RE: Falcon 120 Help!
My recommendation would be to use a bit of wooden dowel and glue it in the aluminum tubes. If you hit the deck hard you won't know if your spar is shattered and it might be on a large loop that you find out. They float I don't think you need to worry about weight.

Alternative uses for turbine engines
So what else have you used your prized turbine engine for? other than in a plane for thrust. I've got two so far. 1. Drying large areas - We have a large concrete area with a lacquer protecting a colouring, this doesnt absorbe water so it beads and hangs around for upto a week. So after cleaning the patio with a high pressure water cleaner, fired up my 8kg turbine (in plane), full throttle and used it like a 400 degree blower vac. Worked wonders. 2. Pissing off the neighbours - This happened to a friend doing engine tests and the police came and knocked on his door upon a neighbours noise complaint (all in one day only). Police told him off and to keep the noise to a minimum then asked if they could come in to see the jets because theyre so cool. Imagin if they asked to fire them up again, HA. Anyone else got some nifty uses for our expensive tin cans?

RE: Maj. Woody's Fei Bao L-39
has anyone else had cracking of the gelcoat paint on the top side of the wing above the retract. I have a hairline crack in the paint but the underneath carbon fiber looks ok. I've only had a handful of landings in this jet, all have been fairly good nothing that one would think was rough or hard. Debating wether to cut a big hole in the undernearth to review further and repair or if im just going to make a big mess. Perhaps the wooden structure which the retract is mounted too has seperated from the carbon fibre supports inside. At most this is all i can see, perhaps it just made the paint felx and crack. Any ideas guys, thanks

i just used the bolts, they lined up perfect. I used JR DS 3401 servos in the elevators. Let us know what you plan to use, they're small enough and expensive enough but at 4.6kg each i think, I'm concerned they're not enough. Anyhow i've had a few successful flights and they seem fine but i didn't try anything spectacular.

Just want to reinforce the value of buying through GJC as the service is top notch. If anything isnt how it should be then they're prompt to organise the needful without delays. You know how these chinese arf's are like, missing bits and pieces are the norm or lack of detail in instructions. I would only buy another jet from GJC, i've dealt direct before.... what a nightmare. Thanks guys!

fueltank fits if you turn it on it side and flex the fuse around the tallest part. given its rounded its fairly simple, i put mine in and out three times before the paint split just a tiny bit on the flush part. check your tank dont leak mine dod but i just used a bit of hysol to sort it out.. cg is behind the spar, im slightly nose heavy so ill be taking about 40grams of lead out of the front.

another point, i balanced on 109mm, or about 4 5/16ths i think as per Maj Woodys post. On a nice turn seems like she is dropping the nose slightly, perhaps marginally nose heavy. Anyone found that the nose wheel spring needs stiffening more, seems like on take off you have to yank on the elevator to get the bird off the ground. I suspect it is becuse the nose wheel is compressed down changing the profile of the aircraft to be lower at the nose. Any thoughts

RE: Maj. Woody's Fei Bao L-39
Hey guys, Maidened my l39 on wednesday, two good flights. With an K80 shes a rocket. First landing was hot but second was on the money. Can someone please advise of what post has the pic from the post above? Would like to see what everyone else is talking about. 32 mm of flap i went with seemed perfect, force the nose down so she dropped nicely, and flared upon the threshold to wash off the speed. Seems like the retract struts on the rear are a little flimsy (left to right) where the brakes pull them in. Anyone else experiencing this? I also have random retract / brakes. Brakes were fine the other week now theyre loosing air on one to two cycles. I tested lastnight on bench seems fine so i ll taxi test again this weekend. Anyhow here is a pic of my L39.

M4 should be fine I think my bolts were about an inch long. I got no special t tool. I used a tool with a bendy head which has m4 adaptor but you could get It in with a standard Allen (hex) key. All hex keys for all surface affixing. Took me awhile today but I figured out how to get my scale pilots and cockpit into the hatch. I'll post some pics soon

Jack, That's an amazing idea, I've done it quickly and I think its going to work a treat. 1. If the pipe moves it will ensure all thrust still goes out the pipe 2. It will ensure that the pipe won't collapse Anyone know the melting point of carbon fibre?? Jack is your l39 flying yet or still being built. Would love to know if you've had any issues, post a pic if you can too. My bellmouth is about 1-2inches long, I'm considering cutting it down more

Can you put a turbine in without a bellmouth or bypass? The bypass supplied is too small for a k80, can I run it straight into the supplied pipe, or is it a must to use a bellmouth or bigger bypass?

Kero start with the ew xicoy ecus as it just got repaired and new accessories were sent out. It used to have a 1" flame for a couple seconds but this new ecu has sorted that all out. New settings work a treat. I got some 3s a123 batts different capacitys depending on how much weight I need but do you just use regular diesal from a pump at a gas station?

Also, I've decided to put Jr ds3401 servos in the elevators, about 5kg torque each biggest mini servo I could find that fits. Should I be worried?? Repair Quality
Guys, Just got my k80f back after it hit the ground very hard. Damage was pretty bad but due to the mounting the turbine seperated and shot back during the crash. All accessories vapourised. Sent it off through my excellent Australian rep Ken and got it back very quick. Set it up on a test stand, primed it and fired it up first go with no issues. Think its actually configured better with the new ecu and pump no visable flame on kero start. Thanks kingtech, your customer service is some of the best don't let it change.

A set of those came with a esm warbird. Struts look exactly the same. My model comes in around 5kg and after a few landimgs one strut looks bent. A lite model up to .90-1.20 size they're fine..... a 8kg jet no way. The struts don't provide much suspension they're pretty stiff.

RE: Maj. Woody's Fei Bao L-39
Hey guys, I need a new home for my K80, after 109 flights in the modelbau tornado it hit the deck and is being repaired as we speak. I've loved the L39 for along time but didn't think that the k80 had enough balls to puah most of the scale l39's around till I found the fei bao kit. Thinking about getting it from globaljetclub with all the extras. Anyone got any opinions on this? Are the supplied extras from gjc suitable quality and worth the investment? I've read the entire thread and looks as if most of the structural issues have been resolved? Am I going to have to strengthen areas of the kit or is she ready to rock? Thanks, any input is appreciated

Sunday Flyer for a K80
Guys, I've had a modelbau tornado which served me well for just over 100 flights until the pilot made an expensive mistake being complaicent. Nothing survived expect the turbine. A few nasty dents but the report from Taiwan is its repairable. So I'm getting my beloved'K80f back that never let me down. What do I put it in that is almost as forgiving and can take off/land on short hard runways?? Had my heart set on a L39 but looks as if most mfg's build the for 120 size engines....might be a mission to get it off on a shorter strip.

Brad, Just finished my tigercat from asm...brought this model from austar models waiting for it to be delivered.. Planning to use an os 95v from the tiger at which only survived three flights due to structural failure...it was inevitable due to the poor quality model just wish it lasted a little longer. Anyhow surprised that I found you on here and have just finished reading 90% of this thread. I know the 95v is on the small side but have read a few using. 91s with success, i m after scale flight anyway. Hope your back is on the mend

RE: Jets and Aurora 9
Ive got an aurora 9 and a modelbau tornado. The radio i love, and its been very reliable. However i have had one incident with loss of signal in my jet. Fly-by down the runway which shortly after drops off into a valley, as i crossed over the end of leval land to valley i rolled for inverted flight and thats when it hit me. Turbine went to idle and tornado jet plummeted to ground as oppisite elevator went to nutral as with all orther surfaces. Lifted radio high as i could holding aleron to roll her over if it came back. Lucky enough 10m from the ground she rolled back and i pulled out and landed immediately there after. Pulled out the gsu for the kingtech ecu and checked for tx/rx loss. It had 9 frames loss equiling 0.6 seconds. Even got it on 1080p video, clear as day you can hear the turbine spool down and angle towards its immenant inverted death. Not that i believe that the radio rx/tx were at fault, i believe my positioning of the antennas in the rx were the cause. The main antenna (rear) which would have been recieving signal, was directly inline with the turbine in middle of the fuzz. I've since moved it higher towards the cockpit tub hoping that inverted flight with my tx facing the rear will still have a strong signal. A 650 degree buzzing turbine is sure to cause interferrance. It has not happened again, but inverted flight is always much higher now just incase... As with every setup, its always different but i believe that the radio is fine for Jets. (Im only new at this but have racked up 8 hours on my tornado with one incident) I suppose those odds are not great but If it happens again ill be sure to let everyone know My real concern is my next project 9 channels seems like its not enough.

RE: ASM F-7F Tigercat
Hey guys, Good news I maidened my tiger at today. Thanks for everyone's contributions especially brads. I did all the strengthing mods, but some custom alloy wheels and brakes and I suspect she's around 10kg. A fellow club member has a bigger scratchbuilt tiger cat and his feels a couple kgs lighter than mine. Powered her with two OS 95v`s lots of power. Pretty gnarly conditions and I'm sick of waiting so with a 30kph / 45kph gust I went for it. First flight went as expected bumpy and seemed slow but that's due to the strong winds, got it trimmed out and under control for 5 mins or so. When I powered off 1 meter before touch town boy did she drop, much worse than my tornado jet. Suspension took the brunt of it so no damage. Second flight went well but winds were getting worse so I called for landing, flipped gear switch and nothing. Tried several times and still nothing. Left it in the down possi and contemplated This being its last flight and that I better enjoy it. Did a couple circuits and out of no where they popped down. The relief was unimaginable, landed without incident. :) Moral of the story, Ive never had anything come undone before.. but this big girl has had several things vibrate loose. I was using a robart airvalve so Make sure you loc-tight the air valve ring screw so it doesn't come loose. Just had luck on my side today. Time to finish the doors and cowels now that she's flown. I'll post pics onece finished
