RE: I am depressed!
ORIGINAL: OliverJacob Would be great if they would employ some modellers. Not so around here. They find some cheap labor, someone who does not have a real job or a kid and they can't afford the hobby. Most online stores here do have their own warehouse, employees, insurance and all the costs. Property taxes or rent might be lower since they don't have to be in a popular location. Some are in a dense area and still be cheaper then anybody else. Like Value Hobby - located close to Chicago sells a 60 size Stick plane for $88. The LHS has the same plane with the Great Planes label for $199. I am ok with paying some extra $ to get my part right away. I payed $8 for a 6'' servo extension, because I needed one. I can get the same from China for 30 cents - no difference in the quality at all. The Problem is the selection you get there. No fuel line? 4-40 push rods, but only 2-56 links and no 2-56 rods? give me a break, that list goes on and on. So no, I am not happy with this LHS. I do not need anybodys help there, I know which parts I need. I went to Milwaukee the other day and it was even worse - just looking for some covering at Hobbytown USA. They had a whopping selection of 5 rolls, nothing popular of course. 2X Orange,2X Green and Yellow - no , you can't have every part someone is looking for, but this is just a joke. Now with my 18+ airplans from 1/2 a to giant scale, I have all the standard parts in my hobby room. I bet I have a better selection then my LHS. Too bad for their business, but I just get my things online, pay for the shipping and wait a week or two. I hope most of your have more luck with your LHS. Another problem is the recent hike in prices on arfs and kits. I just got an elder kit, this one sells now for $119 retail at Tower or Hobby shops. It's a box of sticks, no tank, wheels, pilot, gun or other little details you see on the box. So adding up all the little things, covering, paint, glue you are getting close to $200. You can buy an 40 size arf for half that price, which is mostly assembled and someone else did a perfect covering job. But thats a different story. Our Hobby shop owners don't do a good job of finding better suppliers, nor do they ever show up on any flying events. They could sell tons of parts and planes there and could get a better relationship to the local fliers. On these events you'll meet a ton of spectators, you could easily talk some of them into buying a model right there.
Hobbytown is nothing more than a toy store, and they hire morons, I had a sales person argue with me that there are no such things as 4-40 clevices, I HAD TO OPEN A DU-BRO BROCHURE RIGHT ON HIS COUNTER TO SHOW HIM.-FORNICATE HOBBYTOWNS!

RE: FPE 2.4 Ridge Ignition
ORIGINAL: Tony Hallo
ORIGINAL: Truckracer
ORIGINAL: STUKA BARRY If you have any doubts, just replace the ignition with a bullet proof RCXcell ignition, its cheap insurance.
The older 2.4 FPE will thank you if you install a new ignition that has an advance curve. You simply can't go wrong with the RCexl as Stuka suggested! The engine will start easier, idle slower and have more top end power than when equipped with the Ridge ignition. The Ridge ignition had fixed timing that was a compromise between ease of starting and acceptable power output ..... so neither end of the performance spectrum was great. FPE had the CH ignition as an expensive option when the Ridge ignition was used. Though the CH is no longer available the RCexl is an excellent performing copy.
Can't speak for the FPE 2.4 ignition, but I would not trade the ignition in my D&B engine for any Rcexl, CH or DAÂ unit.
I have a D&B 5.1 since 2003 and the Ridge ign. (Reichmuth) hasn't missed a beat ever, so don't be so quick to judge, you may need to look at your installation.
ORIGINAL: Red Raider I too was an Amsoil dealer. I had 2 brand new CRRC 26s on a Nosen 310. Took it to the field to run in the engines. I had been told that at 100:1 the engines would be fine. BS. In the first 5 minutes I had wrecked the bearings in one of the engines, and nearly torched the other. After $175 to rebuild the trashed engine, not to mention putting off the maiden flight of my new plane for a month, I dropped my dealership, and never recommend to anyone that they try to use Amsoil, or any other oil for that matter at any mixture less than 32:1. Having said that, I get 12,000 miles between oil changes in my powerstroke diesel pickup using Amsoil synthetic motor oil. It is just not possible to use that lean of a mixture no matter how good the oil. And no matter who tries to tell you. RE: DLE 20 idol problem
ORIGINAL: bikerbc  I have a DLE 20 on a 120 spacewalker..The problem I am having is that when I try to idol it down it stays on a high idol for about 20 seconds before it really hits a low idol..It is definitely closing the butterfly completly so I cant understand how its doing this..It makes it difficult to land..Even if I shut it down early and bring it in if I need a bit of throtle I am reluctant to use it because it cant shut it back down..I end up using the whole runway or going around and around. I have the low speed set so that if I close it any more when I throtle up it hesitates..I opened it a wee bit from there..I wasa tiny bit rich on the top but I have leaned it out and it hasent helped at all. It still will not idol down properly..It is a very high idol too..Enough that you cant land ...Other than that the DLE 20 has lots of power and pulls the spacewalker around fine..They are very powerfull little engines... Hey mustangman, sorry to see all the extra work you need to do, too bad the manufacturer's not as dilligent as you are. You seem to have the situation at hand but don't second guess anything, especially stress points. bathtub caulk in the squeeze tube will work wonders blending in that dorsal fin, but you're going to need paint. And there's no excuse for those cowl lines, that would drive me crazy because it's noticable.

RE: Gasoline Clunk tube?
ORIGINAL: michajon Try this, its clear, stays flexible and its only about twenty eight cents a foot. I'm switching over to it, a friend of mine runs it with no problems. Here's the scoop from the manufacture, Tygothane® Formulation C-210-A Our rigidly controlled manufacturing process makes Tygothane® Precision Polyurethane Tubing the flexible polyurethane tubing that has consistently tight tolerances from lot to lot. Precision tolerances and high elasticity provide the user with an easy, worry-free attachment to fittings. Made of a tough, ester-based polyurethane, Tygothane Precision Polyurethane Tubing's clarity, high tear strength and excellent abrasion resistance make it ideal for many applications, including fuel and lubricant lines, pneumatic lines, abrasive product transfer and cable jacketing. It also offers exceptional resistance to oils, greases, fuels and many chemicals. Able to withstand rugged daily use, Tygothane® Precision Polyurethane Tubing resists weathering and can be safely used in temperatures ranging from -100°F (-73°C) to 200°F (93°C). It meets FDA criteria for food and beverage use and is also available in ether-based, medical grade and reinforced formulations.
I orderd Tygothane from US Plastics about 2 years ago and the stuff is bulletproof! nothing affects it, the only problem I see is, it isn't flexible enough to be used inside a tank, Regardless of the fitting you put it on? prepare to have to cut it off, it holds like nothing else I've seen.

RE: Gasoline Clunk tube?
ORIGINAL: MetallicaJunkie
ORIGINAL: karolh Can't say that I would blame that crash on the tank's clunk, as that sort of flying requires special needs, and having a proper length clunk would in my opinion be one of those needs, plus in a transparent tank the obviously short original clunk line was there for all to see. Karol
true good point there... he called the shop he ordered it from and they assured him that it was normal... i read on F G about those tanks,, apparently several people have complained about that issue, and also the cap being glued on.... the bottle is made of such thin plastic hardly any force can be applied with out ruining it
The shop told him it was normal? and he believed it? Why wasn't he thinking along the lines of possible low fuel and a hover, it's not rocket surgery:) or maybe it is. I say stick to what you know works, not some guy telling you a short lined clunk is normal. I'm not flaming here but your clunk needs to be just kissing the bottom of the tank when vertical, this doesn't even need explaining. It's like if you bought a 35% ARF and it came with a cardbord wing tube, the manufacturer tells you it fine, do you believe him?
a1pcfixer, Have you personally experienced this or are you just repeating the conventional wisdom on this matter. Several years ago on the first really cold day of the winter the clunk in my plane stopped clunking, it was stiff as a board (tygon). I had some of the Dubro neoprene in my drawer so I cut off several inches and placed it in a jar of my fuel. After five weeks it was still like new so I replaced the clunks in both of my 50 cc planes. It is now 2+ years later and I have not seen any sign of deterioration, no problems of any kind. Maybe the ethanol in Oregon is not as potent as the stuff in you area..........RJ
