RE: How to You fly, after fighting with wife
That's funny because my wife is pissed at me right now because I bought another plane. I thought it was only my wife but I am beginning to notice a trend.

RE: Should I Quit
I know people will say you don't have to crash planes to learn. They must not have been at my field because everyone I know has crashed numerous planes. Unfortunately it is part of the learning process. Some day you will be the guy consoling the newbie about the plane he just crashed. It's the circle of life.

RE: Why Is 3D Hated?
I think people that have an issue with 3D probably have issues with others groups as well. I have been a member of four clubs (I move a lot). I liked and respected all the different types of flying. With that being said all the clubs had clicks and conflicts between them. Can't we all just get along.

Up your spending limit to $1000. Buy a good used 50cc plane with a DA 50 in it. It will take you a while to grow out of it and they fly great. Get someone with experience to help you pick a good used plane and teach you to fly it.

RE: ARF's ruined my hobby
The diversity is what makes the hobby great. Personally I like to fly giant scale 3D but at my field there are small electrics, scale war birds, jets, etc. I say different stokes for different folks. If it weren’t for the diversity the hobby would be boring. Build your models, be proud of them and have fun.

RE: Extreme Flight 110 Yak with DA 150
Ok I tried the 32A Vess and I changed my mind. This thing is awsome. I would not put a DA 120 on it if someone gave it to me. The throttle response is unbelievable. I burp the throttle and I can bounce the plane up and down 3 feet at a time. It is so easy to tail slide. I can walk it down the runway in a harrier or hover it with total control. I would recommend this to anyone considering it.

RE: Extreme Flight 110 Yak with DA 150
Ok, the 150 is now on. I don't know if I can recommend it. Right now I would say if money was not an issue I would go with the 120, if you are looking to save big $ go with the used 150. The good news is it fits and looks like it is supposed to be there. There is plenty of prop clearance and the engine fits in the cowling with about 1/4 inch stand offs. I did add a ply sheet behind the firewall but only because the original one was cut out to accommodate an engine with a rear carb. If I was putting it in a new airframe I don't think I would do anything to it other than mount it. They have triangle stock behind and in front of the firewall so there is not too much you can add unless you cut it apart. The engine with the prop and muffs cost me $925. I just bought a DA 120 for my pitts python that cost over 1300 so through in a prop and you are over a $500 difference. Yes this is new vs. used cost. The bad news is the plane now weighs 33lbs. (I did not weight the wing tubes initially so it was probably close to 29bs with the DLE 111) I had to add just under a pound to the tail to balance it out. I could shorten the firewall but I don't think saving 14oz would be worth it. I may put heavy life batteries in the rear and remove the weight but that would only save about 5 oz. I have the same lipo set up I had in it before. As for power I initially had a mejzlik 30 x 12. It had a slow spool up. I went to a Xoar 30 x 10 which was much better. I did not change out the fuel tank, 32 oz and just ran it out of gas at 10 minutes. The plane landed in the dirt and pitched up on the nose cracking my prop. I just ordered a 32a vess prop so I will see how that works. With that being said if I took this plane down to Phoenix it would probably be ballistic, I just have to live with the fact I am at a high altitude and you are not going to get a ballistic plane, unless the vess comes through. Don't get me wrong it does pull the plane around like it weighs 5 lbs. it just won't rocket out of a hover. My pitts airframe, electronics etc. weighs about 1 lb. less than the Yak without the engine so when I get that going I will be able to compare the two. I think it will they will be close, one with less power but lighter and one with more power but heavier. I will let you know.

I fly at Chino Valley Model Aviators. I've been up here for about a year. I used to live in North Phoenix and flew at Sun Valley Fliers for years. The field itself in Chino is OK. There is a lot of nice guys that fly there. They are in the process of finding a contractor to put in a new runway. Our new president is on the ball. When it is done it should be really nice. It is out of the way and noise is not an issue.

I should add the I ran the 116 with no needle changes for one year before the piston failed. The plugs were the tan, not too lean. I don't think he ran it too lean. It knocks immediately. Something was defective. I am sure that happens to 1 in 1,000 or whatever the number is. No manufacture is flawless.

Reference to the picture above. I am like Rush Limba, right 99% of the time. Just in case you are wondering I had a BME 116 that did the same thing and that's how I knew. For the record I have a DLE 111 and it is awsome. It has power just under the 116 and 120 at half the price. I would recommend them to everyone and anyone.

RE: DLE-111 first start... warranty used, but things are looking good.
The question is will it turn over freely. If it does it may be prop related, if not I think if you pull the jugs off you will see a piece of metal that broke off or came off somewhere in the engine and part of it has impacted on the top of one of the cylinders. The tapping sound is from the piece of metal hitting the jug head. The the engine stopping abruptly and the prop breaking is what happens when something is broken and you run it a 6000 plus rmp. You may want to call where you bought it from before you pull the jugs, they may not warrantee it after you take it apart.

If I had an engine knocking like that I wouldn't run it up in the first place. Mabye it is just the sound in the video but I have never heard an engine make a noise like that unless something was broken or bouncing around inside and when you keep running it it ends like that one did, complete engine failure.

RE: Extreme Flight 110 Yak with DA 150
Now I just need to raise some more funds. I don't think it will take long to sell my DA 110L but I probably won't get it back from DA for at least a week. I will post pics as the build goes along. Also you proably noticed I changed the tail wheel assembly. I did not like the way the other one looked and I like it direct connect better. You have a lot more postive control on the ground when steering.

RE: Extreme Flight 110 Yak with DA 150
I already had the linkage so all I did was mark off where I wanted the servo, cut out the balsa and glue ply in behind it for strength. I found out the rudder is hollow so I cut open one side and cut part of a 1 inch by 12 inch hardwood stick to fit and glued it in place inside. Then I recovered it with balsa and ultracote. I then drilled the hole through it and tapped it for the control arm. I mounted my lipos, smartfly and receiver on top of the rudder tray. If I could figure out how to attach pictures I would.

RE: Extreme Flight 110 Yak with DA 150
Bubbagates I think you are right. Im going to do it. What the hell, it will be fun if nothing else. I will have to watch the stall but really the weight will barely be over the designed weight with the DA 100 on tuned pipes. I will go with a 30 x 12 mejzlik. I will reinforce the firewall. I moved the rudder servo to the rear on a direct link already which should help the plane balance. It is very tail heavy now with the DLE on the front. The difference between the two engines cap to cap is 2 inches so 1 on each side. I should have about 1/4 inch to spare. Luckly the DA is 1 inch longer than the DLE but the DLE is on 1 inch standoffs so that will be perfect. When I had my BME 110 on the Hanger 9 sukhoi in Phoenix when I would pull out of a hover it looked like the engine was trying to pull the front end off the plane. That is the effect I want. With that kind of power you are right, the plane gets a little sideways and you just hit the power. Check out this video. http://en.kendincos.net/video-rflvhjvh-chudzik-xavier-cmcp-2010-yak-54-110-extreme-flight-freestyle-full-3d-da-150cc-desert-aircraft.html

Not to sound cheap but did I mention a used DA 150 is 800 and a DA 120 is 1200 plus 500 for tuned pipes and headers = 1700.

My Yak with the DL 111 is 27 1/2 pounds. I figure with a DA 150 it should be about 30 pounds. Also where I fly noise is not an issue.

RE: Extreme Flight 110 Yak with DA 150
Its the altitude that is the issue. I use to fly in Phoenix at about 1200 ft. A DA 100 on stock mufflers would pull 35% planes out of a hover with authority. Up at 5200 it is a different story. I am thinking about running a 30 x 10 mejzlik on the 150. With the 28 x 10 on there now even when the plane is sitting level I have 6 inches of prop clearance so that should not be an issue.
