RE: Thunder Tiger RN Sea Fury FB.11
It will depend on your engine but I would easily start at 122mm and then decide. I am taking it out again today at 130mm. I will let you guys know how it went, but I can tell you that it will be so much more enoyable in flight with the cg moved further back. Also, lets all start sharing some pixs of these birds. I will post a few on mine tonight.

RE: Thunder Tiger RN Sea Fury FB.11
OK Update. I decided to go for broke and removed the 1.5 pounds of dead weight I needed to get her to balance at 95MM. Then I came to my senses and only removed 1 pound and took her the field. GUESS WHAT she flew like a dream. That's not entirelly true, but it flew so much better than before. I am confident that I can remove at least another 3/4 pound of lead to this plane and fly it just fine. The CG the post in the instructions are NOT accurate. Again for clarification the are NOT accurate. I am balancing it tonight at 130mm and going to have a blast tomorrow at the field for the first time in 6 months with thei plane. Pisses my off that TT has the audacity to ask me to pay 380.00 for a plane like this and then give me the wrong CG. Please don't take my word for it, but for the sake of your landing gear do NOT balance at 95MM....it is just way to nose heavy and will destroy your retract mounts on the first hard landing. I reinforced mine wiht carbon fiber plate on the top and bottom and then douced it all with Gorilla Glue....wing will break before the landing gear. Good luck I will keep you posted on anything new but PLEASE keep this thread alive because frankly there are NO other threads on the september fury or sea fury out there that are worth a damn. Best, Brandon

RE: Thunder Tiger RN Sea Fury FB.11
I did the same thing. The spar is 170 mm not 120mm. Now I am not sure what to do. I have flown mine with it balanced per the instructions 95mm but had to add about 1.5 - 2 pounds of dead weight to make it balance properly. I am at about 13 pounds in total. Can anyone do the science on this bird and tell us the balance point? I would really love to distch this weight if I can.

RE: Thunder Tiger RN Sea Fury FB.11
DVM 100 I agree that the cg is incorrect, but the consequences of testing this theory is way out of my budget range. I have the TT Sept Fury wiht an OS. 120 on the nose. When I balance at 95MM this comes straight over the wheel wells. Should it NOTbe directly over the carbon fiber wing tube? This runs contradictory to every single arf I have ever built. I am adding nearly 1.5 pounds of lead to the nose and I have a 480o batter mounted under the enging and I moved the engine ads far forwaqrd as the mount would allow. This is a huge oversight on TT part if the cg is in fact 120 mm behind the center line. Please recap for me if you don;t mind the exact location of the cd in your estimate.

RE: Thunder Tiger RN Sea Fury FB.11
Well I got My September Fury off the ground today. As I was getting ready to take off, one of the guys noticed that the engine had significant downthrust. I looked at it from the ground and if was the first time I noticed it too. It seems to be one of the reasons I keep nosing the dam thing over. I went up anyway and flew around for a few. I wanted to get a handle on landing this beast so the first line up I got, it was floating in farther fast even with full flaps on . I leveled out and the instant it touched the ground, both landing gear ripped right out of the wings...and I mean the instant it touched the ground. I have read some threads that it need to be reinforced, but I have no clue how to do it. I have to rebuild it now anyway but have any of you reinforced the mounts yet? Also, someone PLEASE tell me how much weight they are adding to the nose and the total weight of the bird. That would be really helpful. FInally, lets keep this thread going and share/learn from one another...there are ZERO threads on the Spetember Fury anywhere (ok there are a couple but NONE that are remotelly helpful). Thanks fellas, -B

RE: Thunder Tiger RN Sea Fury FB.11
Yeah, it scares the crap out of me to fly mine. I am going to rip it apart tonight and move the engine as far forward as I can to see if I can shave off some weight. I think I may have about an inch or so on the motor mount that I can take advantage of. It may not help much, but at this point I am willing to try anything.

RE: Thunder Tiger RN Sea Fury FB.11
I built the september fury and agree, the quality is great on this bird. I would love to know how much weight you had to put on the nose to get her to balance. I added almost a pound to mind. This is in addition to a 4800 mah battery...I was scared to fly this thing with that much weight. The engine I have in it is the OS 1.20 AX. This is one crazy fast plance though...quite a handful.

RE: Thunder Tiger September Fury 1/7
Country, Just checked in on the forum, congrats on getting it airborn! Looks great. I set mine up with Robarts and Robostruts...I hope when I finally get to maiden it I don't have any issues with the landing gear. Questions, how much is yours weighing in at exactly? I want to compare it to mine. I had to add at least a pound or more to my nose and thats with a 4800 mah battery and an OS 1.20 AX. I am petrified to fly it until I get a better sense of how much others are weighing in at. Any help here appreciated and congrats on themaiden. Cant wait to finally fly mine.

RE: struts does esm/kmp september fury
that explains it, I have the TT version. I had the same issues, the instructions sucked. I have an OS. 1.20 AX on the nose with a three blade 14 or 15 7...can remember which, but I will post when I get back to the garage. I added at least a pound or more to the nose and i am scared to death that its to much and I will crash. It balances fine, but it just seems like so much weight to be adding to a nose. I have a hunk of lead on the nose along with a 4800 mah battery and it still just on the balance. please shoot me over the link to the thread, I would love to read it.

RE: struts does esm/kmp september fury
Your TT SF came with air retracts? Mine didn't it only had the standard servo retracts. How do you like it so far? I have had mine for several months and have yet to maiden.. I will try this weekend. Please give me your details, what engine are you using and in particular, how much weight are you adding to the nose? SO good to know there is someone else who bought this plane.

no struts only retracts. Good retracts though, even though I replaced with Robart pneumatics.
ORIGINAL: TELEJOJO The ex. date on my nitromodels Long-EZ was the maiden flight. Will post pics. tom.
You too? Lost mine last weekend on takeoff. Had several flights on it with no problem, but this time, just as I was gaining enough speed to take off, the nose gear hit something and caused it to POP up. When it came down, it immediately poped back up again and went into a stall directly upside down on the canopy. Ironically, the only damage it took was to the fins which I just finished repairing and to the canopy...shattered. I emailed NitroModels and they offered no help on replacement canopies. They actually told be to buy another one and use the canapy from the new plane....can you beleive that!

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear
ORIGINAL: rare_bear some guys at our field put shims on the rear gear block to make the wheels sit further forward and therefore, assist in preventing nose-ins. when the gear retract, the wheels have a slight tilt to them so that's the drawback i guess - but nobody sees that anyways.
Now that is interesting. I got no further that 5 feet on the grass today at our club and it went over. I thought about doing something like that with the gear. I have RObarts on it. There is still plenty of in the wheel well for the wheels even if tilted. does it seem to help with the nose overs greatly?
OK truce... I have the TT September Fury. I am hoping to get it in the air this weekend, but I still need to balance it out. At this point even with an OS 1.20 AX, I still need to ad at least a pound or more. I am hopeing that there is someone out there that has one and they can tell me how much weight they had to ad. I am CG shy...crashed a few before I figured out what it was. Nothing like seeing your new airplane go nuts when you are on your maiden....
