RE: 55 cc engine
It's a shame to throw away that nice prop hub. Why don't you put a new magnet in 180 degrees away, and just move your sensor mounting?? Super nice project and work!! AV8TOR

RE: Can I replace Gasoline with Kerosene, just like that ?
Model diesel engines use an adjustable "contra-piston" to manually adjust the compression. That would be pretty tough to duplicate on the gas engines we use with their one piece cylinder/cylinder head. RE: DAMAGE SHIPPING/MISSING PARTS ISSUES____Post here
Hi, Some time ago, I bought the Mustang shown below from you at NitroPlanes. I finally got it out today to start building it, and I see there are no instructions. Can you please provide me with the instructions/manual for this airplane? Also, do you have any word on when you might get the CMP Christen Eagle or similar back in stock?? Thanks, AV8TOR Sorry for the multiple post, I believe this is the correct spot for this post... Hadn't had my morning coffee yet; brain fade. [;)]

RE: Walbro, tillotson....universal problem?
You are correct about the prop being partially stalled on the ground in a static situation, but that means more drag on the prop and load on the engine, not less. The engine unloads in the air as the airplane approaches the prop pitch speed. (If you don't believe me try some data linking and watch your rpms in flight.) A climb will then load the engine, and on an non-pumped fuel setup, lean the mixture. AV8TOR

RE: Ryobi backfire problems
I use blue Loctite on all my prop hubs, and never have had one come off. Some of the suppliers recommend using JB Weld, but I don't think that is necessary. I am a little confused as to why you are running a flywheel when using Gas/Glow? When there is enough shaft sticking out, I make my prop hubs so that they extend back over the straight part of the crankshaft, and use a couple of set screws for extra security, but I have several engines that don't have this feature and they work without problems. Also, too much choking can make them backfire sometimes. AV8TOR

RE: Gasket sealant for gas engines
Well, this will probably get a bunch of people fired up, but I don't ever recommend that any gasket sealer be used for carb gaskets. Secondly, silicone sealers should never be used where there is exposure to gasoline. The gas turns the silicone to "jelly", and then it starts breaking off where it has squeezed out of a joint or gasket interface, and running around in the engine 'till it causes problems, and whatever it is attempting to seal will no longer be sealed as well. My choice when I use a sealer at all is Yamabond, or Loctite # 518. AV8TOR

RE: Running your carb dry?gas engine
Coleman fuel has an octane variously stated between 40 and 60, but very low none-the-less.... I would NOT run it as my flying fuel, though I do use it as a storage fuel. When running my engines on Coleman fuel to purge the carb/engine of the flying gasoline mix, they run very noticeably hotter, even just on a quick ground run. I know, lots of people say they fly with Coleman fuel with no problems, but do you want to risk your high dollar engine AND plane on it?? AV8TOR

RE: Conversion to Gas?
I tried it on some Echo 21 to 25cc engines, and some Homelite 25 and 30cc engines, with varying compression ratios, various glow plugs, with full time glow power and without, and various mixtures of ethanol based fuels. For me, the results were unsatisfactory. As I mentioned, others here have had some varying degrees of success, and a search will bring up their threads. The glow plug really needs methanol for proper catalytic reaction with the platinum in the plug. OS Engines briefly advertised that they were going to release some engine(s) that were set up for ethanol fuels, but I haven't heard any more news, nor seen any of the engines yet. Perhaps they found it wasn't feasible, I don't know. I settled on our present "Gas/Glow" system (using methanol based fuel and gasoline), as being the best all around compromise, and they work very well. Good luck on any experiments with ethanol and glow plugs, and please keep us updated on your progress. AV8TOR

RE: GAS/GLOW HOW TO....
I usually run a 16 x 8 on my 25cc engines, but a Cub would most probably fly better on an 18 x 6. Using onboard glow power is optional. They usually idle slower and more reliably than a spark ignition engine, even without glow power. If you want to use onboard glow, I would suggest one of the "C" size 4000 mah Nimh batteries from www.cheapbatterypacks.com. They are only around 5 bucks, and will run full time glow for over an hour. If you use an onboard glow driver that cuts off the glow power above say, 1/4 throttle, the onboard battery would last for hours probably. But once again, that is optional, as they work pretty well without onboard glow power. Good luck, and sorry about your divorce.... I am going through the same thing. [:o] AV8TOR

RE: 85cc Tecumseh, conversion?
No, sorry but I don't have any experience using Gas/Glow with the Tillotson carbs. The only thing you could do is try and see if the carb works without developing problems due to the Gas/Glow fuel. If I had to guess, I would say that it would work, but only trying will tell for sure. On all of my engines, including regular gas/ignition system engines, I have gone to using a "storage fuel" after flying to help the carb diaphragms live longer with the additives found in many of todays gasolines. There is a thread here in engine conversions about that deal. Good luck, AV8TOR

RE: Conversion to Gas?
There have been a few here that have had various levels of success using ethanol based fuel and a glow plug. However when I tried it several years ago when we were first sorting out the Gas/Glow system, I didn't have much luck. The engine misfired badly on E-85 based fuel. AV8TOR

RE: 85cc Tecumseh, conversion?
Looks like it might be a Tillotson carb on it. It doesn't appear to have a float chamber, so why not use the carb that's on it?? AV8TOR

RE: 77cc Chrysler ?
If I am understanding you correctly, the crankshaft has needle bearings both front and rear. If that is true, you will need to come up with a way to deal with the thrust loads. If there is room, or if you can make room, you can use bronze washers to withstand the thrust of the prop pulling, and/or the use of a starter. AV8TOR

RE: Store gas engine during winter in plane
It may be a regional fuel thing, but I all of a sudden had diaphragms going bad in as little as four to six weeks. That's why I came up with this storage fuel idea. So far no problems encountered since I switched to doing this as outlined in the other thread. AV8TOR

RE: Conversion to Gas?
You can certainly convert it... The trick is whether you want to convert it to run on less oil as well. You can just buy an ignition from, for example www.ch-ignitions.com and run it on a mix of gasoline and 12% oil. If you want to lower it's oil requirment as well, that takes more work. You have to change the rod bearing from a bushing to a roller bearing. For this, search info from Ken Lambert. Here's his website: http://lambertsrc.homestead.com/ Good luck, AV8TOR

RE: Honda GX-31 and Giant Eindekker??
Hi, How did you make the camshaft base circle smaller? Sanding it? Yes, I was running it with a Zinger prop; I'm going to try an APC next. Yes, I did take out the compression release mechanism. It easily starts by hand now. The blender is a kick. As I was building it I worried a bit that it might need a centrifugal clutch, but that's not a problem. Even full of hard to chop up ice cubes, fruit, etc. it starts easily and blends well at an idle! Revving it up is just for effect... BTW, if anyone is contemplating the Eindekker and Honda 31, the balance came out perfectly with the rudder and two elevator servos mounted in the rear. No added weight necessary to adjust c.g. It was super simple to cut openings for the servos in the rear of the fuselage. AV8TOR

RE: Honda GX-31 and Giant Eindekker??
That might help. I don't care about speed with this particular airplane, but it would be cool if it could pull itself over the top of a loop. Even with a dive before hand to grab some extra speed the loops are egg shaped as it is now.... AV8TOR
