lightning wearing engine screws
Question for other lightning owners: Just driving my lightning around on my street, small bumps or even inclines seem to make it bottom out a bit, which is no big deal, but the engine mount screws are getting worn down every run to the point that I have to cut a notch with a dremel to take them out with a flat head. If it was something I had to do once every year or something I wouldn't care, but it is closer to every tank. If anyone has anything figured out to raise it up a bit or something I would love to hear it. Thanks!

RE: volcano fuel line issue
Sure you can ziptie it and get by, but it really is a design flaw. I have to check mine every run to make sure that the fuel line is not creeping around, because creeping millimeters is literally enough, plus it has to almost kink the line to make it not hit the spur. My lightning has more of a plastic hood over the gears, and that makes it much better.

RE: .18 cxp
OK, I will go ahead with the ERP. I just thought $35 sounded like a good deal for a spare engine. I feel bad sending in the .16 though. It has been a great engine, I just like power too much. :) Will the .18 SH have more top end, or will it be mostly low end/torque? Just curious, because as is, the .16 destroys tires off the line. Plenty of low end. :)

RE: .18 cxp
OK, thanks, I assume this is just a generic image then? http://www.hobbypartz.com/18enfor1scrc.html the one I was looking at has a different styled head, but otherwise looked similar, thought maybe they just rebrand them. http://www.rc-tradingpost.com/fmt-18-engine.html Anyone have experience with the CXP? Good/Bad?

.18 cxp
Does anyone know off hand if the .18 CXP is the same thing as the .18 VX? That is the way it looks to me, but a different cooling head... I am just trying to decide if I should spend the $35 to upgrade the .16 vx for my Lightning? I will still probably send the .16 in for EEP, but it never hurts to have a spare. :)

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
No problem at all. Buying 4 screws at my LHS costs about that much, so at least I have something to show for it. :) I appreciate the help though, that site will be very useful, and I had no idea what the thread size was.

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
I ordered 100 of 2 of the types of screws linked above, and they shipped very quickly, unfortunately they are all too long. :( Thread size is right though, so I guess I just need to keep looking. If anyone needs $13 worth of m3 screws and washers let me know. :) Edit: placed another order for 8mm length. The ones I ordered previously were all 12mm.

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
Thank you very much! I ordered some screws. I appreciate the help! As for the steering, I don't think it is the servo saver, because even with it tightened all the way down, it doesn't want to turn, and my servo horn broke because it pushed so hard but wasn't able to move anything. By hand it seems to turn OK when disconnected from the servo, but maybe I am just not sure how it should feel. I am quickly getting used to how easily everything seems to work on my Lightning. :)

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
I have been having a problem with stripping and breaking the screws going through the chassis in to the engine mount. I would like to replace them with stainless hex if I can find them. Does anyone know what size they are off hand, or where I could find something like that? Also, having some steering problems. The servo is pushing but something isn't letting it turn far. Seems to be happening since I installed aluminum arms. I tried loosening the ball screws in the joint, but that doesn't seem to help. Any ideas of what to try would be appreciated. Thanks!

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Might check how tightly your drive cups are pushed on too. If they are pressed right up against the housing it creates friction.

RE: 2 speed transmission help
Thank you Derek. I appreciate the advice. I gave it a try, it was actually still at factory settings, but I checked that again, and tried to tune it, but it just didn't want to move. Finally I realized that the mesh was set way too tight. I had left the motor mounted each time I pulled the trans too. I set the mesh with paper on the second gear, which was a mistake, so the first gear was way too tight and wouldn't allow it to turn. I now set the mesh on both gears, which both have to mesh with the clutch bell, unlike many of the other 2 speeds. Anyway, another break-in tank in, one more and I can let it rip. [:D]

2 speed transmission help
I am working on a Redcat Lightning and am running in to some problems. The second gear was missing a tooth, so I took apart the transmission and replaced it and re-meshed. I noticed that the car would only roll forward. I assume this is due to the one way bearing on first gear. I started the car and it idles fine, but the second I touch the throttle it died. I assumed that the OWB must be on wrong, so I flipped it around. Now it rolls only backwards, and stalls the second I touch throttle. I have no idea what I did to this thing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

RE: what do you all think? faulty volcano t2
ORIGINAL: redlineautomotive3 i just purchased the volcano T2..right out of the box the left front lower a arm pin wasnt in all the way so the a arm was poped out..so i fixed it.. did the break in ect..took it for the first drive made it about 50ft and chucked the front drive shaft seems like its to short..so i loosened the coupler on the tcase and slid it ahead a bit.. and went for another drive didnt fall out. but still has alot of play i dont trust it..also crashed my truck and broke upper arm brace and cant find one on web site. the truck steers good left but not good right the survo doesnt seem to have any power bolth ways..so the crash was my fault..should have made sure the truck was steering right before i opened it up..other then that im happy with the truck its verry fast...but i do need part #01007 A arm plate. if any one can help the rest of the parts i found on the web site
Does this look like what you need? RE: RE:
I got mine from the B&S forum here, unused, but no box. It was missing some of the things that should have come with it, one of those things was body pins, so I had no idea how many it was supposed to come with. I did see a picture where someone had what looked to be like fuel line stretched over the posts, wasn't sure if that is what I should be doing. The pins already seem to be scratching the paint from under the body. Sorry if it was a dumb question.

RE: RE:
I got a Lightning STR out of the B&S here, got the first two tanks of the break in through, and checking everything before the next run I noticed that the mesh was off, barely catching actually. It doesn't look like the engine moved, but it must have. Is there a good way to set the mesh on these? I had a really hard time feeding paper in to it the first time because you can't actually see where they mesh. Also, total on road newb question: Do you use pins above and below the body to set the height? That is what I did, but I don't know if that is right.

RE: New to Nitro - Volcano SV
Hey guys! I just got everything going again, but the steering really seems to be lacking. It barely turns either direction. I don't know if it just takes more torque to do it with the aluminum arms or what. I ordered a high torque metal gear servo, but am wondering if I just did something wrong that I could get it working for the time being with what I have. I loosened up the ball screws that screw in to the arms, and that helped a bit, but if I loosen them any more it makes everything loose. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

RE: volcano sv brake and steering?
I have a Volcano that is about 2 weeks old, and I had the same problems. I had the servo saver too loose, and because of that the plastic wore, and eventually got to the point that it didn't work. I also destroyed a brake disk. I had the brakes tightened to far, and stripped oblong shape out, so the disc would just spin, so I had no brakes. This is all stuff I am learning enough about that hopefully I won't have the same problems again. I had to replace the parts, but I think that my lack of knowledge caused both of the problems. Let me know if you need help figuring it out. I literally went through the same things a week ago.

RE: New to Nitro - Volcano SV
Thank you very much! I did go over the car, locktiting every screw I could find. It is possible they weren't tight enough, but I tried to snug them all up. I spent over an hour trying to set the mesh right, because I had read about all of the problems you can have if it isn't just right, and it was my first time. I think when I crashed the muffler got caught and pulled and twisted the engine. I put on new brakes, identical to the stock ones, and loosened them up. It still stops the truck well, but doesn't lock up, so hopefully that will help, but if it hapens again, I may go for the steel ones. Thanks for the link! Thanks for the tip on the washers! I am definately going to do that. I am going to have to see if I can find some locally. Maybe the lesson I need to learn is to be more careful driving, but where is the fun in that? :) You guys have been awesome. Thanks for all of the help!

RE: New to Nitro - Volcano SV
I seem to be really hard on this thing. I ran another tank of gas through this, and got a little air and ended up cartwheeling. When it came to a rest it was loud, so I knew the muffler came off, I run over and hear the spur gear grinding and cut the fuel. Here is why the spur gear went: So it looks like it is already time for a new chasis. I have had this for a week and two days so far. RE: New to Nitro - Volcano SV
Here are the pictures. I honestly just drove a straight line down the driveway with these, and it popped. I did accelerate hard, but they should be able to handle that right? Derek, My front bones were wearing just like you describe, but I replaced the plastic arms with the aluminum ones from the kit the other day and it stopped. I noticed that the arms don't extend down as far any more, I get less clearance, but it has eliminated the problem with the bones wearing. The chasis has little things sticking off it that hit the arms that stop them from extending too far down, it may be worth bending them up just a bit so that you can stop the wear. I am a newb though, so take this with a grain of salt.

I will try to take a picture when I get home, but the round part (head) just popped off the shaft. Looked like the metal of the ball itself was really thin.
