RE: wall/field charging
You need to use a "Clean" 12V DC Power Supply that can provide serveral Amps of current. I use a computer Power supply that I modified. It can supply 9A at 12V. See: [link=http://www.marcee.org/Articles/PCPowerSupply.htm]http://www.marcee.org/Articles/PCPowerSupply.htm[/link]

RE: Walkera Dragonfly #36
I'm also having problems with my Gyro. When it is on the ground (stationary and not spinning) and I flick the rudder one way the servo responds really fast back and forth. If I go the other way it is quite slow to return to nuetral. If I bypass the gyro the tail servo reponds fast in both directions. If I spin it up and get it light on the skids, it responds quick in one direction but really fights the gyro in the other direction and hardly moves. In fact it yaws really slowly then actually yaws back a bit when you centre the stick again. During flight the gyro manages to keep the tail fairly steady, with only a slight drift to one side. After a while though I find that I am almost applying full rudder to keep it straight. I've tried doing a pyro a couple of times (in the direction that it responds ok in) but it actually yaws about 100 degrees then slows to a stop. When that happened i lost orientation and crashed. I've tried heaps of things including adjusting the nuetral position of the servo, adjusting the Sensitivity & Extent trim pots on the servo, and flicking the "Lei sure" switch. Still no luck. I was thinking my gyro must be stuffed but it sounds like similar things are happening other people. anyone have any ideas? or do I just need to get a better gyro?

Bodybuilder, I'm not exactly sure what rate the 650Mah NiMH batt should be charged at but I charge it at 0.4A on my swallow advance. Does anyone else have any suggestions as to what rate the 650mah NiMh batt should be charged at? The spare parts guy in Melbourne is getting a new shipment soon. He has got some parts at the moment though. I think I'll wait till he's got everything I need and get it together. Nathan

RE: I'm back and need help on my Dragonfly # 36
You may need to adjust your pitch. Does your motor slow down as you try to take off? If so, you probably have too much pitch. Otherwise try increasing your pitch a bit. Also, are you using a good charger (not the one it came with)? If the Batts are not charged properly that could cause your problem.
i use the Align 315mm wood blade... i think a 325mm would still be ok.
Jann, have the 315mm blades worked ok? I would have though that they would clip the tail rotor when you start to throw the heli around a bit or during a hard ladning? Thanks

RE: Walkera Dragonfly #36
Brett, Thanks for the tip on the parts in Melb. I've also been looking for a local supplier. I have only had to order one batch of parts so far and I got them from ebay (China). I went to a the melb Heli meet last time but I could only stay for 30 minutes or so. I will try to there on Saturday again and catch up with a few other #36 owners. So I might see you there. My #36 has the metalic blue canopy & stabilizers. Bodybuilder - If I see you at the heli meet I think I have a spare blade grip to get you going again. That was the first part that I broke too. I just broke another one the other night (I suggest you stock up on them because those and blades appear to be the first thing to break in a crash), my blades are pretty beat up too. I'm not sure if I'll have it flying again by the week end. Anyone who does go to the Melbourne Heli meet, bring all your spares so we can swap/sell if necessary. Cheers Nathan

RE: Walkera Dragonfly #36
hyperluminal - Bummer about your #36. Although before you go blaming the supplier you probably should read some more info on RC basics. ie. Always Turn on your Tx (with the antenna fully extended & the throttle fully down) before turning on the Rx (connecting the batt)! That is exactly why you should it. Also, with the Walkera Tx, make sure the 3D switch is set to N & the before you turn on anything. I hope it doesn't take too much to repair it. Good luck!

RE: Guess I messed up Big Time and need some advice Please !
the top one does look a bit burnt. The solder joint has a brown spot on it too. It may have melted the solder when it over heated. For $30 it might be worth just replacing the whole Rx unit. It depends how much patience you have and how good your electronics skills are. If you replace it with another brand you'll probably have to also get a new Tx, BEC (battery eliminator circuit), and ESC (electronic speed controller). This would be better in the long run but, you probably just want to get it flying again ASAP. I doubt you'll get a new Rx/Tx, BEC, and ESC to replace it for under $100.

RE: Guess I messed up Big Time and need some advice Please !
WOW! The diode was pretty much vapourised.... [:D] It appears to be this (the I is actually a 1 (one)) : 1N5819 Schottky diode 1A 45V Can't find it on the radio shack website but it is a common part. Try a specialist electronics store or do a google search. In regards to the MOSFET, take the cover off the Rx unit and take a photo, someone should be able to point out which component it is. It might look burnt anyway. check to see if anything else "looks" damaged. I think it is a black box looking thing with 3 pins (it's a type of transistor).

RE: Guess I messed up Big Time and need some advice Please !
So it looks like you'll need a new diode and MOSFET. Replacing the Diode shouldn't be to hard, like I said for the cap, just take it to an electronics store and get a new one, but make sure you connect it the right way. If you don't think you can handle replacing the MOSFET you can just buy a replacement Walkera Rx unit for US$30. OR take the opportunity to upgrade the Rx/BEC/ESC (they are all in the one Unit on the #36). But that will cost a lot more and you need to understand how to connect it all up, etc.
In fact, I think I recall you saying that you changed your servos? As I suggested in your other thread, you must reverse the tx switch for Pitch on the back of the TX (you need to reverse all the servos & the Gyro). If you did not do that then as you try to take off it will give negative pitch to you heli - hence why it is blowing air up!
Disregard the stuff about reversing the TX switches, I was thinking of someone else. You still have stock servos right? It still sounds like the switch for Pitch was set the wrong way to give you negative pitch.

RE: Guess I messed up Big Time and need some advice Please !
Hmm not sure about ceramic caps? I'm not an electronics guru, but I do know that generally they need to be connected with the correct polarity. Does it look burnt or cracked? I suspect the motor should spin up with out it? Any electonics gurus around that could suggest what would have happened? Where did the smoke come from? if it was from inside the motor you may have burnt out the wire winding. (I'm assuming it is the stock brushed motor?, it's a #36 right?) do you have camera to post a photo of the motor?

RE: Guess I messed up Big Time and need some advice Please !
Your motor/blades should spin clockwise when look at it from above. If it is blowing wind up then you pitch is not set correctly (you are getting negative pitch). It has nothing to do with your motor direction. You are supposed to be able to get negative pitch on your heli - this is what lets you fly upside down. Disconnect your motor (the red plug), power it up and make sure your servos are responding in the right direction (think about it carefully, it can be confusing). From memory I think there is a small capacitor across the motor terminals. If you changed the wires over it would have blown the capacitor (they must be connected with the right polarity) - unsolder it, take it to an electronics store and get a new one to put back on (make sure you get the polarity right when you put it back on). Make sure you put the wires back on the way they were originally. In the future you need to think more logically when troubleshooting problems. Do some study to understand how the helicopters work (real ones & RC), this will help you a lot. Hopefully you haven't damaged the motor. Good luck! [;)]

RE: How rubbish is the walkera #36
If you have replaced the servos, you need to reverse all the tx controls (with the switches on the back). Also you need to reverse the gyro (the REV switch), that would be why it was spinning.

RE: Walkera Dragonfly #36
The green and red lights on the stock charer have no relation to the charged state of the battery. I think one of them indicates when the power is turned on and the other indocates if the battery is connected or not. Do not use them to see if the batt is charged. I used the stock charger once or twice but I checked the battery voltage & temp continuously as I did it. Do yourslef a favour and buy a real charger vefore you blow something up[;)]

RE: Walkera Dragonfly #36
1- The tail rotor should be pitched in its normal position to counter the main torque from the main rotor. 2- I haven't had to adjust mine but I think you loosen the screws that hold the main frame together around the tail boom. 3- take off the ball link that connects to the blade grip, turn the link on to or off the linkage rod one turn at a time to adjust the pitch of the individual blade. 4- don't know haven't had to balance the blades yet. The manual is pretty useless.

RE: dragonfly 36 blades not in line
This is called blade tracking. It is important to get right. You should do it every time you change something on the head (like repalce rotor blades). To adjust it, work out which blade is tracking too high (using the red/blue tape on the ends), then take off the ball link that connects to that blade grip, turn the ball link (the part with a round hole in it) 1 turn clockwise then re-connect it and check the tracking again. Repeat this until both blades track at the same level. Adjusting these ball links changes the pitch on the individual blades to correct the tracking.
