RE: Ultimate #36 Mod Thread (& Shogun Parts)
Great job and explainations. Ive just got to ask? With all the mods and expense, why not just go with a Trex?

RE: Complete newbe to helis Walkera Dragonfly #36
jnguyen If you don't want to be discouraging, dont be. I have a DF36 its my first Heli. I have flown Airplans a lot and have used the SIM. It is difficult but I am happy that I chose the one I did. I figured if I bought the DF4 I would get board quickly and probably give up on the hobby. Just take you time and enjoy! Yes you may crash it and it may be frustrating, but its also challenging and a lot of fun. I disagree with jnguyen, I think you may learn a lot and really enjoy this fun hobby. Good luck with your new toy!

RE: Beginner - X400 and Walkera
I went back to ebay to look up the Taiwan dealer and couldn't find him again. Interestingly I found one in China that says they are using a dragonfly radio??? X-400 Helicopter Assembled 6 Channel Transmitter with Pitch Control (3D possible) 72Mhz Mode 1 / Mode 2 , 35Mhz with Dragonfly ch radio It was 259 for the RTF version which is very cheep. I know nothing about the company so I wouldn't recommend them but you can find it easy enough by visiting ebay. The transmitter looks a little different but its hard to tell from the pictures which appear blurry.

RE: Beginner - X400 and Walkera
Yeh, I have seen a seller on Ebay that sells the ARK 400 for a very low price but in the small print is the radio info that it includes Walkera electronics. That is really where most of the money is on the helis from what I have seen. Frome the very little research I have done, Barebones I don't think there is a lot of difference between the different company prices for the same size heli.

RE: 22E high elevation flying
I use to live at about that elevation and flew RC airplanes a lot. It was a challenge to get them off the ground without a large engine. The air density really effects the lift. They came down quickly and you had to land them hot. You would have to go with a bigger engine than what was usually required. I have not tried a heli at that elevation but I would imagine it would be the same. I even recall some Real Airplanes crashing because the pilots were not farmiliar with the effects of air density. They would fill the tanks and head out in the wind and turn and drop out of the sky. Some of the things that really help is to get the weight down to a minumum and then to make sure you have plenty of power. I would think a brushless motor would do wonders.

I don't know how long it will last but I bought a charger for a little over 9.00 and also a lipo for a about 33.00 2200ohm. http://stores.ebay.com/HeliDirect_Batteries-Chargers_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZQ2d1QQfsubZ6QQftidZ2QQtZkm is a link to the ebaystore. Its worked for me so far but I have no idea how good e-power is so it may take some time to find out.

RE: Walkera Dragonfly #36
BLBncsu I just got a #36 and its my first heli too. Mine has worked great. I bought a lipo and that is all I have added. It will get right off the ground and fly. The only really adjustments I made were to the tail rotor linkage and too the gap on the motor to the main gear. It was very tight. I am very new and it is hard to fly. Just taking my time but its fun! I haven't had the radio glitches or anything like that which others have talked about. At least not yet.

RE: Heli keeps turning right.....
I had the same problem. I don't know what the correct terminaligy is but the rotor had to be slid out on the shaft a little further. To fix it you have to: ~Set trim tabs to the middle then unclip the battery and turn off the radio. ~Unclip the ball links ~Remove the set screw on the piece that the tail blade grips are attached. (there is a flat place on the shaft where this tightens down. Be sure to put it back on the flat place when you re-assemble. ~Remove the tail blade ~Loosen the set scews inside the blade grips and then slide it out a little. I moved mine out about 1/8". The shaft was a little bit inside. ~Tighten all the screws and put it back together. ~You can then loosen the tail server holder screws so it will slide the linkage further out on the shaft. It should be somewhere in the middle and the blades should have almost no pitch when it is. Hope that resolves your problem. It fixed mine and I was then able to trim it out and it worked great!

RE: Walkera 36 or 60
Ebay. The seller has a lot of them for sale. Of course it was an auction so you have to bid but I have seen some go for a little less at this seller. I had it in my hands just a few days after the auction. I was very happy with the process and the good shipping and sale. The seller also had a lot of positive feedback. I don't know how they sell them for their prices but they were great to work with. I would buy for them again without hesitation. I am no heli expert, this is my first one. I have had it off the ground a few times and it is a handful but fun! Still learning how it all works but I have to say the flight issues that I have had thus far have been my lack of experience not because of the Model. A bit much for a beginner model so I am trying to take it slow and not spin it into the ground in a million pieces. I think I might be catching the Heli addiction. Flying a Helicopter this size is very difficult (I don't know about larger ones because this is the first one I have tried). The hardest thing for me so far to learn has been to not sit on the ground for a long time letting it spin up. I was so hesitant the battery didn't have much time after I fooled around with it. If you spend a lot of time on the ground and slowly build up to takeoff, then it seem the battery does not have much power and its harder to lift off. When I wind up quickly and take off, it seem to have plenty of power and is more stable. On the downside however to the quick take off is the ability to quickly crash and end up with a bunch of pieces, not something I want to do too soon (highly likely at some point however). The forum here has been most helpful! I read and read before I even made the purchase. I felt pretty knowlegable on the subject before getting involved so it didn't suprise me at all that it was a difficult thing to master, if I ever do.

Thank you for the help!. You answered my question on how to do this also because I was just going to loosen the set screw thinking that would work. They both have a negative attack angle and the same angle.

RE: Walkera 36 or 60
This is my first Heli. The #36 does appear well made. The radio seems to respond well and I have not had any real issues yet. I did have to do some setup on it. The main issue I had was the tail rotor. The heli spun to the left no matter how much the trim was adjusted. Took out the set scews on the tail rotor assembly and slid the mechnism out a bit and then moved the servo a little to center the rotor assembly. Worked great after that. It was the first time I have worked on a heli but it was a pretty simple process. All the fittings were tight and I really havn't done anything else. I have only had it a short time. Time will tell if I don't spin it into the ground too soon. Bought it for $91 New. The latest version. That price is hard to beat.

#36 Gyro Light Color
I just received my new Walkera #36. When I start it up, the gyro light goes red and stays red. Is is suppose to change to green or is red the right color? Also, tail servo doesn't move quickly when I move the rudder control back and forth. Is this because of the gyro controling it? Thanks!

high capacity NiMH Battery for Walkera #36
I see a lot about using a Lipo Battery for the Walkera 36. What about the larger NiMH packs. Are they too heavy? I have seen some high capacity ones that look fairly small in the 1100-1800 MA range and weigh from 6-9 oz. Is that too much for the heli?

RE: Walkera 36 or 60
I just ordered a 36. I would say however if you can pay the price, the 60 is probably going to be much better. From some I have heared the new electronics with the 7 channel transmitter as suppose to be much better. I don't know about the frame being aluminum. Someone told me it was actually steel but I have not seen one personnally.

RE: 22E or 36
Yes, I would like to get a Brushless and also a good Lipo eventually. I think I will get it tuned and try it out asis first just to get an idea of how it works. Not having a lot of power or flight time will probably be a good thing for me starting out. I got a very good deal on it, hopefully??? From what I have read in these forums, it may or may not be all working when it arrives. For the cost, NIB, even if it has a few issues, it would be hard to beat just to see if this is the right hobby for me. I have flown plans for years but never a heli and I understand it is a very different animal.

It will be my first heli and I am excited to get started flying one finally! Thanks for all the good posts and helpful info throughout the forum, it is a great help making a decision.

22E or 36
I have been thinking about getting one of these two. The 36 looks like the better option but when looking at videos of the two the 22E appears to fly better and the comments on are more favorable on the 22E. Even Walkeras videos of the 222E are much more impressive than the 36. So which is really the better choice? Is the 36 really a threeD capable Heli (I have not seen any videos of one doing 3D manuvers). Lots of videos of 22E in 3D. Thanks!

RE: Walkera Dragonfly, good or not ?
deflyer22 why are the better? the two you mention have the separate tail motor that I hear can be a problem. The Blade has to get an upgrade kit to have 3D. Talking with some I have heard that esky uses the same radio as Walkera and they have similar issues. The 36 seems to have some good advantages over the other two.

Good comments on Walkera #36
I am just thinking about getting into RC helicopters. I have flow plans for years. I have also been using a FMS SIM for a few months getting use to some of the controls differences. I do realize that the SIM and the real thing will be a lot different. The SIM seem pretty easy since I already have some of the basic RC skills out of the way. I just can't imagine a real RC Helicopter as being as forgiving and stable as the SIM. I have researched the new Walkeras quite a bit and there are some things I really like about the #36. No tail motor Tough build Great price Upgradeable Lots of parts available Everything included in kit Some owners with very good comments about them. On the downside however, a lot of warnings in forums about their quality, poor support. I don't mind doing all the set-up and tinkering with the settings to get it set up properly. I am just concerned with what I will have after it is all set up. I am wondering if all the griping and complaining is just from a few unhappy customers and if there are a lot of happy customers that just don't express their opinions? I understand it is not a TREX but its also a lot more affordable for someone starting out. Is Walkera really that bad? If you honestly like the Walkera #36, I would like to hear your thoughts.
