Thanks Greg, good to know. I also would like 3-blade props on there! I just got mine, so me may be going for a winter flight if weather keeps up.

The fans I added, added more weight in the rear, and I wasnt easily able to move the batts more forward without modding the canopy. The power seems slightly improved, but not enough for what I wanted. I think 500kv motors would serve these fans better on 3S. I will test the 3900kv's on 6S lipo and see what happens as far as thrust!

RE: GP Slinger , FMA Razor
I had the slinger years ago. The zip ty held untill i put 4s in there and then the motor would shake under full power. An outrunner would be tough to do, but is do-able. I would stick to an inrunner, the motor will get enough cooling from the airflow. a standard prop adapter should work fine, which clamps or set screws to motor shaft. Bending the shaft is always going to be a risk, but the prop is small so should be OK.

RE: Sukhoi Su-26M BNF by ParkZone
Hello all. I too want more power!!! First off, I just adapted a gws 6050 prop, and it is MUCH faster, loops are proper, but I loose 1.5 minutes of flight time. So this week I should be getting my new brushless and ESC for the su26. I went with a geared box, mainly for mounting and to stay with 1S. http://hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9385 and the ESC: http://hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4318 and props: http://hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7994 hopefully these will work!!! Iam thinking if I need more power, I will make a parallel connector to run 1S2P!! edit: hmmm I just looked closer at the ESC, I don;t think it will work? anyone?

After a few good flights, I thought I would mount my point and shoot cam on the plane and take some video! My first vid, the cam was too far back and you see too much wing. I then moved the camera in front of the wing and the view is much better. I may try a side mount next time! On my 3rd vid, I loose radio reception, almost lost it!!!!! RE: FAMOUS F-18 twin EDF w/air retracts build/review - LOTS of pics
So is there a science as to how much tube you should have after the fan, and the decrease in diameter or coning? I am going to have to shave some material away to ge the new fan to fit in flush, So I wonder if I should line up fan to fan or find a better location for the new unit. I can't wait to see the increase in power! I hope this thing is too fast! I didn't order anything for the landing gear, I am going to inquire about the stock one, Or order new ones, funds are tight at the moment though, so I am going to rig them to be static and always out. Won't look good but it will work until I figure out a solution. Oh yah, should I attempt balancing the fans?

I would love twin 90mm in here!! Well, I removed the hatch for the duct mounting. Also discovered why this jet was lacking so much power, see pics of motor!! now the hatch didn't come off great, thats because I had the elevators already installed, so on a new kit it would be no issue. FAMOUS F-18 twin EDF w/air retracts build/review - LOTS of pics
Hello all. I have been playing with 3d planes lately, heli's before that, and trucks all through out! I have been sucked into the EDF scene now because of the high rpm's and speed!! So after some looking around, I wanted a larger sized plane and something that is going to cruise. I found this one on Ebay, however it is available online from [link=http://www.century-rc.com/ecs/product_show.asp?p_id=4138&type_id=243&kind_id=690]Century-rc.com[/link]www.century-rc.com Specification: (From above website) Wingspan: 1080mm (40 inch) Overall Length: 1500mm (60 inch) Flying Weight: 1700g Drive System: Powerful Brushless Inrunner motor with 90mm* electric ducted fans I included the above * because the kit is not 90mm, appears to be only 62-64mm. The bad: - incorrect EDF size on specs. - Single ESC incl. 45A supposed to run 2 motors (I tried, no success) - Kit missing wing stiffener's shown in manual - small photos and little detail in manual - Price may be high since not 90mm - Short one servo, no extensions included The good: - Air retract system with shock on front wheel with servo installed for steering - Works great on my initial tests. - Included servos seem smooth, fast and fit perfect. - 4200Kv motors limit you to run 3S, but scream and sound smooth. - the included fans are an original design, include spare fans, and I was surprised how much thrust one makes. - Aileron, elevator and rudder included in kit with smooth original hinges - Incl. 3s lipo's seem to be of good quality, 30c-50c (have yet to use them) - Looks great with incl missiles and scale look - good fit on most/all parts - colour manual, just small and short Photos and vids to come!
ORIGINAL: LDM THanks buddy , sound great , did you get the 64mills from Hobby King ? and did they come complete with the hardware for motor installation
HK fans will be here wed or thurs. I sure hope they come with all the hardware, because I didnt order any(they didnt have proper size adapter for my motor anyway 3.17 i think, found adapters AFTER I placed my order :( ) Here are some photos of the fan/intake When I inquired with century about the size different from advertised, They stated that the specs are from the manufacturer and not them. It still flew on the stock setup, so I am not totally pissed, only somewhat. I am tempted to push 4S lipo and see how the motors take it (incl motors are 4200Kv- I'm not sure the size), and the thrust change at all. If that goes OK, I may try 6S and see if it can hold the power. I also forgot to program my ESC's prior to my flights, I don't know how much inpact this can have on the power.

I know it SAYS 90mm fans, ans thats what 'I had expected. However they must be measuring th intake duct because the fans are actually 64mm. (in my first or 2nd post) For some reason, I got a box full of fans and mounts for this plane. I will take a photo with a fan and measuring device!!! I hope so now that I ordered some new 64mm fans, the extras included measured 64mm. My fans should be hear Wednesday of the coming week, so I should have it ready for next weekend!

H9 SuperStick 40 Value series EP conv.
I had ordered a nice brushless motor 830Kv, .61 equiv. for an airboat I had made. I was then in my LHS and seen this plane for CHEAP! It was just over $100 canadian, And since I had everything else, I just bought servos. The build as straight forward, not going to cover that. I'll just go over what I added for the power system. In order to mount the motor, I had to remove the pre-installed engine mount. I then tapped out the blind nuts and found where I was going to mount the brushless. Then I pre-drilled holes and re-used the bind nuts and bolts mounting the motor. the motor's shaft fit in the hole for the fuel lines, and the nice prop mount made it possible to use the included spinner. In order to balance, batteries had to be installed where the fuel tank should have gone. In order to be able to change batteries without removing wing, I cut a access panel in the nose with a razor knife, leaving me with a perfect blank for the hatch. I am waiting for magnets to complete it. For the power system, I am using 6S 3000mAH lipos, and 3600's (2x 3s in series). Currently have an Align trex500 ESC, but have a china 100A esc for it.(waiting for BEC) The motor is a 5055 830Kv, sugg. prop 10x6 - 14x6 . First prop I tried was a 9x4, and it was too small, not enough thrust, but flew ok. Then I tried a 12x6, this prop screamed and the plane was very fast. Short flight time I had over-discharged my batteries as I forgot to adjust my timer. So, I then tried an 11x5, and I am happy with this now, good punch and good flight times, 5-8 minutes. Overall, the superstick flys quite well. Its my first of this kind of plane, All my others have been 3D and one warbird. Anywho, here are some vids! 9x4 prop 12x6 prop 11x5 prop onboard, close to crash!! RE: FAMOUS F-18 twin EDF w/air retracts build/review - LOTS of pics
I had my second flight yesterday. the landing gear I assume was damaged in assembly. It failed as soon as I tried to turn the jet around. So again I just pinned it and flew. It seemed a bit faster this time, I think because the batteries now had a good cycle on them. All was good, climbed too steep once and stalled it, but recovered no problem. Upon landing, i came in too slow and it ended up "falling" from about 4-5 feet. both rear landing gear took a hit, lost both wheels and one retract broken at the hinge point. Although relatively minor, the gear is all plastic, would have been nice to have them a bit stronger, as to replace them is going to be tough! So I will see if I can make the rear static and continue flying it! My friend lost a jet after 30seconds of flight, I am tempted to put the edf and tube onto my f-18 and see if 3 motors are enough!!! his is a nicer 5-blade edf. Or I may just try running 6cell lipo and see if the motors and fans can handle it!! BTW. If anyone has one of these, I have a box full of fans and the mounts used in this, so I can help ya out if needed!

I used most of the servos included (emax branded) and 2 hs-55 on the rudder. I am using a bec at 6v off a 2s lipo also for the retracts. The fan assemble can be accessed, couple screws and carefully remove a panel in back (where motor wires come through) I didn't bother because I have nothing better to put in! the fans are only 4 blades. I am sure there is a correct size, high performance fan that can make this thing fast out there somewhere. If it lasts a few more flights, I will look into it!

RE: FAMOUS F-18 twin EDF w/air retracts build/review - LOTS of pics
Unfortunately I don't have a video camera, just my point and shoot. I am glad the plane made it back in one peice and working condition. I made it short because that was the first use of the batteries and I didn't want to push them yet. I expected more speed, alot more speed. However it does fly smooth, didn't use any trim and the balance felt spot on. The control is good, and would be better with more speed! this thing looks scale flying to me, with the missiles and tanks, the look is awsome in the air. It may not be as fast as I hoped, it is still satisfying to fly. I wonder if I could try 6S configuration with these motors? is 4200kv too high for 6S?? I hope I have done a decent job in showing of this kit, it's downfalls and its positives. I think anyone looking for a scale, large size, electric jet will be happy with this kit. Please ask any questions and comments!!
