Does anyone know how many small thrust balls there's supposed to be in the diff?

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
ORIGINAL: dspdrew I'm new here, and I just got back into driving RC cars since the 80's. I've been reading through these posts and can see there is clearly a problem with the ESCs on the Savage XS. I bought mine from a local Hobby store here, and when running on a 3C, mine went up in smoke before I even took it out of the house. HPI replaced the whole truck since it even melted parts of the frame. I ran my replacement truck on a 3C for about 20 minutes and it went up in smoke again. Now I have to wait 'till Monday to get this thing replaced again. I don't understand how they can advertize this as being 3C capable...
Sorry about the bad luck. I've been running 3s with stock gearing and no issues at all.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
ORIGINAL: Blitz813 So... I'm no longer impressed with the HR cups. After a few short runs, say 15 minutes, the cups on the back side of tranny sheared right in half. The stock ones didn't even do that after like 20 runs, which included some 3s action. The HR cups never even seen 3s.
My HR cup just broke in half when I put the set screw in. Tightened the screw, heard a snap, and sure enough, clean break just like your picture.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
Maybe I'll just wait until spring and ckeck my temps on stock gearing. I've only driven it when its been below freezing so I havnt' bothered with a temp gun. And now we have waaay to much snow, so it's shelved for awhile.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
For those of you that run 3s, did you change the gearing? I was thinking of doing a 24T or 26T pinion. Anyone change the idler as well?

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
On a side note, this truck is stupid fast on 3s!! Tons of fun and damn near bulletproof. I beat the snot out of it and it just keeps on going.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
Anyone else have major wear on the center drive cup. After 4 packs at 2s and 1 with 3s the cup is pretty much toast. The wear is only on the rear side.

RE: HPI Mini Recon
Does anyone know if the rc18 rear hub Carrier will fit the recon. My kid broke one after 10 seconds of use Christmas morning. I can't find a Hpi part in stock and can't find the megatech ones in Canada.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
Weather has been beautiful and I'm getting some good use out of my savage. Only issue is that when I hit the throttle there's a light "grinding" noise. (not sure how else to describe it) Do I need to adjust the slipper?

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
Oh ya, I picked up a second set of tires/rims while waiting for the savage to show up. Guy at the LHS told me that beadlocks were great so I bought them. Wow, do I hate them. It was a pain in the *ss to put them together and I blew a bead in the first minute driving. They'll go straight in the garbage now.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
Finally got my savage and my 4 year old was bugging me non stop to take it out. So we went (after only setting up the esc and fail safe) and sure enough after about 15 min the set screw came loose on the pinion. Oh well, we had a blast until then. To bad it's snowing like mad and I probably won't use it again until the spring. This is my first electric and I instantly liked it. Will definately be buying the xs's big brother.

RE: newbie crashing non stop!
It came with a little tool to calibrate the swash plate and I've done that. There's no other settings on the Tx that I know of. I guess I'll take some things apart and hopefully figure something out, or else I'll be shelling out another $100 for a BNF.

RE: newbie crashing non stop!
Dang. I can't see any damage but I have to max out two of my trims, the Aileron (all the way right) and the elevator (all the way down). And I still have to compensate in flight to keep it from banking left and moving forward.

RE: newbie crashing non stop!
Thanks guys, I'll keep at it with the msr. I think there may be some type of damage from all the crashes though. I'm constantly trimming and when hovering it rocks forward and backward a fair bit. Or is that normal. How stable should the hover be? Just to clarify, when I'm hovering I can keep it in one spot but it rocks back and forth without me touching the elevator stick.

RE: newbie crashing non stop!
Thanks Felix, I just ran a couple more packs and can hover pretty well. My problem is with the rudder and throttle on the same stick. Anytime I try to turn, things go bad, so I just go forward and backward, side to side... It's really annoying.

newbie crashing non stop!
Well, I decided I wanted to fly a helicopter around the house. After a lot of research I decided to go for a Blade msr. Maybe my hand eye coordination/reflex isn't what I thought it was. I'm crashing this thing continuously. I was in high-rate mode for the first 2 packs and that didn't go to well, lol! Low-rate was much better but I think I'll spend another $80 and get the mcx to learn some skills.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
I'm still trying to decide what kind of servo to buy for the xs. There's just to many options. What kind of torque/speed should I be aiming for? And I decided to get a new radio. I'm going to get the Futaba 3PM-X.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
Customs has had my XS since the 18th. Does anyone know how long stuff is ususally held at the border? I guess I'll order within Canada from now on. I figured I only saved around $20 or so buying from towerhobbies anyways.

Buying a new 2.4 radio. Need opinions.
Hey guys, I'm looking to upgrade my old JR XS3 FM radio. I'm just getting back into R/C after 5 or 6 years. I've narrowed things down to the Futaba 3PM or Spektrum DX3C. I'll be strictly bashing and don't need any super fancy features, just functionability. Thanks

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
One more question guys. I found a battery thats 47mm wide which is the max width of the xs box. Is there any give in there or will the batt not fit because of the wires coming out the top? It's 10awg wire so might not bend that well??

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll just change the servo and maybe get some dirt works. Guys seem to like them. Can't wait to rip it up!

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
phew...Finally made it through all 65 pages. Ordered an xs on Monday, hopefully It'll get here before we get to much snow. From reading the thread, I guess I'll swap out the servo and radio electronics right away. Still debating if I should change out the motor/esc right away also. This is my first electric car. I have a few nitros but haven't been in the rc scene for about 5 or 6 years now. I'm excited to get into it again. I have a JR XS3 radio from back in the day. Is it still a good radio? Better than the stock 2.4 from HPI?? And it seems like everyone uses different lipos, so instead of asking what's best, are there any brands that I should absolutely stay away from? Thanks in advance.
