RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
ORIGINAL: hrdcoreglf Sounds like it is time to switch to 1/8 scale, single spur gear. I have never had any of these problems.
so what car do you have and how many tanks of gas through it and how much maintence and parts has it required?
ORIGINAL: ehroof no bro, no hpi fits, i have a rs4 evo and an mt and neither are close. no spur gears fit either, i dont believe in covering up that hole since its a way for trapped rocks and debris to get out.
I tried to run at a base ball diamond and I couldn't becase the window was letting rocks seize my gears almost every time I hit the brakes hard it would just stop and bog till i pulled the rock out and it kept happening about ten times till I went home and put duct tape on the bottom and never had problems since other then the gears just striping.

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
hey erhoof I used a hpi threaded clutch bell on my first buggy it is now retiried because of all the problems I made it my parts car the hpi bell with threaded gears seemed ok but I think I have two problems One I need a slipper clutch in the spur gears to save them from the shock of bumps and landings were I couldnt let off the gas fast enough and the other problem is the tranny is realy prone to crud and small debris getting in through the bottom of the frame and chewing the gears up so I think A tranny with tougher spur gears that slip and are sealed is the ticket or at leaste have a cover unerneath. does any one know If Hpi Has a tranny that will fit. My last tranny had more load on it because I went to bigger tires but it was alot better for the rest of the car I am going to order a 13/18 clutch bell to gear it down. But I still need to replace my tranny.

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
ORIGINAL: Shupid_one now i am going to buy one of these cars, either the tremor or the xp. what i think is happening is that the two speed is absent of the important slipper clutch. like all you know the slipper well, slips if there is excess torq on the drive tran. when your driving your car off road the gears are subjected to diferating pressure, this pressure is highest when jumping, accelerating or during the second gear transition. when you mix cheap plastic with no slipper and high torq you are asking for trouble. i belive the gearbox was developed for the on road cars because the terrain is flat and is not subjected to massive load, they figured to give everybody two speed and keep the cost of desighning down. so, i would only get the single speed tranny, just put in a spur with less teeth. when i get a car im going to swap the spur with a traxxas (if capatible) traxxas makes a strong gear.
This seems very very like likely No how do we fix this?

They were set perfact I think it was the heat in the clutch bell cause the gears to melt I am using a redcat steal clutch bell and you can see it has been getting hot.
ORIGINAL: Macanan Its not the rc, you may have the mesh to far out, meaning the motor isnt close enough to the tranny.
no I have set it with the paper trick and still no luck. But seriously the first second I was off road a small rock seized my first tranny so I first used duct tape and it worked way better so then I made a new cover for the tranny but this time it still striped out everything was set up propely and the clutch is the redcar upgraded steal bell I have had so much greife with these cars it seems I work on them for about 10 hours for about a tank af fuel.

RE: 1/10 Buggy Compatible Parts
To take full advantage of it you can change the exhause port duration to a lower number (compared to the transfer port for your state of tune and combination) than it would in comparison to a naturaly asperated 2 stroke. For eg alot of intake charge will blow out the exhauste port and not be forced back in by the pipe like it is suposed to with a supercharger with the exhauste duration of 190deg and transfer pot duration of 145 deg but If you run 145 transfer with a exhause duration of 175 deg it will stop some of the fresh air fuel charge from blowing out the exhauste out. This is one major concideration you need to look at if you are trying to use a supercharger thew whole engine needs reworking to make it work in most cases. Not saying how well or if it is worth it. As well the exhauste presure pushes the fuel into the carb and if you try to up the presure in the carb with a supercharger it will not get enough gas to run properly. I personaly would just run a higher percentage of nitro which is alot like using nitrous and I would jet it right if that didnt satify me I would port or replace the engine with a better one. These engines dont rev to there potential to begin with so I would look into that first. just my 2 cents. I have a RC Car chassis dynamometer if anyone has a project to be proved if it works or not I would be more then willing to help them out!

$50 thats cheep try a few thousand if you mess up a street bike head! If you take your time, and use the right tools, you will be fine and a big benifit is you port from the out side of the sleave wich makes it less likely for you to wreck it if you slip!

RE: I Want to Pop Wheelies!!!
Now I might be missing something but, if you stiffen the rear springs then the rear will want to stay up because there is more presure in the shock so then it would reduce the weight transfer to the rear which should make it harder to "pop wheelies" corect? Ehroof I think you ment soften instead of stiffen did you not?

RE: I Want to Pop Wheelies!!!
Crank the front springs stiff and soften the rear springs all the way, then gear it down, then find the clutch set up that lets it rev the highest before engaugement. and run the highest nitro concentration you can find! That might work. I had my bb just barely pull the front wheels off the ground for about 10 feet coming out of a corner on pavement twice after I ported the engine but it was just a power wheely and partialy because the shoks were all as soft as the would go and the fluid was to thin inside them.

Check your exhauste and see if it is sealed I have had major problems with mine. The manifold to engine gaske kept blowing till I made a spacer out of aluminum to make up for the improper machineing.

RE: Traxxas clutch shoes
The exhauste manifold is actualy machened to low for the engine and it lesks exhuaste out of the joint because of this. I have tried a couple gaskets but I think I will machine a small peice of aluminum to adaptet it so I can make it all seal till my header pipe makes it in.

RE: I give up
I had the same problem and it was two things one was the fuel cap not sealing on the tank it was actualy built wrong so the pin for the hinge was to high holding the back of the cap to hight causing the oring to never seal no mater how new it was. And the second thing that caused it which is where the actual air bubbles came from was the out put was partialy pluged it just wasent drilled out properly from the factory I used a dentist pick and got it freed up but you can usaly tell by blowing through it and lots of fuel should shoot out with out bubbles it in. As for the gas cap you can presureize the tank by pluging the carb side and use a small amount of pressure at my shop we have a mitivac that you can pump small amounts of presure into the tank I used about 3-4 psi and sparayed soapy water around the tank to check it. good luck man. Hope this helps.
ORIGINAL: ehroof the traxxas spring is great, from my use of the shoes, they are too small and slip too much and dont completely grab until too high of an rpm. you can try them if you want and see if you like how they work.
which clutch bell did you try them with? I will be driving mine more soon to see what I think. I have the hpi threaded bell, and I have a different spring then the traxxas one so that could be part of it.

Great for an experiement but I doubt you'll get much out of it. Its all well and good to have great top end but its not much point if you loose the bottom end at the same time. You probably need more bottom end than top when bashing anyway I reckon.
This is all for fun and for personal experiance not realy serious about racing rc's
