RE: whatcha think
Well, it looks different, so naturally i like it! So I take it this is a ducted fan? One thing I noticed is the angle/height of the gear. It could make ground handling pretty tricky. Also, one thing that would make this a little easier on the eye would be to blend the fuse a bit more to the tail. I dont know how experienced your are, so building a small version like you plan is a good idea. Once you get into designing/experimenting, its a whole new ball of wax. It could turn out really well, or it could end in disaster.

if u want 5-6 flights then a good 1200mah pack will do you just fine. (depending on the size of model and duration of flight) i never did get why those servos say nicad only...

hey, quick question for jody: Does running avgas affect the warranty of these engines at all? I can get it really easy, and really cheap too. Basically I like the "no smell" characteristics of it and the long shelf life.
ORIGINAL: FrankHawks Back then I was refueling Republic's 580's. U need to dingy it up alot.
not just yet. It did just roll off the assembly line! It would be kinda cool to see someone gradually add "wear and tear" to a scale plane. Probably more work than its worth though... Very nice work!

You should always balance the airplane with an empty tank. (keeps from having a too aft CG when you are low on fuel. )

RE: JB Weld gasoline proof
I used to work at a factory in alberta that makes landscaping tiles out of recycled rubber from old tires. the molds that we used were made of high density polyetheylene. We tried about a hundred zillion different ways to repair the molds if they were damaged. Nothing really worked. (even the expensive repair kits with the powder and catalyst. ) Like stated before, buying a new tank or making one is a better idea. I totally get why you would like to repair it. But its just one of those things that cant be repaired. Im into the whole reduce reuse recycle idea, and if you want to keep using the fuel tank, they make a great re-usable epoxy mixing cup.

RE: Seniorita vs LT-25
campgems: making a steerable tailwheel is easy! Just make a pull-pull system that links to the next holes in the servo arm, and solder a metal horn to the tailwheel unit. a flat piece of brass or metal will work too. On my bash of the rita, i completely re-designed the tail feathers to look like a fw-190. If i was to do it the "easy way" i would have moved the tail fin back and split the elevators. Also, with the rita, i used 0 dihedral and the original incidence. One thing i did do was increase the amount of right thrust and used an 11-5 prop (i love a steep climb rate and high alpha maneuvers) I added a bit of down thrust too. that flat wing likes to make alot of lift. If i was to do that project over, i would have made a semi symmetrical wing along with bigger ailerons. any rolling maneuvers were in slow motion. a simple roll took a couple seconds to complete. made me a better pilot cause i had to use elevator and rudder to make it axial... or at least close to it. The thing i love about the kadet line of planes, is the hundred million things that can be done with them. There is a website somewhere that has a whole bunch of pics of what other ppl have done to modify them.

RE: Seniorita vs LT-25
having built and flown both, I would say the lt-25 is better as far as aerobatic capabilities (when i built the ailerons for the seniorita, they were a bit too small) The lt is a very quick and easy plane to build. But i personally like the lines of the seniorita better. If your looking for a nice winter project to whittle away at, I would build the rita. If you want simplicity, go with the Lt. Either way, you will be happy with either planes. (or you could build both! ) But using a .40 is a really good idea in either of these planes. Lots of spare power for when you want it.

I am going to be doing almost exactly the same project this winter. I was kinda thinking of using the dle 30, but not sure if it will be too much engine for the airframe. Ill be watching this thread closely.

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser!
I took this year off r/c, due to moving and new career. I was looking for an engine for my winter project (up here in the north, there isnt much to do in the winter) and im going to be building a balsa usa citabria pro. would the 20 be enough for it? I like to do large loops and hammerheads. None of the 3-d stuff. I was looking at the 30, but it just seems like it will be "too much" for that airframe. plus ground clearance might be a problem. I swear that the power, weight and price of that engine came straight from some r/c related dream.

RE: Sig Kadet LT .25
nice job on the 25! I built one a few years ago (i think my build thread is in this forum) I bet if a guy had nothing but time, he could build one in a matter of a couple days. They are a dream to build and fly. I learned on mine. I originally bought a 25 for it, and it was enough power to fly it. The engine crapped out on me, so i bought a webra 40 for it. Was definately lots of power, but i could throttle back and just putt around. One thing i would have done differently would be beef up the landing gear mount and use nylon bolts. I had the gear depart the airplane a few times when i was learning to land. Reading this thread has me wanting to build one again.

very nice work! One technique i was shown for making wing skins, is to join the sheets of balsa with contact cement. Works pretty good and is a fairly quick procedure providing that the sheets are all lined up and fitted properly.

RE: One engine out on takeoff...or How to repair a twin engine airplane
man that just sucks. you did what we in the full scale world call VMCed it. it sucks, cause there is no real way to determine it in a model. obviously u did the right thing, cause its repairable. one thing about VMC (minimum control speed) is it is reduced with the gear down belive it or not. this phenomenon is called keel effect. anyways, good luck with the rebuild

RE: Arf Review in the Kit Build Forum?
I personally feel that "just anyone" could be a good candidate (providing that they dont represent the views of any company, ect. ) I am just anyone, as are most all the other fellow RCUers. I think it would be a down to earth review. I dont need a professional writer with perfect grammar and spelling to tell me the things I want to know about a kit. I think that if the average guy has trouble with something, that will show us if a product is worth buying or not. Most "reviewers" are very talented and meticulous. Not common triats for the "average joe" (Im not trying to offend, just my opinion)

RE: Question of ethics . . . needle valve tool
On my webra, the high speed needle has a bolt in it so I can use a ball driver. I had the ball driver pop out, and my hand came pretty damn close to the prop. Since then, I just use the "standard" method that RCKen described. The biggest thing, is to slow down, and really focus on what you are doing. Most prop accidents happen when people are talking, frustrated (usually engine induced) or havent had a close call yet, and havent learned to truly respect that spinning meat saw on the front.

RE: Strange problem with Homie 30cc on gas/glow...
With the price/power/quality of the new smaller gas engines available, conversions are getting to be more for the sake of tinkering. Also, with 2.4 radios, one of the main advantages of gas/glow has been taken away. And with cheaper CDI units, its more tempting (at least for me) to convert to CDI (which used to be alot more money). All this has happened within the last 2 or 3 years. Gas/glow still has its place. When I tinkered with my stihl on gas glow, alot of club members were interested. Its fun doing something different.

RE:
I thought I would bring this thread back. I have a stihl 25.4cc engine. I picked it up a long time ago from a shop. I ran it this spring on gas glow, and it seemed like a strong engine. I forgot my tach that day, so no readings. It screamed with an 18-6 and it sounded strong with a 18-8. I have stared at this engine many times pondering what rpm it was actually doing. I have an XYZ CDI that was originally supposed to be for my poulan, but I cant resist the urge to test this engine. I have the ignition all set up, and by tomorrow the JB weld will be set up. I need to get a different spark plug as well. I would have just tried gas glow again, but I have been addicted to burning avgas. I just love the smell of it when it burns, and also the fact it doesnt stink up my apt. I will post a video if all goes well tomorrow.

You're thinking of Rysuim. I have tried the glow plug powered all the time, but wont use it in a plane, cause I dont have a battery charger that can do single cell batteries. It works pretty good.

RE: Sig Somethin Extra tailwheel
The sullivan tailwheel unit will save the rudder in the event of a hard landing. I had the stock one on mine, and I had a very hard landing, and the wire colapsed and caused the rudder to break. If I had the sullivan one, the spring probably would have saved the repair.
