RE: Black Horse 65
lol im looking to buy something dirt cheap, im not confident using my dads trainer, its old, and im affraid if i destroy it i wont be able to replace it, so im thinking of building a foam plane, ive got some plans, and my father in law is experianced with building and flying, so he can help me set the CG make motor recomendations, stuff like that. theres several nice planes on craigslist in the louisville area. lol i may pick one of those up some time thanks for the invite to the field, i may drag my father in law along also, he has an edf foamie l39 and he doesnt get to fly it much... thanks again andy

RE: losi lipo headache!!!
the packs have a latch, and are smaller than the standard size ports on my ballancer, what i understsand to be "hypperion style" i got disgusted with it and called my lhs today. theyere ordering some adapters... i was hoping i could avoid doing that, scince the shop really isnt local. about a 45 mile drive to the nearest decent hobby shop. any who, i suppose i couldve saved everyone some time and done that in the first place... so on to another question. would it hurt the packs to silicone the seam in the hard case? in an attempt to water proof them, or am i wasting my time? is water more harmful to lipos than it is to nimh? sorry, batteries are not my forte, thanks andy

losi lipo headache!!!
so, as per usual, ive exhausted my eyeballs researching before posting this, and ive just managed to confuse my self further, so here goes i bought two losi lipo packs from my lhs recently, cause they were on sale, and i needed them anyways. lol i brought them home and low and behold the balance plug obviously is different than any of my other lipo batts. from what ive read my charger and the rest of my battereies are using a JST XH or HX or something like that, and the one on the losi batt is smaller. heres where it gets real confusing, alot of what i read says the the losi balance plug has 4 pins for 2s, but mine clearly have only three.... so my question is, what the heck do i need to do to be able to balance these packs?> thanks for any and all advice these packs were bought for my 25in mono, if i need to i can post over in electric car/truck type forums. thanks again andy

RE: 1/8 scale Circus Circus (Dumas)
basicly, the setup you showed, should work fine, stick in the 10s2p range. around 10,000 total "Mah" the swordfish esc you picked out will work wonderfully, should have more than enough amp rating to handle the draw of the motor and as far as Kv of the motor, try to achieve somewhere around 25,000-35,000 rpm (im sure there will be debate on this) so your 10s packs, at 37volts and a motor with 730kv 37*730=27010 sounds like a winner to me

RE: 1/8 scale Circus Circus (Dumas)
the c rating of a battery back relates to the amperage the battery can supply. the higher C rating the more amps. this also relates to the Mah capacity also bassicly. for the packs that you listed. 5500 Mah 25c you multiply the mah by the c rating... so 25x5500=137500... now divide by 1000 (1000 MAh=1 amp) 137500/1000= 137.5 amps so your 5s1p pack has 5500 mah, 25c, and a max current draw rating of 137.5 amps scince your configuration uses two sets of packs wired in parrallel, you can double that rating so right around 275amps, one thing you should remember is that these numbers a rough estimates a best, some will be more some will be less, the consistancy of the cells may not be perfect, and the integrity of them wont be identical, so your set will likely be lower than that. IMO i would look for a higher c rating on the battery packs.... the more current you draw from a battery, the shorter its lifespan, so drawing alot of current from a lesser rated battery, would cause it to have a shorter life... it doesnt effect bigger batteries as bad... so in short, if your going to spend money anywhere, spend it on the batteries, get the highest rated ones you can. you would be doing yourself a favor.

what are you guys running for your flex shafts and stuffing tubes. is there an advantage to the 1/4in tube and .150 shaft? i ask because for an electric boat running a .150 shaft, i would use 7/32 tube.... just wondering before i install anything thanks andy

we can make her go as fast as your pockets are deep. XD that being said. (with no budget in mind) i would get a nue brand motor, just because they are proven preformers, most of the really fast boats youll see, are powered by nue. heres a link to a page where a bunch of there motors are listed, not sure which one youll need for your application. but someone else surely will. and im betting they will chime in. http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/products.php?cat=Neu+Brushless+Motors castle creations also makes really nice motors, http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/products.php?cat=Castle+Creations+Motors as far as the esc goes http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=ker-seaking-180 ^^^ this one will do you well. happy boating, and i hope someone comes along that can help more than i did, and give you more/better advice on the motor, and batteries.

RE: Zippkits Easy Vee Alternate power
i shouldve re-read your post, brushless motors cant be run off of the same controller, at least not generally, im sure someone out there has done it sucessfully, but i have not. the easiest way is just to Y harness two controllers into the reciever, the good part of doing this (provided you get programable controllers) is that you can somewhat fine tune the two of them to get the running well in sync. just my two cents, if you decide to use two controllers, make sure you dissable one of the controllers BEC to make sure you dont over power your RX.

RE: Zippkits Easy Vee Alternate power
in answer to your question on running in saltwater... salt water wont hurt your boat at all provided you take care to follow proper after run procedures. for startes salt is corosive, so your outboards, and any other hardware on the outside of the boat will need to be washed with clean water. the same goes for the cooling system.... home depot has ball valves that go on your hose, grab one of those and an apropriate sized threaded pvc cap, and an extra pressure nipple, and put it all together. then all youll have to do is hook the rig up to your hose, then take your water inlet line off of the boat, and plug it into the cooling rig and regulate the flow with the ball valve.... that rig is also great for checking for leaks in your cooling system.... after cleaning anything that came into contact with salty stuff. its a good idea to spray wd-40 in the cooling inlet also.... also, dont forget, youll need to grease the outboards more frequantly than you would if you ran in freshwater... ill let the outboard guys recomend how often you should grease it. your number one enemy with all water, but more so with salt water is corrosion. and these after run procedures will definatly fight the corrosion effectivly... if theres anything ive left out, im sure others will pick up the slack, good luck with your project, and dont forget to post lots of pictures XD happy boating, and welcome to the forum! andy

RE: go .18 parts
yeah, i decided on an aluminum one, looking for some fancy anodized ones, lmao. i came up with a solution to my pull start, it was quick and easy... i just took the handle off and tied the rope back around the stop that goes into the handle, now, if i even want to put it back on, alls i have to do is untie my knot, and reasymble it all. no rewinding springs and silly stuff like that. nice and easy. are you still modding engines? i know you stoped because of work and school before. im just looking for a new head button, one that will accept either turbo, or long plugs.... thats about all my lhs carries anymore. no shorties and maybe the same burnroom as you use on your "stage one" mods. if you are, just pm me thanks. well, its winter here, and it wont be long till the water starts getting hard, so keep me updated on how well it works on yours. ill propabably go ahead and remove the rope, and just use it that way, but the extra space wouldve been nice. what flywheel are you guys using on this engine, i thought the one from the os .18 would do, or the aquacraft. i dont suppose it matters a great deal

first hydro build gary findlay plans
hey all, im building my first FE hydro its the gary findlay 22.5 inch plans for the notre dame hydro. pics soon to follow. im wondering what hardware would work well on this boat, i prefer to order from an actual website, like OSE, rather than ebay. im thikning of running a fiegao 540s 3943kv motor on 2 cells. im not sure what esc yet, as i dont know what kind of amp rating would be safest, im thinking it will need at least 60amps im thinking if this estimation is correct, that the hobbywing seaking 60amp version would be a good match with this set up, i would get a hypothetical total rpm of 29178.2 rpm, i was told that for hydros 25-30 thousand rpms is suitable, also something im assuming based on word of mouth if anyone can recomend hardware for this hull, i would be thankful. pics will come tomorrow, my camera isnt here at the moment. thanks andy

the rudder is 95mm from very top, to very bottom. yeah, the nimh packs were a bit heavy, but, the excitement got to me and i just had to take it out lol. hopefully the lipos will be enough to get it up out of the water a little and im sure it will be much faster lol. also a quick question about props. after 4 sets of batteries my motor and esc were room temp. im not sure if this will hold true with the lipos, but i think its almost safe to say i could go for a larger prop.

first run video 25" mono
hey guys, finally got some video of my first run of my 25" mono. its a brushless feigao 2249 kv (something like that) with an aqua craft 60amp brushless lipo ready esc with the updated large capacitor in the video its running twin 7.2v nimh 2500 mah packs. a hitec servo, HK 2.4ghz radio speedmaster adjustable surface drive strut, twin carbon fiber turn fins, a jae .21 rudder and twin trim tabs. now onto my concerns, it acts like its going to flip when i turn right, the rudder is mounted on the right side. im thinking that the rudder is too long and cutting up and out of the water. so heres a link to the vid, enjoy. pics will follow soon. feed back, please? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xVDLJGINl0

dieter schluter mini boy!
hello all. while helping my father in law move, we came across an old schluter mini boy. inside the box it was in was three different length tail booms, its currently built with the longest of the three. also in the box was a never started os max 46 and a ball shapped "silencer" theres no radio in it, and all the linkage is in the box, just not installed, however i have all the manuals. i plan on taking some pictures and posting them in the next day or so. i have about 50 questions, but ill keep them to a minimum for starters, theres a bunch of servos in the box, will they work with new digital radios? theres a gyro, but it looks like it should be in a muesem, i plan on replacing it, where do i start to find one? will one of any size work for this heli? and last, where would i be able to find some good replacement blades, either carbon, or wood would be preferable. ive flown co-axials before, and fixed pitch, but never collective pitch, and ive never really worked on any heli, so all of this is a great learning experiance. any other advice on ANYTHING pretaining to this heli is appriciated. ps i also scored a nice LMH 100 or 110 i think, it runs on a cox 051 with a throttle ring. not bad payment for moving some furniture

RE: quick newb question
i was wondering about the esc, but its the closest thing i can afford in my budget, im not trying to make a screamer, just doing this build to get the experiance. if im not mistaken, a prather 215 is practicly the same as the x440, im going to stick to two bladed props, and if need be, i can drop back to an x436 or x437, i cant remember exactly which one it is.... im hoping the 215 will be ok, because i allready have one, and its SPB'ed allready, thanks again for the advice, i should have pictures within the next week. just waiting on my order from ose XD
