RE: rc4wd vs axial
The Dingo kit also has a shorter wheelbase than the Honcho or the Jeep. As posted above, the rtr's aren't much more than the kits, but the kits come with alloy lower and steering links and different (softer) tires and wheels. On the downside the Dingo has the same crappy shocks as the rtr's. The Jeep kit has alloy links (lower/steering) and sweet $80 Icon Shocks, but the Jeep kit is almost as much as a Honcho rtr. If you have electronics on hand and want to build a kit, go for it. To me half the reward of owning a scaler/crawlers is the fact that you built it yourself, which to me is part of the experience. Plus you don't have to worry if its built right. If you plan to modify or run aftermarket parts, you can install they when you build rather than tear an rtr apart to add your personal touch. Either way Axial makes a fine quality product and as Foxy mentioned above, they hold their resale value better than most vehicles in their class. You get a ton of money into a RC4WD rig and decide its not for you, you will not be able to get as much of your investment back. Best of luck with whatever you choose, they are all great fun! Happy Trails, Jay

RE: 1/5 scaler...hehe
That looks sweet! I have been out of town for work, will get some pics for comparison of the max stone and mad torque. I have been trying to decide to make the IH cxt body into a huge 4x4 scaler or make it into a 6x6 scale wrecker. If I go the 6x6 route I'd like to buy a body like the one you have pictured for the max stone crawler, it has a 19" w/b what do they go for? and do you sell them? I will post some pics asap maybe you can help me decide. I have the rc4wd mil-spec tires and crawler king axles to make the 6x6. I think a full scaler chassis would be nice and only a few more steps than adding frame rails to the crawler chassis. lmk if you need any materials or custom machine work. I have a fully stocked machine shop and lots of 6061-T6 material. Looking good, keep posting pics! Jay

RE: 1/5 scaler...hehe
Hi, These are nice crawlers for the money. I have the mad torque (the one you have) and the Max stone 1/8. They call them both 1/8 scale, but the Max stone is way bigger 1/5 scale, and has bigger links 3/16" and a four link set up without the Wye upper link. The wheelbase is 19" and the tires are 7" tall mil-spec type tread. I plan on making the Max stone into a 1/5 scaler using the International CXT hardbody I bought from you. The wheelbase and width is exact. The mad torque is a better crawler though. It has better crawling tires and a lower center of gravity. The quality is impressive for the price. I will post side by side pics of both. We could make this into a nice build thread. I am interested to see how yours turns out. I think I am going to make a ladder type truck chassis for the max stone. Good luck on your build and have a good one. Jay

RE: Traxxas Summit
You might try plugging the suspect servo into a reciever channel that you know a servo is working on. Steering, diff lock etc. If the servo works then you know you need to dry your rx (if moist) or you will know for sure the servo is toasted. Once in a while they can fool you. I've replaced servos, plugged them into something else later and they work. lol you put that truck through it's paces. You might not want to put the tires in the sink this time (she would know). Thanks for the muddin pics, looks like it was getting heavy. Jay

All tower lists are the clear ones: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXWWD9&P=7 no sign of the pro graphix ones yet.. $26 for the clear shell. I am going to draw up a conversion body mounts for use with any 3.3 revo body. My neighbor has the F-250 super duty proline 3.3 body on his and it is sweet. The truck bodies look very nice on the summit, but you lose the advantage (and cool factor) of the exo roll cage. Have a good one, Jay

That is strange, kind of a in between model. I caught mine on sale at tower with a $50 discount and free shipping it was $435. I see they have all three versions on towers site. (three different prices anyway). If they put out a VXL model it would be 1k? It would cost $1,100 to drop a castle system into it (Truck+MMM system) ouch! Jay

Stuball, I have the 2.4 version (2011) bought it two months ago. I don't know of if there are any differences other than the ones you stated, but I can say the 2011 version is great. A new body shell and two lvc units is a lot cheaper IMO. You will have a blast. Not the fastest thing on the shelf but definately the most versatile all around. Best of luck with your new purchase! I bought a pair $62 to the door. They are the exact same size in every way as the stock power stick 7 cell batts. except weight lol they weight about a third as much. Thats a lot of battery for under $70 shipped for a pair. They have great power and very long run times with the stock set up. That was the only upgrade mine has seen (so far) Jay

RE: Traxxas Summit
It definately is a must to water protect your equipment. I am sticking with the brushed set up because it is smooth as slow speeds/rpm and for my application the stock set up will lose traction before losing power. I have other brushless models for speed. I originally wanted to just buy a plow and all I found was one for the T-maxx that looks like a thin gauge sheet metal blade crimped at the top so it don't fold the first time you hit a chunk of ice (in theory) and has little airplane landing looking wheels for skids. The other one is $180.00 and has buggy shocks for trip springs and no lateral support (side force). Up until lately I have been designing/producing helicopter parts, now my kids are getting old enough for rc I am pretty much switching over to surface equipment and spending less time at the airfield. Don't let the MRS catch you washing truck parts in the sink, they don't like that. Ask me how I know lol. Your summit body is sweet with the trx graphics, did you buy it that way? Have a good one, Jay

RE: Traxxas Summit
Hi, I have a summit and I'm going to keep the stock brushed set up for what I need. Lipo's are all it's getting for a while. I am working on a plow system for it. With the stock locking diffs and low gearing I figured it would make a great candidate for a plow truck. I will post pictures of my progress. Who knows maybe I will make a couple of extra units. It is a very scale design and the blade lift servo is hidden under the winch in the body (the servo mount replaces the plastic hoop bumper stand off). Anyway I subscirbed to this thread and I'm looking forward to talking about summits with you folks. Take care, Jay

I been ordering stuff from stormer for years with great luck. They have a lot of hard to find parts as well. My LHS burned down last winter. No track or racing this summer, so more heli time for me. I buy 98% of my heli equipment online. Happy Landings, Jay

That looks pretty sweet.. I can't find one from my usual walkera dealers. Maybe wowhobbies will stock them soon. Bent wrench, we are glad to have you back in the hobby. These helicopters have come a long way in the last few years. Walkera has really stepped up their game. The two I have seem like a very good value for the price. Best of luck flying your heli, it sounds like your doing great! Happy hovering, Jay

RE: US Walkera Dealers
I have had great luck with wowhobbies, they seem to carry more parts. For kits I use heli direct (the kits and shipping are both cheaper) but they don't carry the parts near as well as wowhobbies. Never tried rcandme, sounds like a great place to buy. A little customer service really means a lot these days..

RE: Walkera Lama 400
Hi, RickVS, Sounds like you got a bad mixing board for it to not work at all. I hope it all works out for you. Please let us know. I bought the 400D because the landing gear looks kind of weak on the scale model and have heard a lot of horror stories about them showing up cracked. It is a very nice scale ship with the lights and all. My son flies mine so I went for the one with the tougher looking skids. Sven, Nice video! That is a good example of how smooth the 400 hovers. I know it had to be moving the air around in that room. I really noticed how well the little gyro works on these helis. I was doing some big circles and figure eights while rotating front to back, let go of the stick and it pops right straight and hovers. I mostly use the 401 Futaba on my big birds and I was really suprised how hard you can push this coax heli. I am going to mount a camera on mine and I will post some video of my neighborhood. The camera and mount will be here any day from HK. Speaking of HK, have you ordered from the DE warehouse yet? The usa Warehouse is open. I ordered a HKGT500 and turns out they are in Lakewood Washington about 200 miles from me. A 500 class that is pretty close knock off to my Trex 500 to my door for $84.96 and came pretty as a picture, without a scratch. At that price I feel way more comfortable pushing my skills than my $400.00 Trex. I can replace the kit for the price of a align tailboom. I ordered it tuesday morning and had it before noon thursday $7.00 for priority shipping! I hope your having the same luck with the DE warehouse.. Take care and happy hovering, Jay

RE: Walkera Lama 400
Hi, My kids are getting old enough to take an interest in the hobby. Bought a blade mini cx and MSR for playing inside. My son started flying the MCX and now has no problems hovering around his older sister. Anyway I bought a Lama 400D and an esky outdoor Lama (400). Having never looked at either heli. They are two completely different birds. The Walkera is +/- $70 more and worth every penney of it. Has an actual frame set that would make a lot of CP heli's jealous. Very thought out in design layout and finish. The battery snaps into a compartment and is almost twice as big 1500mah vs 800mah both 3s. It is a bit heavier than the esky and the blades are thinner. This sounds bad, but is better for the same reason; Wind penatration. The 400D will hang in a breeze way better than the BOL. The thinner blades tend to resist the kite effect. It still does it, just holds it's own a little better. Mine came with the 2402 radio. This is a very nice radio. I just wish I had the version with dual rates (the new ones have them). Hovered hands off right out of the box. In my opinion a great rc value for under $200. Please don't think I am bashing the esky BOL, it is a nifty little heli and my kids have a blast with it. I keep the 400D up on the "don't touch" shelf lol. I would really like to talk with you folks about this heli, and who knows maybe we can get a thread going? Let's hope! Happy hovering, Jay

RE: Losi XXX4 G+ Castle combo question..
Thank you sheograth. I went out to the track this weekend and the tenth scale buggy guys where happy to show off there set ups. They are (for the most part) running the C36-7700 motor. It is a huge eighth scale track and carries a lot of speed. Castle claims the 9900 motor will turn over 100,000 rpm no problem, but for how long? I'm not really stuck on combos, but if it saves a few bucks, even better! Thank you all very much for your replies, Jay

Losi XXX4 G+ Castle combo question..
Hi, I recently got a deal on a XXX4 graphite plus, brand new kit. Well now I am motor/esc shopping and I have narrowed it down to the ccmm pro combo and I am stuck on what KV motor to run in this car. Can someone tell me what the sweet spot is for this application? I want it to be fast as possible for a big track and speed passes in the street. Is the 9000kv motor to fast? I know if they are to fast you have to gear them down which kinda defeats the purpose. I am thinking maybe the 7700 system? Second question is regarding the battery holder. Will it hold a 5000mah 2s1p LiPo? Does anyone know the battery holder/tray dimensions? The car hasn't got here yet, and I was just trying to have my ducks in a row when it arrives. I had the XX4 before and they are nice kits to build, I am looking forward to it. It is a sealed kit with an extra custom painted body. Any help is much apreciated. Thank you kindly, Jay

He said that he would replace the 2650 with a 2200kv if I have any problems running 6s. I have two castle 2200kv systems, no stranger to EDS (exploding drivetrain syndrome) I have yet to use the 2650 motor and just wondered if anyone had had any experience with it. Andy from HPI said they have been testing/running it on 6s in the flux mt and have had no problems. He did say they had to gear it down quite a bit. Thank you for your input. HPI/Castle Tork Motor question.
Hi, I recently bought a Flux/Blur esc and ordered a Tork 2200kv motor from Amain hobbies. Well the motor came and I opened it up and it had a Tork 2650kv motor. Someone at HPI put the wrong motor in the right box. So I call amain (They have amazing customer service) The kind lady told me I could return it, but wanted me to call HPI. I called Andy at HPI and he said I can swap you out, but the 2650 is a better motor. It only specifies 4s use and I need a 6s capable motor. He assured me that the 2650 is a monster on 6s and If I had any problem running 6s he would swap it out, no questions asked. Should I keep the 2650 or get the 2200? It is for a LST conversion. Thank you kindly in advance, Jay

Thank you for the fast reply RC18. You helped me before regarding an 1/8 scale drift car. I have the car and now I am motor shopping. Is the Monster set up to much for drifting? I have a new HV 5.5 Pro That might be more suitable. The guy at my lhs offered me the HPI for $100 with the motor is $50 less than a MMM combo from Amain hobbies. Does someone else have the castle system cheaper? Sorry for the silly questions, but i figured You would be a great person to ask. Thank you, Jay
