RE: The new model from CPLR!
The flying caracteristics from the first Axiome to the latest version of the + is huge, the first being very difficult to stall as it is too stable but the latest is so easy to stall and enter a spin, I wonder how this new double taper wing behaves. The Axiome might not be the pretiest plane, but is far better than any monoplane I know, and it took a while to develop the Galactik as it was difficult to design something better than the Axiome+. Only those who have flown the Axiome+ understand what I say I guess.....

When the pictures get posted on the Oxai page, it will be obvious it is something completely new. Let's see what all the "experts" here in RCU will say about what it is about and the "exact" reasons and detailed explanations on the airflow, and what is wrong with it and bla bla bla.......

RE: The new model from CPLR!
It is Oxai, There is a small access cover where the rudder servo sits, just forward of the stab adjustment screw. The engine must be the new YS 185, and the most important detail not clearly seen in the picture is the ventral T canalizer with anhedral. He just flew it one day ago, and it's supposed to be very good, but not much details nor comparison to the Axiome+. It has an engine cowling on the bottom, not the ussual belly pan, so wing seems to be a two piece one.

RE: BACKUP/Redundant batteries
Jim, The DualBatt Digiswitch usually does not discharge both packs evenly, they are almost always different, I say almost as Tuny's always does and I am using Emcotec's so do not know if it is like that to all Digiswitches. The Emcotec DualBatt does discharge the packs evenly, but that is just information as that is what I use now. Regards. Alejandro

RE: 150 meter rule.
ORIGINAL: UKpatternflyer After years of flying big and fast I have struggled with the imperative from the FAI to fly at 150m, but this became very apparent at last years W/C in Muncie where anything beyond was hammered by the judges. Now in the UK the distance we are flying at is being taken very seriously and certainly has led me into changing my style, which is not at all easy. I have found a great help in using the APC 20.5 x 10 and also the 21 x 10WPN props with my Axiome + / YS 175, as it really does slow the model down; I guess there are corresponding combinations in the electric world. Overall I'm happier doing this than flying further out as I was, which I guess was closer to 200m. 150m seems very close to me but after a season of trying to do this it certainly seems to be working now. Keith
Keith, Is there a noticeable difference on the Axiome speed between the 20.5 and the 21? I thought about trying the 21. Regards Alejandro P.

RE: ys175
No, it still uses the nuts, but the flanges do not get distorted, that is a big plus, so there is no leak there preventing for oil to be all over the place. I will be trying the YS header vey soon, it has the same concept on the old Hatori, you can see it in Narukehobby's page, but the latest Hatori has been very good. Regards Alejandro

Hello Scott, Yes, the original gasket, I stopped using loctite on those three bolts about two years ago, and still no problems. But wich Hatori do you have? I mean version, not model, or how long ago did you buy it? I did have two tight the bolts once in a while on the older type, on the latest model the flange is stronger and do not get distorted and I do not have to check the bolts. Regards Alejandro

RE: ys175
Loctite do work, but not that much if it is very hot, as heat is used to loose parts attached with Loctite, but use red, not blue On the manifold, secure the nuts, fly, and after laning while still hot, re adjust them, that should take care of it. Regards

RE: ys175
Hello Drac1, It work as Robert said. The YS ignition fires every time the sensor is exited, I actually move the prop back and forth about 20deg and the ignition fires every time I cross the sensor, the DA engines ignition I think works as you say as it has to have some speed (achievable by hand), if the prop is moved slowly it will not fire, but I am not sure, it's been a while since I ran my DA100. You ,ight have a problem with your ignition if it is a YS. Regards

RE: Electric Vs Engine.
Henning, We were shocked at what happened to you, we know what it takes to go to a WC, but that's the past brst of luck to you and you can enjoy SA next year, good luck. Today I flew 6 15 minutes flights with me Axiome with the YS 175, the most impresive YS to date, I have not been able to do that in the same time frame with my Amethyst with 6 TP packs, and I have actually spend more time charging the batteries and recharge to storage at the end of the day in two years than I had worked on my YS engines or the last 5 years. I fly both but preffer the YS anytime, it is simply a matter of what do like and enjoy the best, I don't think there is a rule for that, fly what you want, can and have, but always having fun.

RE: Electric Vs Engine.
In the WC at Muncie, I don't remember if it was form Belgium or Norway, but at the start of the first P round a pilot's plane bursted into flames (electric) and the aircraft was destroyed, someone actually had to dump an ice cooler inside the plane to try to estinguish the flames, worst part, he had only one airplane, he lost the entire WC, and the airplane, very sad.

Jim, Exactly, that is what I measure on the first ESC, but not yesterday, very confusing, as DC reading was only mV, where across the fields I measured 4VAC.

RE: F3A Results - SPOILER
I think I am mistaken or probably there might be different types of ESC control, I remember doing a check a while ago and the voltage was DC. Well after giving some thought again, I made a check and in fact it is AC, as I measured AC Voltage and frequency on one of my small Hacker setups, so the ESC has the inverters to generate AC current and synchronized as they have to be 120deg apart, the thing is some text call for only a two phase while the other works as a Hall Sensor to syncronize the motor with the ESC, but I read before the motor uses the three phases, but shuts one down in a syncronized manner to use the Hall Sensor for positioning, that is why the sensored motors are supposed to be more efficient, as there are specific hall sensor for positionining leaving the winding fully usable at all times, in any cas I did measure voltage on all three wires, about 4V max on each one on a 3S setup. I wish a manufacturer of ESC's will actually give some explanation of it, but looks like the inverters in the ESC change the frequency along with the voltage to control the motor speed and using a winding to determine the position of the rotor so it can synchronize the rotating magnetic field and in this way the timing can be set by changing the advance of the rotating magnetic field in relation to the rotor. This is the way I knew it worked, but again, somewhere I read about being DC the way I said before, but right know stand with this latest statement as I just performed the check in house. Regards

RE: F3A Results - SPOILER
Nope, ESC are three phase inverters but without the negative portion of the AC wave so it act like a half wave rectifier and still regulates the frequency as the motor works on magnetic rotating field theory, and that is why old ESC which were low frequency could not reach the power todays highfrequency ESC's, they are DC so the ESC can regulate the power with voltage variation. If some one knows an ESC applied explanation please post it, as I might be mistaken because in the begining I thought they were all AC, then researched and found what I wrote. But It may be what you think it is Brian, no problem for me, anyway you just correct everyone, even world champions [:D]

RE: 120 decreasing rpm
Not really, mine looked like new when I discarded it, they wear very evenly and smoothly, I really doubted if I needed to change it, but based on the behavior I did and fixed, sorry I can not have better news on that. I'll get a picture of the discarded piston tomorrow, I still have it. The reason why I changed the piston is because there was a new version of that piston which produced more power, but try changing the ring at least, and make sure the piston grove is very clean. RE: 2102 FAI/F3A EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
My experience with Christophe is also great, I asked him about his spins at the WC in Muncie, in my opinion the most beautiful spins I've seen, really, the spin is an ugly maneuver, but his were exceptional, so we are using the same tent and I asked him if I could make my Axiome(first version) to spin like his , the third version, he took his radio and plane turned it on and showed my his throws, and asked me to do the same to compare, that, you don't see every day, and exceptional person and pilot for sure. RE: ys175
I have used the RCATS with great success, not a single glitch, but I am using the Hobbico head not the DuBro, the DUBro failed after a few starts, the Hobico works great. I use a separate regulator for Rx and for CDI, on the CDI I use a Shullman regulator with a switch, it is actually lighter to my previous Duralite setup, I am going to try the Emcotec unit now, also the Powerbox Ignition sw, in any case I use a TunderPower 900mAh batt, it last for five flights before recharge and that leaves about 40% battery remaining. Plankman, the way the 175 comes adjusted from the factory will get you going right out of the box, the engine will start getting richer after some 6 flights, then you will have to lean it, depending on many factors, the pump up to a 1/4 turn and the needle valve about the same. As Adrian points out, the most difficult part is to recognize when the engine is lean or rich, watch for the smoke trail, the engine should smoke in all conditions, and I will sugest to stay in high oil content, it makes the engine run better and it is easier to set up using the smoke as reference. The cooling is very important, use foam as papaone does on his cowling, but you can also use foam on the sides of the engines. I secured my headcap with a ty-rap with the intake transfer tube and never had a single one fail, I install it very tight and it can not move, as per the instructions, there are now two two set screws which help improve the fit, anyway I still use the ty-rap. Regards

RE: 120 decreasing rpm
Jeff, I had a similar problem years ago, I fixed my engine by replacing the piston and ring, maybe the engine you are working on is just worn. By the way, my engine started to loose power in flight one day, and after three flights with the same problem I had to change the piston as I mentioned, it was something we will think it happens gradually, but no. And which 120? Regards

RE: ys175
Hello Plankman, Yes, you can run 20% on the 175, but with lower Nitro the CDI will increase the reliability, also and to agree with Cris, all engines running CoolPower will look like new on the inside with 300+ flights, the CDI gives about 20% more flying time compared to Glow. The CDI eliminates the backfiring problems of the glow version, so you will be saving close to $100 in a delayed glow driver. I ran Wildcat YS20/20 years ago, before I changed from the 120AC. I ran PowerMaster for years on the 160 and up, awesome fuel, as good as Morgan's. Also used Byrons Gen @ in competition and ran as well as the other two, but cannot tell about long term use. Regards

RE: F3A Results - SPOILER
At the WC in Argentina, the wind speed was above the limit, but the thing is everybody (around 200+ people) have their fixed travel plans, so usually, unless there is something very severe, they will not stop the competition, the flying was awful but never stopped. The implications of cancelling the competitions or delaying will cost thousands of dollars just for the re scheduling. Regards
