Anyone remember this plane?
Hi All, I remember watching VHS videos of my dads from model shows in the 1990's when I was a kid and there was always a plane I wanted but never got and I can't remember the name of it. I think it did a display at TOP GUN 1991. It was .30-.40 size in all black in Zap glue scheme I think and it was mental and spun sooooooo fast. I think he launched it by swinging it from the wingtip. It was kind of similar to a President FunFly model I think. Anyone know the model I mean? Cheers, Alan

RE: Mid Air...need advise
I've never heard of flying models in one pattern only, don't think theres a club in the UK that does that, I would definatly never join one. There is a general pattern based on wind direction but that makes sence. The only difference is if you are doing something unusual you call it, "landing", "taking off", "Low pass left to right", "Low pass right to left", "Dead stick" "loop up the middle" and my usual favourite "I'm messing about low level call if you want me out of the way" :D. I've always used the rule that mid-airs are always bad luck, don't fly what you can't afford to crash. I'm sure there are occasions when people are in the wrong but they are usually incidents where some arrangment should be made (help repairing etc..) like a mid-air on takeoff or on a landing where some respect should have been paid to the "called manouver". As people have said, don't fly with the wrong people or the wrong models. If a large or a fast model takes off just give them that slot and wait till after, the same for heli's and aero's. Its supprising how little curtesy some modellers have, at the end of the day we're all in it for the fun. :D

RE: has anyone flown the new 50cc size black horse corsair
50cc is plenty of power, I don't know what my dads using, I think its a chinese 50cc but one of the better ones. It'll torque roll and climb out on the 50cc so an 80cc will kill it! I've never flown at altitude but I can't imagine needing any more power and I am generally a demanding pilot. One thing I must say is the undercarrage looks small but have been great in use and stands up fine.

Opening Canopy
Hi, I thought this was the best place to ask. I would like to make an opening canopy on my EDF MIG29 but I was wondering if anyone has a picture of existing methods. I thought you turbine flyers are more likely to have done this any EDF modellers so I asked here. Being an lifting style (made up term :p) canopy locking it down is my main problem as I only want to use one servo to lift it and lock it down. Can anyone help? Cheers, Alan

RE: Control twin engine rpm?
As said above, get the both running reliably (setting them up individually) and if the bottom, middle & top throttle rpms are somewhere near each other then you will be fine. I always tune the engines to peak and then a few clicks rich for reliability. Done this on many twins and fours. Its not important to sync them, I have done quite a few different multi's now that I mostly do it by the engine sounds these days. Reliability is 100 times more important then syncing rpm's!
ORIGINAL: Sandmann_AU What's the odds of the final product having that level of details... guns in turrets, painted "bird cages" on canopies etc? I'm guessing these are most likely "user added scale up possibilities".
It is all standard apart from the bomb bay on the lanc which is optional according to my source. Oh and things like the wrong shape canopy will be fixed.

RE: Maintaining Even RPM... HOW???
I have only checked the engine speeds once, didn't ever bother again. I've set up about 10+ different multi's and the key thing is reliability. I set each engine up individually and then run them a couple clicks rich. Then hold the model up with both engines running, if they are by some weird twist of fate largely out of sync then you will hear and feel the difference then just get a tacho and set the end points and centers in the TX to roughly match rpm's. This is all assuming you have checked the carb is roughly half open at mid stick during setup. It is the only way I have ever set up twins and the only way I ever will. There are twin sync's etc..... available but in my opinion they are completely unessary. Golden Rule = Reliability is more important than syncing.

Strange to see there's no lanc in the poll, why not? I may be wrong but didn't a mosquito carry the same as a b17! Yet a lanc which had an awesome bomb load isn't there! Perhaps the me109 won the war, because it killed so many of germanys pilots on landing. :P lol I love sturing trouble!

RE: To sync,, or not to sync,, an interesting question indeed!
ORIGINAL: rcmiket My 2 cents. Get them to run. Never used a tach. Set one at a time to run "reliable". Never had a flame out or problem. The K.I.S.S. principle works every time.
Exactly! I've been pretty much been flying nothing but twins for last year or 2 and reliability is the key syncing is pointless in my opinion. Yes I've had a couple engine outs (no problem though, its part of owning as multi), but its always easy to recover, just when you feel like a engine is gone or can see one is out, throttle off to 30% and slowly open the throttle whilst adding the rudder (if your planes evil then you will reach full rudder and stop applying the throttle, most don't, mine only use half rudder) then procede into a smooth curcuit (preferably into the live engine but not nessersairly) and land, simple! The key thing just is don't panic and fly smooth. I think if I lost an engine on a DH88 it may be trickier but this is that I do on my tigercat, herc, p-61 etc....

RE: ASM C-130
Hi, In my opinion that crash in the video (http://www.trentonrcflyers.com/videos/c130demise.wmv) was a stall. I have flown the ASM C130 and its a draggy airframe. From that video I can hear the engines being throttled off (to I guess half or less throttle) in the turn, I can see the initial warnings and spin forming. Yet it seems from the way the model reacted the pilot opened his engines (correct) but kept that up elevator further prevoking it and worsening the stall. After that first 30 or so degrees of that turn the plane was completely stalled and going in unless the pilot had put in full down elevator to increase speed. After flying the C130 I simply don't believe that there is a design fault with the airframe. The one I flew was nice but draggy, as long as you kept speed it flew fine, I even rolled and looped it. Even the stall was predictable and recoverable when I prevoked it, even in the video it didn't do anything perticually nasty, it just started a spiral dive, it wasn't even a real spin. We have all stalled planes before, unfortunatly its a "live and learn" thing. Its just my 2 pence. Alan

RE: New "Harmony" sport twin!
I had a go of on of these and it flew very well. I have no clue what was in it but it went like clappers, nice Sideslip passes, knife edge, 4 pointers, spins even a little bit of prop hanging at height etc. Flew like just like a normal sports plane apart from being a bit faster (but it was a very windy day so can't judge that properly), it slowed up nice for landing aswell. Not my kinda plane as I prefer scale multi's but it was fun to play with. [:D]

RE: disappointed with false advertising
This is hypothetical as I don't know thier situation but could the websites have been showing a second generation model and you bought a first generation. Even if you bought it when second generation advertising was out saying it is covered in solartex whats to say that the dealer you bought it from hasn't had it "sitting on the shelf" for a while back from when they were not solartex covered? This would explain why some are of different films and there would not be false advertising. If it says on your box however that its solartex then thats wrong and you should ring and enquire.

RE: ASM P-61 kit Build
Ron, Yeah, I have had both engines out, one on each side on two diffrent flights. I was on a full size runway both times perfoming left hand circuits. When the left died at about 20 feet high I decided to just land up the runway as I had mile of room about half rudder and some aileron it was fine. When the right hand engine decided to quit I was at about 20 feet again. I opted to perform a circuit as I was turning into the live engine and it took half rudder again and some aileron aswell, I tried to keep speed consistant as it maintained its height. I made shure the turns were wider than normal and kept them gentle, it behaved nicely and I brought it back to a landing just like the ones before with flaps down aswell. I did not try turning into the dead engine but I think it would do it but you would really have to be careful of speed and be on that rudder (because its into the dead engine it would be more tricky but I think possible). It is one of the most predictable aircraft I have ever flown, you will know what I mean once you fly it. The main charachteristic's of an engine out is that it slows down quite quick (so you need to be smooth to keep speed up) and it yaws a bit (so you need to be on that rudder). Jimmy Bananas, Sorry I couldn't help I just don't know enough about them to give accurate info. [:D]

The gear doors are not shut because the design was wrong and there are no front doors as he ran out of time to add them before we had to test and sort it for the model show but I can't see what you mean about the wheel, I remember them locking up every time. The manufacturer has changed the design of thr retracts, not my friend, so production ones should be miles better. Sorry for the confusion. [:D] The P-61 has been out in the heat during the summer at the field and I haven't noticed a difference.

RE: C-130 Engines, Can you Mix Displacement?
I know of a few planes with diffrent inners and outers. MY lancaster will have 52's inboard and 40's outboard. As long as the engine pairs are the sam eits not a problem. If you lose an engine you just shut the matching engine off (or throttle back a bit if you need the power) and fly on the other 2 (usually decending striaght into landing). I have flown 4 different multi's and know of another 4 on my club and none of us synk our engines. Make shure they run nicely individually are couple clicks rich and all is ok. Alan

RE: ASM P-61 kit Build
Black Drape, The plastic has held up fine. There was a engine out on the test flight (in the worst place in the field at exactly the wrong time) and it had to land out, in a farmers ploughed field. This broke the front undercarrage out and split the plastic. This was repaired with some fibreglass on the inside and its its back to normal. Having flown the DH88, Hercules and 2x P-61's (on loan from the UK distributer) I have no worries about the bodys being made from plastic, it keeps them light and cheap but is still pretty durable. There's more pictures from where that came from by the way. [:D] When I can afford a new multi of my own I will get the P-61 and detail it as much as possible. [link=http://img530.imageshack.us/my.php?image=060915coltbobday207fi6.jpg][/link] [link=http://img522.imageshack.us/my.php?image=060915coltbobday196fn2.jpg][/link] Jimmy Bananas, My dad built one of the P-61's and he used fixed retracts (its a prototype so retracts were not available. My friend tony built the second one that had retracts and he had a few problems with thier design, from his encounters the design was changed (I have no clue what parts specifically) so the one in the pic is nothing to go by. As I say my dad and his friend built the planes so I can't help with that, but any questions in regards to them generally and flying them I would be happy to answer. We have none of these planes anymore as they were built for the UK distributers model show and have now been sold on or are to be used by thier display team. Shame, I enjoied flying them all. How dare they take back something they own. [;)][:D]
