RE: Who's this guy
Hey Fender, would you believe that I still use a Duke Nukem mouse pad on my desk. Great call there and sure brings back memories. Yeah, it looks just like him. Archie

RE: Flying unfinshed models
I fly mine only once they are completly finished. First, its just the way I am, it needs to be completed and second, I have many fellow club members who always bring their cameras to the field. I couldn't show up with an unfinished model. Archie

RE: balsa usa 1/4 piper cub kit
hugger- thanks for that suggestion. I was wondering how big I would need to go since it will be a dedicated float plane. So I will plan for a 1.20 four stroke, as a minimum size. Archie

Subscribed, I also got a Balsa USA 1/4 scale cub that I will be building this winter. Mine is going to be put on floats. I will watch with interest as this one gets built. Already picked up on a few nice suggestions. Thanks guys. Archie

RE: Asphalt Runway yes/no
I think your club should get together and hold a meeting and discuss this immediately. Discuss all the issues with this proposed new runway and get everthiing out in the open and then have a club vote. Archie

RE: Shaky Hands
I would have to say that if you only get the shakes in your hands, you are pretty lucky. I get them in my hands and legs whenever I maiden a new plane. Cant control it at all and the guys with me get a good laugh.

RE: Has the P47 replaced the P51 in popularity?
This may not be very fair to the p-51 but here goes what I did. I have been in love with the P-51 ever since I was a kid. One of our club members has the p-47 and he let me fly it. It was so easy to fly as Minn says, I had to have one. Felt like I had been flying it for years. So I got the TF p-47 kit to build. In all fairness, I will get a p-51 some time down the road. Most of our club members have stated at one time or another that the p-47 seems to be the easiest warbird to fly. Good luck with your choice. Archie

RE: Difficult Arfs!
I had 54 teenage kids out to our field last summer, they were all in a summer program put on through the university. By the end of the day we got every one of them up flying on the buddy box. I gave a lecture on our hobby and all the different aspects of it. They had lots of questions on "where we got our planes". I explained to them about kits, arfs, rtfs, scratch builds and so on. I showed them that they could do any of these things themselves. Find out what you like to do and go for it. Maybe building from a kit is not your cup of tea but an arf is. Nothing wrong with that at all. They were amazed at how flexable our hobby is and all the different options available to them. The points I wanted to stress to them was to be safe, and to have fun. And thats what we did that day. As most have already stated here, dont label, quit worrying about what everyone else is doing. Just do your own thing and have fun with it. Archie

RE: It is Time to GO Joe
I agree with John also, this is a truly sad thing to have to deal with. There is really no good way to address this issue or to solve this issue. As our club president, I have been foutunate that this has not been an issue. Our older club members have used the buddy box or they just simply quit flying. They still come to the field and have a good time but just dont fly anymore. My advise would be this, we have to put safety first. If they will not go on the buddy box, then they need to wait until the field is completly clear of all members before they fly. This may mean they come to the field during the week when nobody else is there. No club wants to have a serious injury or death on their hands due to a plane hitting someone in the pit area because they coldnt keep up with it. Here is to a safe 2011 to all of us. Archie

RE: Decal Troubles
oldtyme, I have had some old decals also that did the same thing yours did. I got them from a buddy and where they were folded, I noticed that the clear top layer was coming off of the lower color layer. Basically they were no good. RCKen gives good advise with windex. The only thing I would add is to let them sit overnight so they dry good. Good luck.

RE: Dumb CA glue technique question.
This is what I was tought to do and so far has been working out really well. I will start out with thin CA because it wicks into the joint very well. Then when the plans tell me its time to romove the part from the building board, I will go back,( and this usually takes a couple of nights for the wings and fuse), and hit all the joints again with CA+.

RE: any one flying a rascal or flown one.
My good friend has the rascal 110, he flies it at the field and also puts floats on it for some water fun. It is a very nice airplane and has no bad habbits, very predictable. Not sure on his engine size but it is gas. If you have the opportunity to get one, go for it. I personally fly the kadet senior which is a little smaller than the rascal 110. Great flying planes.

RE: Cell phones ?
I always leave my cell phone in my truck when I am at the field. As a side note, I once read somewhere that you should never talk on your cell phone while pumping gas at the gas station. Could cause an explosion. Always wondered about that one.
