sometime. But for me, my skill level, I think it would be too much to waste a set of more expensive servos among all the other parts in a crash. As you can see I have the gear to start and that`s even more sad for me. But I see it as a hobby. BTW, I received the PZ-15158A servos and they seem to work OK at the bench test with the GA-250 250Hz and 333Hz, LH GY520 (280Hz) and the HK401B DS mode. Not sure if they will last but I`ll run them @4.8V and see. It would be nice I could fly (skils and free time) , I would buy less and most probably I would go for your step by step FBL video guide, including the gear. Spiros

My favourite thing is that it looks EXACTLY the same as an MCPX except for the board. This could mean dirt cheap parts. Even if they don't last, I'll break 'em! Sorry for the excitement, but I couldn't resist!
Too expensive. I`m not interested to the radio and more enough the supplied radio is a very basic one. So it is actually more expensive than a BNF mCP X or than a Walkera Genius CP RTF (if you count you need a decent radio that Walkera has even better than the 9x). Too expensive, bad deal. I think they should reconsider their prices. They think the wrong way. You don`t sell thousands with this price. First the mcpx carbon fiber skids, now this.

There is someone, more than one some maybe, that will get this one at this price as the price does not matter if you`re the one. Once I paid 350€ for a PC CD-R, 350€ for a CPU (and upgraded a few times), 300€ for a graphics card with real time mpeg2 encoding (captruring), 350€ for 256MB PC150 SDRAM (bought from USA), etc... you see I wanted a high end PC for DV editing and such. I could wait though as PCs were not ready for this. Now... I am more than OK with a 35€ CPU, 30€ 4GB DDR2 (even with 2GB), 20€ GPU, etc They did not only get cheaper, I realised it is not worth to try doing more than what you can have easily. So if this system works and is useful then it will get cheaper by the time. I can wait. Two years ago I was not convinced about CPs. Too expensive and low performance even from branded costly components. This system except of cheaper it will get better by the time, if it makes it to be useful/needed.

Brian, you should scale that 500 and fly it at a field. The 500 can fly slower giving better approach of a scale helicopter. A multirotor would be better. But then there are too much to spend on it. Simon, I think I have missed some flights of yours. Soon. Roger, I don`t know if you`re willing to spend that much for a Quark or a Futaba GY520, but if you do then it should be a good choice, I think. But the GY520 you`ve been told here is the cheaper Leaderhobby GY520. One thing though, it will take ages to arrive as it will be mailed through Swiss Post. One esc and one Sport tail, different packages, took 40 days to arrive and still I don`t have them in my hands, as they arrived Friday afternoon and so I`ll get them by Monday... Maybe you could take a look if you find it locally or at USA. On the other hand the Spray & rescue fire truck arrived the next day here, from UK to Germany to Greece, with just £6 for a really big box as they put the original box into a protection box. That`s a speedy service, cheap too. All, the wind here stopped at last ! But the temp got raised too much ! And I have to complete the building of the bookcase - office furniture. So still no flying ! Have a great weekend, Spiros

RE: What is this v2.0, with pictures this time
It looks like a plastic version of the 450. The plastic head most probably uses a 3mm feathering shaft. The metal head and tail looks like it is an Esky Belt-CP one. I`m not 100% positive from the photos but it is not a Trex clone for sure. Still even if it is a Belt-CP head the feathering shaft may be Belt-CP or Belt-CP V2 type feathering shaft (different length). If you measure the feathering shaft length I can tell you if it is a V2 or not. The Belt-CP and V2 feathering shaft is 3mm and has bolts (threads) for a nut. I would suggest you buy a Trex 450 V2 head and tail such as this one. As the Belt-CP tail uses a different pitch belt and it will wear out soon the belt pulleys and/or the belt. So fit one Trex 450V2 clone head and tail you`ll be OK. And move the whole tail (edit) servo one hole to the bottom of the servo mounts, so the tail linkage is parallel to the tail boom. If it is needed you must make a hole of your own to the servo mounts.

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part II
Hi Simon, Well, I know what is the difference between servo types (analog/digital) and how much the fequency rate difference can be beneficial. I was the one (one of them) who told that 3-axis systems will need better servos with no slop as well. But I was hoping either suitable servos become cheaper in the future, which has not happend yet, or a 3-axis unit may be less demanding. I just read it works better with cheap servos than the ZYX. I can`t know if indeed it is. So that`s why I told "I have read" in my initial post about this. Sure I am not willing to test myself, spending a fortune for the unit just to hope I can use cheap servos. But this does not mean that anyone who has one already can`t test it if he likes. The beast X clone is promising though at this price. Not cheap but not so expensive to forget about it. If it works the same then it may be a good choice. If I`m not mistaken the Beast X can work as a tail gyro as well, so one who needs a gyro but wants to go FBL in the near future then it may be an even better choice. Hmm, the difference between Beast X and ZYX is that at the Beast X you can set any frequency rate at cyclic servos no matter the tail servo used (and its setting). While at the ZYX there are pre-set combinations that you must choose one from. Meaning that you can`t have analog cyclic along with a 333Hz tail servo setting, while in the Beast X you can. Never mind, it was just a food for thought. For those who have the time to spend on searching/reading if that`s true, to seek for it. I`m not so willing to go flybarless anyway... Maybe after a couple of years or more, when HXT900 will be HXT910 and good for FBL at the same price... I`m not in a rush, I must find first free time... Spiros

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part II
Phil, I understand what you`re saying but this is what I have read. The Beast X can work well with analog servos. So they say, I can`t know. I just took a look at Beast X manual (newest version). The default setting is 50Hz both for cyclic and tail servo. So no matter the servo plugged in it won`t be fried. Then you can choose other frequencies depending on the servo used. But as I read on the manual the biggest difference in servo type setting between the Beast X and the Tarot/Copter X is: a) you can choose the servo type (frequency rate) independently between the cyclic and tail servo. They are not tied together like in the Tarot/Copter X. b) you can set your own value in the servo type (frequency rate) rather than the fixed values of the Tarot/Copter X. If that`s true, it can work well even with analog servos, then it needs cheaper servos than the Tarot/Copter X unit. And if the clone works the same then this is good news for those who can`t afford a Beast X + 410M. It also makes maintaining (crash repairs) more affordable.

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part II
Yes, it does not make so much sense to buy a high cost unit so to fit cheapo servos, as one who has the money for it can have the money for the 410M (or better). That`s why I told about the clone. Well, I have read some posts mostly in another forum that say so, from users who run the copter this way.

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part II
I have read the BeastX can work very good with cheap analog servos so it seems it is a cheaper solution that the cheap Tarot/ CopterX unit. Still both unit/servo combination systems are expensive. If the BeastX clone works the same as the original one and if it gets a little cheaper than this, as it is expensive for a clone, then flybarless may become crash friendly (in the meaning of crash cost).

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part II
So, I received my last 450 Sport head. No, it`s not an Align one, neither a Tarot. I could buy 12x heads or 4x heads with those money, respectively. So I bought something between those, 8x 450 Sport head (got them at bargain price). They seem very good manufactured. Nicely spent money. I can have a daily crash with a Sport with no worry! So my 450 Sport cost less than a HK450GT. $9 ($23 now) kit 10€, Sport head 10€, Sport tail 6€, canopy 3€, blades 2.5€, ALZRC or Tarot paddles 1€, Tarot Sport tail blades 0.5€ -> total 33€ ($39.5) shipped. Roger, as you saw the LH GY520 is considered a decent gyro that will suit you. As with every gyro out there you have to get a servo that matches this gyro. A 280Hz capable refresh rate servo, such as a Futaba S9257, Align 520, 3DPRO DS9257MG, Emax ES9258, Emax 9257 (sorted by price). I would run all of them except of the Align at 4.8V (see mod). If you feel lucky you can try the HK15128A or the PZ-15128A as a cheaper solution. I don`t know if they can handle 280Hz though. I`m waiting some PZ-15128A to test. The LH GY520 can still be found in ebay at a nice price (once there was at a lower price) and I have got some of them through ebay, and got some through Leaderhobby as well but at promotional price (way lower than this). Now one thing about purchasing a Leaderhobby item through ebay or the shop itself. You must know it will delay to arrive. More than a month is something usual. The soonest must be 15-20 days or so. Except if you buy a lot of things and they use HK post than Swiss Post, which is a slow boat...

I don`t know what`s going wrong with the weather but this is not natural. The wind blows 5-7 Beaufort for more than two moths... and it is getting worse, blowing even at very early in the morning like 6am. Actually from January till now the wind has gone crazy. The birds are grounded even when I have an opportunity of free time and I am very disappointed. So I bought this car, and I hope he`s happy. I should had bought a car for me though... as I don`t see me ever flying with this wind... And I hate RC cars... well, not as much as boats but still don`t like them much. Edmund, my condolences for your teammate. Take care. Roger, I think you can`t know for sure with those Chinese stuff. One day they are good the other not. Most of the times every different batch has a change, either to the firmware or to the PCB components. My HK401B seems it does not like many servos but it may be faulty or just a "bad" batch. On the other hand I have got some Learderhobby GY520 and some Hobbyking GA-250 and it seems they are paired nicely with an ES9257 and a DS919MG respectively at least on the bench testing and hovering. I would go for the GY520 + ES9257

Hello there ! I see too much traffic there! That`s good ! I wish you fly more than post the weekend though. Edmund, I don`t know what I can do... The wind has not stopped yet, it`s going strong from January till now with just a month being OK... Obviously the mCPX can`t fly at 4- 5 Beaufort or if it can I can`t (I don`t want to). So, as Jonesy will see one day, even if I had one single free time then the wind stops me. Brian, I`m looking forward for the scale heli. It will be so nice ! I love scale ! Simon, the mCPX is a nice "toy". It looks like a fly but it is a little devil. You`ll love it as it is missing the size but it has the guts. As I have Esky chargers, PR301 chargers and an E-Flite B450 charger the batteries, any battery, can be charged at 4.18, 4.20, 4.15V respectively with each charger. I prefer 1C chaging and up to 1.2C. I just charge multiple batteries the same time, so I save time. Well, the 8 Euro motors did not arrived but I ordered some $10.5 You see I can`t fly but I can have a hobby ! Lots of them are waiting to be built. It is good I found all those bargains and that Euro was strong the period I bought the lots. Now I see the $10 kit, which got better (main & tail grip bearings and addition of flybar weights) at the $9 version (actually about $17 -$20 shipped) now is raised to $23 and it is also sold out (so one must get something else which is more expensive). Good I had bought many at 10 Euro average price (shipped).

Phil, imagine how relaxed I can be if the bird crashes. Not worried at all even if it wrecks the whole of it. I am only worried if I get hurt, that`s what I must improve, fly far away from it. And about little Spiros, when he will let me have my own free time. Wife is not a problem as long as I can afford them and they are so cheap I can. She only complaints about the storage room that is full of them. My wallet can afford wasting (not ever make use of them) 30x flybars. They cost as much as a pair of cheap fiber blades. Let them be here, they did not made my wallet empty but can make me be so relaxed. I could not afford wasting (crashing) a bird of yours though, it would be the last flight I would have as after a crash I could not replace all those parts. Anyway, I had said it in the past, if any of you ever visit Greece then you`re welcomed to fly a bird of mine with no worry.

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part II
Hi Edmund, It`s good you have the spares to fix the mCPX, isn`t it? Soon I`ll quit even looking for parts bargains. I know I have more than I`ll use, even if I keep them till little Spiros starts flying (not that this is my intention but if they are flyable then he will, I think). Now I need only some motors as the ones I ordered did not arrived and later some batteries - if I ever get the free time to fly that frequently. I don`t have mCPX parts except the tail set and a set of blades, as they cost and can`t store them, and I am afraid that in a year or so it may be difficult to find and a $200 bird may become grounded just cause a tiny spare part is missing. The bad thing is I don`t make use of it now that spares are widely available and its production is going strong. Shop? No. Anyone can order abroad and a shop is only good for those who can`t repair or set up the bird by themselves or don`t have the money to order more than a part (so the shipping cost is killing them). But then again if he does not have the money then you don`t want him as a customer... It is just that now the flybarred components (gyro, servo, head) are so cheap, so the spare parts. All the GY520 I got cost me 10 Euro each, when two years ago you needed a GY401 so to have a decent gyro at 10 times more the price... In a year or a couple of them the flybarless components and parts may become the same cheap, if there is something newer like a new generation. But this is a big change, from flybarred to flybarless, so the flybarred got too cheap. Who knows, maybe in the near future there will be cheap cyclic servos for FBL use. But now with this money you can build the whole bird... Maybe an FBL bird is nice and Brian now gets sick when he sees flybars but I`m positive he would choose an FB bird if he started now. Especially now that they are not only cheap but good too (better than two years ago). Go flying those birds! Spiros

Hi Oldfrog, I also have a DX6i and am happy with it. Nice radio overall (all needed features, weight, size, stick`s feeling, AA batteries, etc) The only downside is the 10 model memory. I can have only 8 450 Sport bound (plus mCPX and Belt-CP). I would like better a 20 model memory but then again nothing is enough for me! Hugh, nice looks! Brian, I know it will be more job to be done but I would first re-build the bird with the mods ready for the fuselage, test flight it, then install the fuselage itself. All, have a nice day, Spiros

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part II
Brian and Phil, Thanks! It was good that I could fly it than just hover. It was a first step. If I keep with this kind of progress, everytime a big step, I`ll fly it nicely soon. But if I keep with this kind of rare periodic stick time, every month, then I have many months till I will. This thing seems it handles some crashes ! I can`t find an open space with grass without having to drive. Have some great time there, Spiros

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part II
Hello there ! Being too busy with the family the last days. The wind has gone too strong lately that even if I wanted to try I was grounded. The last month the wind is going from 5 to 7 Beaufort... As I have bought dozens of components and parts I started building another 450, the fifth, but it is half ready after a week... I hope all those 450s I have will find a better weather. But at the morning the wind stopped for a little. So there it is ! My fourth or fifth attempt on the mCPX and I flew it ! It seems it is indeed a good trainer for a beginner as it doesn`t break. Hi Simon, Understood. It does not have the tendency to get back in neutral position and does not alter altitude by wind. So, after having those parts and 5 batteries I should get ready 4 $9 ($20 now) kits and get some stick time in flying practice than hovering. I hope one bird makes it for two batteries. At least driving there it will worth it than just a few minutes of practice. I`m sure I`ll crash some. Spiros

RE: Trex 450 bolts
Buy a better Allen wrench. Most of the times it is the tool that is bad than the bolts. Also a very small size difference is too critical in this small sized bolts. An Allen wrench that has a play inside the bolt will strip itself if it is not a good quality one or it will strip the bolt and that`s a rule. Now if you have a good quality and proper sized Allen wrench then you can buy better bolts if there is problem to them.

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part II
@Jonesy Ahh, yes. I do have understood it would be easier as it would also be if I had all the parts at perfect quality so I don`t have the need to check if something of the hardware is wrong but focus only in the setup and the flying. But I hope my gear is enough good to have fun, knowing it is not the best around but some of them are too good for the money spent. The mCPX is really a nice piece. You can have fun, worry a little and carry it everywhere. I`m happy I listened to your thoughts about it. Plus the bird itself and its spares take no room at the house. @Simon Well, I laughed a lot! Took it with good sense of houmor. Hmm, if I had something more to ask, know about, is what is the difference of the stick input between the two so to make the bird going FF and when you want to stop it.

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part II
ORIGINAL: ahamay A flybared heli is a flybared heli...whether it's a clone or a Trex makes no difference when your comparing 3 axis gyros with a single axis gyro. The flight difference between the two has to be seen to be believed. If you have been able to fly both you'll understand what I"mn talking about. Sure there is room for error in the setup as is the case with a flybared heli but I can tell you I'd rather be playing with a software setting than stuffing round with a mechanical setup. Jonesy
That`s a big advantage. But I was not referring to advantages and disadvantages. Sure there are many. All I said that going from a very basic model and with some problems to a high cost one, with no problems as else it can`t fly anyway, the comparison is not that fair. The same advantages and disadvantages would be present to both but the feeling of the difference could be different. Maybe it was a mistake to ask about it. As most of you have not gone from a V2 to a Sport or Pro and the same time you have invested a fortune to the FBL upgrade, so the excitement is bigger. Anyway, even if I understand the advantages I find it expensive. So I`ll just learn on what thousands have learned, an FB. If they did I can. And I can hope I am more lucky to have a better platform than they had , as for example piezo gyro without endpoints + analog servo. Plus I`ll have the Sport one, but first I`ll use the V2. They have even learned on a Belt-CP V2, which is difficult to set up especially if you have the stock Tx, or even learned on a smaller size, as a 250 or a King.
