RE: Midwest Extra 300xs Build
Fuel tank used is a Dubro S-16. I also tried the aluminum landing gear and carbon fiber landing gear and there is no flight characteristics change. With the DA-50 I don't need more than 1/4 of throttle, a lot of Power!!!!!!!!

I added more modifications to the fuel tank place and servo throttle position. It flyes really nice, easy on landing.

RE: Midwest Extra 300xs Build
Finally I got the right C.G with the DA-50, I added in total 8 flat washers to the standoffs which makes now a better separation between the cowl and the spinner plate and also I added a 3.5" spinner from Dave Brown. :)

I have installed 2.5" stand offs, and the spinner is very close to the cowl, what I will do is to use 3" stand off. Any one know where I can buy it?

RE: Midwest Extra 300xs Build
I am having the problem with the Midwest Extra 300XS, please note that the tail on this version is heavier. I did some test tonight and I have to add around 7 oz to the nose, I will add the spinner and I will try to move the throttle servo and the choke servo to the engine box, but that is not easy.

RE: Midwest Extra 300xs Build
I am also trying to get the CG as per the manual 5- 7/8" back from the leading edge. I have a DA-50 on the nose and the ignition battery in the engine box and the plane is tail heavy, I tried to add weight on the nose but is too much. I am removing the elevator servos and playing with the CG but is very hard, also I moved the receiver battery forward but has to be as minimum 8" from the ignition module. I will post the results.

I used Ultracote. I have to run the Engine first and do final check at the field. My scale is not very good meaning is around 17.

These are for the two screws that hold the rudder. I already order the OHIO 120 tailwhell p/n OHI120. I will install a piece of hardwoord between the stringers, I will do it once I get the new tail gear. That was my last modification, the plane will be ready for cover soon. :)

Hi Digger I saw that you bevel the trailing edge of the wing which looks much better, do you plan to do this also on the horizontal stab? Thanks, Bar98

RE: Midwest Extra 300xs Build
I found a guy that did similar job. I don't want to buy a bigger car to fit the plane in it. This was my major reason. But is very straight forward, and the panels join together very well. I will be following this thread to share some ideas.

RE: Midwest Extra 300xs Build
Bob, I did some mods replacing the main spruce spars with basswood, this will save some weight. The wing tube is about 1 inch and is strong enough to replace the big and heavy plywood that joins the wings panels. I cut pieces of basswood and filled the space between the wing tube and the main spars, then I glue four pieces of share webs on each side, it goes from the top of the main spars to the to of the wing tube, same thing on the bottom. Then I filled any gap between the wing tube and the share webs with epoxy. It is very strong.

RE: Midwest extra 300 XS with wing tube
Thanks Rick, Basically what you did is build the wing by the plans and replace the ply dihedral with the wing tube on the appropiated place?. What about the diheral? With this solution the wings will be flat? Why I have to make a second root rib? You measure 3/4 inch back from the "main" spar? Thanks.
