Recognize This One?
I recently acquired this engine and am lost identifying most engines larger than a .60 ... Can you tell me what this one is? The cranckcase is stamped Made in Canada and bears the number 28 (and 28cc would appear to be about right). It has a Walbro carb and was equipped with a Top Flite 18-8 Super-M prop in a 3-1/2" spinner. Serial # is 400274. Thanks! Dennis

SuperTigre Brushless Motors & ESC vs. ElectriFly
I'm shopping for a brushless motor & ESC for an ElectriFly airplane. The recommended ElectriFly 400 outrunner and 25A ESC total $90 at Tower Hobbies, while a SuperTigre 400 brushless and 30A ESC total $55. If performance and reliability are comparable, the choice is a no-brainer. Anyone with experience with the SuperTigre products care to comment? Thanks in advance! Dennis

RE: Painting foam......Again need quick help
Glad to see this subject here, I came on to post the same question. How about the Floquil line of paints by Testors? Suppose I want to repaint a ParkZone F4F Wildcat, 38" span - how much paint will I need? Looking for a "Navy Blue" for U.S. Navy aircraft of the '40s and '50s - can anyone recommend a specific color? Thanks in advance! Dennis

RE: PT 19 Parts
EBay is probably your best bet to find one quickly. I sold a bunch of them in years past; the rudders don't normally sell for the astronomical prices some of the other parts get. Good luck! Dennis

RE: Monokote - Super Monokote ?
Actually, I just found the answer on Top Flite's FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) website: - - - - - - - - - - - - Has MonoKote changed over the years? I have a few rolls of covering that say "Super MonoKote" on the wrapper and newer rolls that say "MonoKote". What is the difference? No major changes have been made to the formulation in the past 15 years. That is not to say that slight changes are not made from time to time to conform to constantly changing EPA regulations. This is primarily concerning solvents, the adhesive/pigment package has remained virtually unchanged since the upgrade to "Super MonoKote" . With this in mind please be aware that not all colors are made exactly the same-some colors adhere better than others, some offer more opacity and so on. But they all have essentially the same characteristics. Concerning the change from MonoKote to Super MonoKote and back to MonoKote. The original material sold was "MonoKote" this was only on the market for about 5-6 years before it was upgraded to "Super MonoKote". It has remained Super MonoKote ever since. We stopped using the "Super" designation (but changed nothing in the formulation) because most of the modelers involved in the hobby today do not remember the original MonoKote. This created some confusion with some modelers wondering about "regular" MonoKote. As a final thought, you will note that we did not change the "Super" designation on the roll itself. The imprint of "Super MonoKote" is still stamped on the edge of every roll. - - - - - - - - - - - - Dennis

Monokote - Super Monokote ?
I confess to paying little attention to the Moneykote products back in the "early days", and now find myself wondering as I see several rolls of covering - some labeled as Monokote, others as Super Monokote - is there a difference, or is the Super just a marketing ploy? Can anyone here clarify? Dennis, just curious ...

RE: Twin Cities Auction (Minnesota)
Well, after hearing/reading here of several incidents where the "preview process" was not followed, I must apologize for stating otherwise. And hope we do a better job next year. I also must confess to being something of a "member in name only" when it comes to making things like the auction happen. I've been around model airplanes and clubs for decades, and I've never seen another group where so many people jump in and do what needs to be done with no thought of recognition or credit. TCRC is a great group! Dennis

RE: Twin Cities Auction (Minnesota)
Jeff, I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience. And I suspect you're in the minority. I look forward to the auction every year from the standpoint of a seller, a buyer, and as a social event. It's often the one time a year I see certain friends. And I take exception to your comments. Every item comes up from the left side as you face the auctioneer. Every plane is placed on the table or along the wall, where you're given an opportunity to examine it "up close and personal". If you fail to take advantage of that opportunity, please don't blame the auctioneer. There is even a camera focused on the preview table, with the image displayed on a large screen. The guys who serve as auctioneers are all club members, not professional auctioneers, and they're expected to give you the item #, description, and then auction the item off in less than a minute. They are all flyers themselves, and have absolutely nothing to gain by sticking it to a fellow modeler. I think they do a terrific job! Please take some personal responsibility for making an uninformed purchase. The opportunity to do otherwise was amply provided. Dennis PS: I acquired a total of 8 engines at the auction. They are all in better condition than I expected, based on (1) a quick glance, and (2) some experience with engines.

RE: Twin Cities Auction (Minnesota)
Bought all 3 recently, along with several others, from a man who loved flying the orange and blue beast especially. It took a nose dive due to a radio glitch and needs some rebuilding, but not much. It's covered in fabric - probably Coverite - and appears to be pretty tough. He flew it with the Alpina gas motor. He also flew the smoke-equipped "Hell Hog" but never completed the smoke installation after installing plumbing for it. The blue biplane is a never-completed project which doesn't need much more work. That's about all I know about it. I'll be happy to email or post additional photos, and answer questions as best I can. Dennis
