RE: EXI-450 discussions/mods/scale projects
Yeah, The weather has been crap here too. Last weekend was good but it's rained ever since. Been tinkering in the shop some, fixing the 30 and charging up the batteries for the electrics in the hope that this weekend will be nice! Too muddy for chores so I might get to fly![:D]

ANyone else been flying? I managed to back the Caliber 30 into a bush last weekend and trashed my CF blades![:@] This was after the best flight of my life! The EXI has been parked for bad weather but it's getting better!

sheerider, That's scary! especially since I'm running the same tail blades! I lost one of the tail blades on my 50 once but luckly I was only six inches off of the ground and could land before the heli could tie it's self in a knot! Were you running the EXI tail?

Gonna have to ditch the Flight power EVOs! Just had one go down in flight when I was agressive with the collective and it let the low voltage kick down happen in FFF at very low altitude! I had to set it down so fast it tipped on the unlevel ground.[:@] My TIG Z weaves survived again![:)] I'm going to save those batteries for foamy flights and just use my Zippys for heli flights.

That's cool crash. This Formosa is my first real plane build as the first was a GWS slowstick and that's more like building a kite![:D] Do you know if you can cover a foamy with film? Sheerider, I accually have two Protos! Only one is flying and I'm upgrading the servos on it. On six cells they are unreal![>:] If I can find my camera and get it to work I'll post some pics.

This weather sucks! Nobody is flying and the servos for the Protos haven't come in. I guess I'll start on the GWS Formosa kit.

RE: EXI-450 discussions/mods/scale projects
The Arf is built for 46 power and the kit is made for 40 size. If you use a 46 it will be a little nose heavy. My friend says that the next one he builds is going to have a smaller servo for the throttle and he is going to move the components around for better balance.

Crash, My flying buddy had an Uproar for a couple of years until he power dove it into the ground! It's a great plane and he is going to get anouther one as soon as he can. FYI, The ARF finishes out find of heavy if you don't watch your build.

RE: Walkera Dragonfly #36
Yeah, A good radio is worth it's weight in gold! The flybarless thing didn't work out. After a lot of tuning and trying I got it into the air and it went into an uncontrollable nose up attitude and ended in a hard landing. I've shelved it for now but am going to try again later.

RE: Walkera Dragonfly #36
OK, I think that I've finnally lost it completely! I've been reading alot about FBL so I got the 36 down and tore the flybar and see saw off of the head and then made links to go straight to the blade grips from the washout arms. I flew it very briefly and it seemed controllable but I have to make more adjustments before it will be right. Anybody else tried this yet?

RE: Walkera Dragonfly #36
The gyro on DX is the same one that everyone is raving about. Just remember that the tail servo is just as important as the gyro in getting good performance. I just installed the super fast GWS mini servo from HC on my 450 and it seems to work better than the Futaba digital servo ( 9257) that I took off to put on my Protos! Of course the 9257 works perfectly with the Futaba 401 on the Protos but that is a relatively expensive combination. I'm going to order one of the GY401bs from DX just to try it out.

You are doing the correct thing. Most people should start out with an even larger heli like a 30 nitro as they are easier to control than the smaller ones.

RE: EXI-450 discussions/mods/scale projects
I don't think that it was the responce rate as the roll rate on my heli is unreal. When I fly the Protos or the Caliber 30 after flying the 450 I have to force myself to give much bigger inputs as those larger helis seem to fly in slow motion! The 450 will do a complete roll almost faster than you can track it with your eyes but when I flipped it just seemed to hang vertical and when it was inverted it didn't seem to have enough power to stay up. I had one of my Flightpower batteries in it and they don't have the power of the Zippys so maybe that was the problem? Oh well, the rebuild is almost finished already.

RE: EXI-450 discussions/mods/scale projects
Well, I tried a backflip from sixty feet up and it took seventy feet to recover! I bent the tail boom up but the CF blades survived without a mark! That's the fourth bad crash that they have survived. I don't know what went wrong, it just wouldn't complete the flip. Do you have to toss the heli up with pitch first?

RE: EXI-450 discussions/mods/scale projects
The only tuff thing about flying planes is landing. You have to get used to lining up on the field just right and bringing it down slow. I have a GWS slow stick that can fly backwards in a light wind! A buddy of mine has one too and we have a ball dogfighting with them. We got the two of them tangled in flight one day and as we watched them flutter to the ground we gat the shock of our lives to see them seperate about twenty feet from the ground! We both managed to recover and land! His battery was hanging straight down by the wires and my horizontal stabilizer was split down the middle and hanging off of the plane. my wings had slots chopped in them by his prop! We were laughing so hard it was almost impossible to stay standing![:D]

I have five acres here at the house but it's trees, trees, trees! My buddies place has 140 acres with about fourty in the middle that's open and has a flying field in the middle. Now that they cut the hay around it you can get crazy and still find the body if you fail.[:D]

Crash, Just go for it! Rolls are easier than loops, Just make sure that your collective is at center stick or the heli will corkscrew a little. PS Fly at least three mistakes high!

Ok, starting to get POed waiting for the bearings for the EXI. I'm really missing my small heli as it's the only one that I'm brave enough to risk on airobatics! Missed alot of good quiet flying days too! Oh well, I took the 9257 off of it to put on the Protos and replaced it with a HG201 from Ino Lab (HC). Anyone running one of these?
