RE: advice for motor choice mick reeves spitfire scale 1/4
Its all down to the gearing, 33inch prop, at scale revs, would you believe, but sorry, we have drifted apart, not seen him for a while, and no longer have contact details, but the UK dawn patrol uses this set up quite a lot, they can be found on the UK RCMF forum

RE: World Models ZERO GS
Such a large motor would not be my choice, mine flys well with a zenoah 38, more is a waste, but, if its all you have, then go for it, but i think there will not be a lot of cowl left, and the bulkhead will need beefing up,

RE: Zenoah G62 electronic ignition conversion???!
Once i was shown myself, the next one to start it was not me, it was my then 13 yr old son, it has to be set up, but its moments of a job, if he wants to know, i am here, reason i am offering this is simple, i have seen too many electronic modules pack in, the most i would do is fit a TONY CLARK booster to it, these consist of a lead and socket thats mounted on the engine, and a booster box, these are very handy for a model with a big radial cowl, i have, with these units started the engine from BEHIND the prop, they are fitted as standard to the Zenoah 80 twin, but with twin leads, of coarse and to be honest, the atraction of gas engines is no starters, just a can of fuel, a transmitter, and the model,

RE: Zenoah G62 electronic ignition conversion???!
THUNDERBOLT, yes, he has asked for an ignition idea, but i have asked him if he needs pointers to start it manually, its up to him to go one way or the other, its quite common for a Z62 owner to not be abale to hand start these engines, but i can, i have sold all my boosters, and spring starters, i simply no longer need them,

70th Anniversary of the dambusters raid
An iconic anniversary of the accomplishments of an iconic squadron, in all the raids of the war, this was up there with the most daring, it was not long before the dams were rebuilt, months in fact, but the amount of labour, soldiers, materials, it took up, both on the reconstruction, and the upgraded defence, saved many lives from other theatres, even Albert Speer said it was a disaster for the the much heralded 3rd reich, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22549964 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22554314 there are severeral raids of the war that gave the alled nations a shot in the arm, the doolittle raid, the amiens prison raid, and this one, there must be many more pivotal raids that went beyond mere carpet bombing, In these 2 BBC videos, the dam they are flying over is the very same that was practised on in the war, 617 was a squadron full of medal ribbons on proud chests, the best of the elite, they did 3 things on this raid that make you blink, they flew at 100 foot height ALL the way from Scampton, even flying under power lines, but these did claim some aircraft and crews, AND 60 foot on the bomb run, and showed search lights, 2 shining down, when they overlap, bomb gone, 53 brave souls lost their lives that night, and many others in the waters path where washed away, war is terrible, but, it was just the shot in the arm my country needed, my father worked on the conversion of the 617 dam busting lancs, he told me many stories, i wish he was still around to see this anniversary, to all veterans of war, god bless

RE: Full scale Albatros test
we have just had built by those genius aviators iin NZ, a RE8, and an Albatross dva, they will do a few flights at shows, but the intent is to add them to the WW1 collection at the Hendon RAF museum, they will never fly again, along with them will be a Sopwith Snipe, very original, but unflown since its can fly rebuild, shoving airworthy planes into the museum is not an unsual thing, ME109 Buchon, after being bent at Duxford, was rebuilt to flying condition, then shoved into the museum, there is also a B17 in there, thats was flying until it gotyes, you guessed it, shoved into the museum, ah well, least they are safe

VERY nice B24, and a rather overjoyed pilot and crew, very nice vid, while we are on nice B24Libs, one of our guys moved over to the colonies a while ago, he took with him a large Lib, powered by 4xzenoah 45s, it was all covered in polished litho plate, has anyone seen anything of it?

RE: The Bosses Vulcan
Shes a Delta, Another fact about her, we have one flying in private hands, its a british icon, and very well loved, after her multi million rebuild, and constant swallowing funds, she continues to grace our skies, this weekend is the Vulcans 60th anniversary, she will be flying both days at a local airshow, then, on sunday, while making her way home, she will be doing low level flypasts at her 2 birthplaces, Chadderton, & Woodford, guess who will be at the side of the runway!!!!!!!! CANT WAIT, imagine a B52 in private hands??? even though the only bombs she dropped in anger where iron bombs, on the falklands, she has been a deterrant for all this time, many are preserved in museums, some even breath fire with fast taxi runs, there where three V bombers, the Vulcan, Victor, and the Valiant, Valiant had an early demise, developing metal fatigue in the wing box, we have all three preserved in the cold war museum, at RAF Cosford, well worth a google

The Bosses Vulcan
Chairman of our Large Model Association has just test flown his superb 20% scale Vulcan bomber, it was flown at the historic airfield where the full size was finish assembled, and test flown Woodford is also the birthplace of such legends as the Lancaster, Shacklton, and a few airliners, and a lot more besides, it was recently sold to a heritage group, and they have good intentions for the site, We are blessed to be allowed to fly on this site, Just a word about how these large models work, over 42lb, they have to be examined by qualified examiners at various stages of the build, then test flown for 6 flights, where the envelope is explored,(they are flown as they will be flown in shows) super size models, like the Vulcan, have to do 12 flights, this video is its 6th, the model is in the markings of the resident Vulcan, XM603, this is purely a static full size, and is to undergo re-furbishment (washed) i hope you enjoy the size of this model, it is in every way, just like the full size, span is 21foot, and it has 4 turbines there is a build thread of this awsome model on the LMA site, where you will also see more pictures of this model, by the waY, its a KIT FULLY LASER CUT, surely one for the guiness book of records? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqbEVH8L0Eg&feature=youtu.be

RE: Balsa USA 1/3 scale Sopwith Pup
several are flwon over here by our Dawn Patrol members, i dont know what they weigh, but i can find out after this weekend, but with all that wing area, i would not worry too much whatever it weighs, the things like a box kite, and for me,the heavier (within reason) the better, one thing i will mention, i have seen three fold up now, because the flying wires pulled out, they are standard metal quick links, into a piece of metal with a hole in (what a crap description from an engineer) the hole, on examination, had worn, make sure you have keepers on, or find a more substantial fitting, they do fail, bear in mind, the DPs ones are show aircraft, and have flown in quite a wind sometimes, but they do look well, power has been, would you believe, a zenoah 38 in a reduction drive, driving a scale size prop, at scale revs,

RE: Kyosho Ta 152H 90-120 size
LOVED mine to bits, literally, i was warned by the previous owner, that is did not like high winds, i took it off in a high wind that was blowing right down the strip, lifted off, one wing went up quicker than a quick thing, i threw in the controls, too late, it was all over in a nano second, considering the smack it got, i got away light, bottom spars gone, top spar is cracked, but the entire top detail and sheet is intact, tail ripped off on one side, entire engine bulkhead gone, and cowl got a bash, normally i would give such a model away, but its SUCH a good machine, it will be repaired, lower inner wing damage will be repaired, and about a 10x4 piece of balsa sheet will be replaced, covered in tex, painted duck egg green, and the detail penned on, it will never be good as new, but it will be my everyday hack, power is an OS 120 Surpass E, with this motor, its ballistic, and way beyond scale speed, after every session, the covering is inspected, here and there its lifted, just a bit of clearcoat, and a hot iron, its down, mine flies with the stock mechanical retracts, and is no trouble at all, they will be going back in, mine also had the stock hinges, never any trouble, and, for that matter, it had stock everything, its now had, with me, about 40 flights, i love the thing, and was mortified with myself for being an idiot, anyone fancying one, dont think twice, its a keeper

just as a matter of interest, i dont know how you guys get your fields, over here, we knock on a farmers front door, and rent some land, our national body does not provide fields, neither does our local council, we get together, rent the field, affiliate to our national body, the British Model Flying Association, and start a club, if there is land there, can you not do similar? just interested,
