RE: Nubie, have lipo question
the wave blasters are a good sized rc boating club out in florida. would be a bit of a drive but not too bad hopefully. Plenty of places to rc boat in florida. Convince your buddy to get one and you guys can have grudge matches.

if you are only working with 150 rc boating may not be the thing for you right now. Your best bet would be to try and get something used.

RE: AquaCraft Motley Crew Off-Shore FE Catamaran
645 past 2 min is not recommended. Temps were high after a 4 min run. 2 min is still under 130. Pretty warm out here in CA. Those in cooler climates may be able to swing the prop with less heat. 645 on a stock motley crew or the mystic with the 1800 kv would likely be too much prop. an m445 is probably max there and i would recommended back cutting. If i get a chance i'll post some charts from the runs. Tried to keep it from getting too cluttered. Temp probe was around the motor wires where they enter the can. Actually surprised the motor made it back.

In the summer I normally run the m445, less speed but more runtime and less heat. I did run the m645 with 15* timing and then I lowered

RE: AquaCraft Motley Crew Off-Shore FE Catamaran
i have a prather 225, didn't care for it. That was with a 1500 kv though. Didn't seem to have the thrust. I think alot was being wasted as lift. The m445.. gotta love it. Though the 42x55 is starting to win me over. x645 is now my fav for the geico. Mostly cause i have quite a bit of time into it.

RE: AquaCraft Motley Crew Off-Shore FE Catamaran
i was heating up with the 445, but my motor is aged and it was in a slightly larger Ms. Vegas duece so that is definitely a variable. Also it was a fairly warm day. a 447 is gonna need to be watched but i am very interested, Seems like it might be too much diameter and cause some instabilities. I'm thinking about getting a x646/3 detounging, back cut and maybe reduce to like 44 mm. But then i'm not sure if 3 blades is where i want to be. I have a 645 i've been working on and it works real good with the 1500 proboat motor. Has anybody messed with the abc props, they have a couple that have me interested , but price is also a bit higher. Well this isn't a prop thread and i'm starting to talk about different motors and boats here so i'm done.

RE: Looking for the right prop .... here's what I have
i have a x645 i removed the tounge (copied an m series i had) back cut it about an 1/8th inch and cuped the tips up a bit. Seems like a good runner on my geico. Not with a stock esc or anything though. 80-90 amps on my set up.
ORIGINAL: stuball56 This thread died a while ago. I wonder why though. I have an MC and after some hellava problems at first it is now the most fun I've had in a long while. Mine is smooth as butter and carves the water like a razor. I just love this thing now that I have the bugs worked out. I like this RTR thing, but I do wish you had the option to just buy the boat without TX/RX or just a hull with hardware. I would like to have a Proboat Impulse 31 too. But then I'll have three radios! one for Summit, one for MC and one for Impulse. I don't know if the above poster is still active with his boat, but if so you probably know that the prop that is highly recommended is the X-455. I am going to try one today.
x455 is not recommended at all with a 5636 size can at 1800 kv.

it really isn't an ideal choice for a boat but i'm sure you could do something with it. Maybe on 2s in a smaller boat.

RE: AquaCraft U-18 Miss Vegas Hydro Thread_Make it Fast!
after looking over the set up a little more I think different batteries may be in order. On a 3 min run of almost wot i burned through 3000 mah so lugging around 6600 in the form of 2 4s cells at 3300 mah a piece, wired in parallel of course. Weight with out Batts is closer to 4.5 lbs if i remember correctly. I did try out some 2s 5000 mah 20c packs but they didn't seem to have to dump I want. Boat is running much better now though.

RE: AquaCraft U-18 Miss Vegas Hydro Thread_Make it Fast!
Latest update is I put a less powerful p spec motor in and also did some Sanding in the sponsons. They had a little bit of rocker side to side and I took off as much material as I could from the aft of the sponson to try put more of a pos angle an them in an attempt to get more lift. I also lightned the load by removing some extra resin and wood reinforcing but I maintained structural soundness. Seems to do much better up on plane and though the corner but exiting corners I seem to fall off a little and scrub a lot of speed. Could this be a result of having strut to high or is it more likely the fin?

RE: Harbor Freight Speedboat
ORIGINAL: alloutcustom Well it is up to you, all i can say is that the mini rio or a different hobby grade boat will be better, faster, and more parts/upgrades available. Its just like me saying should i get a Aero Ace or a Mini cessna(since your a Plane guy[:D]). Completely different options, however if you want quality, go with the cessna. BTW, the boat you are looking at is sub surface, and the mini rio is surface drive. Therfore the mini rio will be faster even tho the HF has dual motors. Also, id guess that those 380 motors are only seeing 3.6 volts each also, but i am not certain.
HF boat is surface drive.

RE: AquaCraft U-18 Miss Vegas Hydro Thread_Make it Fast!
ORIGINAL: amax I would move the CG back a little and work with strut\prop depth, I have experienced a similar problem but a bit more extreme with 3 blade props running to deep and causing the boat to porpoise and eventually Sub. I generally don't see it from a 2 blade prop because they don't have the ''Lift'' a 3 blade tends to have. Having your CG forward makes the stern Lighter, making it easier for a prop to ''Lift'' the stern(especially at high RPMs). The props most commonly used a considered ''Surface Props'' and are designed to ride Just under the waters ''Surface'' and even Breaking the Surface . When the prop is To Deep it will Try to ''Lift'' itself to The Surface, the faster it turns the harder it works to do so. Ideally you want your prop Just Deep enough to Stop it from Slipping. My theory as to why it seams to Trip over it's wake is: because as the boat does a Hop over the wake the bow is dropping faster than the transom, and the transom doesn't have enough of the weight to Push the Prop Down. Getting your CG right is not Just how it rides On the Water, you also have to consider how it will FLY and Land. You need the CG Just far enough back to Hold the Prop Down\Steady and Not allow the prop to just Free Float up and down, it's a Constant Balancing Act that Changes from moment to moment.
I like your theory as to why it is tripping up. I will be at the lake today making SMALL changes. For some reason i always felt like it was the fin that was sucking me back down, but after putting it here there and everywhere with similar results I am definitely redirecting my attention to the stern. Once again thank you for everyone's input, probably saved me tons of time.

Good point in the wing. Didn't think about that. I will be back at it tomorrow. (had a side job today). Gonna turn my focus to the strut height angle and cg. Jerry dunlap said he doesn't think the fin would do that. Thanks for the help everyone

RE: AquaCraft U-18 Miss Vegas Hydro Thread_Make it Fast!
ok well i set the strut angle to 0. Put the bracket for the fin at 90. I set up a straight edge across the top of the two sponsons and measured off of that. It still has the same tendency to want to submarine. Is the water too choppy? i thought it was much more mild then water one would encounter in a heat race. I really need this boat to be able to run 6 solid laps in race water. I'm still not 100 percent sure why it is subing, seems to be fine on one pass and then sub on the next. what gives. At low speed it seems like there is a lot of wetted surface, is that normal? Should i put the wing on to hold the stern down at higher speeds? I was thinking i could mod the tips of the sponsons to have some sort of an anti submarine pad. Would it be unadvised to attempt that? Lowering the strut from 7/8 to 3/4 would raise the front end right?

RE: Retrival Ideas
the one man is rated for 190 lbs, i"m only 160. It does fine, but i do take on a little water if i get in it too hard. I was worried about the 2 man getting too big. Now i know to get that one if my one man ever springs a leak. Again the fishing line works until the only thing sticking out of the water is the bow. Hard to catch a rudder or prop a foot or so under water. I all boaters should have a fishing reel with tennis ball or something like that for the stalls or crashes that happen just off shore, but for the ones that happen coming out of lets say corner 2 at legg lake. I don't know anybody that can cast that far.

RE: Size ESC Needed
ha, just read this over on offshore. Check your answer over there. I believe they are saying a 90 amp speedo would be good. If you expect to pull 50 amps i wouldn't get a 60 amp speedo for a boat. Since you will likely be using full throttle a lot, 10 amp head room isn't much. Can i ask why brushed? Is this stuff you already had? The worst brushless motor would probably be better then the best brushed motor in my opinion.

RE: Retrival Ideas
ORIGINAL: Ron Olson The rod and reel with a tennis ball works OK for dead boats that are within casting range but depending on how and why you have to retrieve a boat you may want another option. I take a Wal-mart 2-man inflatable boat with me, that, the oars and a electric pump for just under $50.00 will do the job. If the boat flips or gets hung up in weeds or whatever a little tug boat won't do you any good as then you may end up by trying to get 2 boats back.
that i what i ended up doing, wish i would have got the 2 man, cheaped out on the 1 man. Did get two collapsible oars and the pump though. Weeds could get your rc rescue boat stuck, you could have mechanical failure, Your vision can fail you, ( once you get 200+ ft offshore things start looking small it is hard to line up the rescue with a rc rescue boat.) I had a killer rc rescue jet boat, tons of low end push and maneuverable, but it was still a PITA to line the slip on the rescue boat up with my downed boat. And that is with a little 30 inch electric boat, couldn't imagine trying to pull a big ole gas boat full of water from a flip back to shore with a rescue boat would be a challenge to say the least. I say get the 50 dollar set up from walmart and bring a rug or blanket you can set your rescued boat on so the prop, rudder, trim tabs, turnfin, or anything else that happens to be sharp doesn't puncture the boat. So Plus 1 on wal mart set up.

RE: AquaCraft U-18 Miss Vegas Hydro Thread_Make it Fast!
It is actually pretty hard to measure the fin. I tried to measure off the straightest part of it and account for the AOA on the sponson. I'm gonna back the tuck off and I'm also working on some new linkage for the rudder. Another owner set it up with a z bend and a l bend with a retainer I guess. Any way it had the slightest bit of slop so I'm getting rid of it.
