RE: ESM T-28
Hi folks, has anyone put any of the Saito radials in one of the ESM T-28's yet? I seen something about the 450, I would think that would kill this plane, had one in an 84" SU 26 and it dragged it around like a rapped ape.

RE: Need advice from the electric experts
I'm a conservative flyer with heli's, I really hate to bang them up. Since I already have 4 3S packs just for the Furion, I would prefer to stay with that for now. I ordered the Neu 1107H/1.5Y as well as 3 JR 285MG's and 1 JR 3500G. I liked the reviews on the Jazz ESC and decided to order the 40-6-18 as well. And to top it off, I tossed in a couple sets of TP 325 CF main blades. I think I paid more for these parts than what I paid for my Raptor 50 Titan and engine (O.S. .50 Hyper). What do you know about the Hacker motors? In the plank world, Hacker was what you wanted in a plane if you went electric (at least it was when I was back stateside).

RE: Need advice from the electric experts
Thanks Noobflyer, everything I bought was "recommended", I researched everything and read the reviews (new about the bearing issue with Scorpion motors prior to buying). Looks like the Jazz ESC you recommended is the "bees knees", it's only $130 at Heliproz. In your opinion, what do you think would be the best motor for this ESC in the Furion? Thanks

Need advice from the electric experts
Hey all, I've decided to dive in to the world of electric heli's and think I may have bought without completeing my research. I am only a novice heli pilot (have 2 nitro heli's) but have flown planks for 23 years. I bought an Axe CP to pass the time while I am in Iraq and love it, haven't had any of the standard Axe problems yet, got about 30 flights on it. Anyways, here is a list of stuff I bought to build my next electric heli. What I need to know is what needs to be changed to make a better heli for general flying and basic aerobatics (baby steps towards 3D). Money is not a problem so don't be shy, I'll save what doesn't get use for future projects or spares. Endurance is more important at this time than power. X-cell Furion 450 Scorpion Commander V2 60 Amp 4-cell ESC Scorpion HK-2221-6 V2 Brushless Motor Futaba S3156MG Cyclic Servo's Futaba S9257 Tail Servo Spartan DS760 Gyro RotoTech 320mm CF Main Blades 11.1V 3s1P 25C 2200 mah Li-po Been thinking about getting a Neu 1107H/1.5Y to replace the Scorpion. Thanks in advance.

I think you got a fair deal. You didn't "steal" it at that price but still saved a small chunk of money if everything works.

RE: The World models Extra 330L 60 Size
Has anyone flown this plane with a YS 110? If so, what prop did you use? I'm currently thinking something in the 16-5W ~6 area. Don't want speed, just thrust and breaking.

RE: The best heli
IMHO, if you want the best and $$$ is no problem, buy an X-cell. I went in circles with with all the options and finally broke down and bought the following: X-cell Furion 450 kit 2 X Century 320mm SYM EP Rotortech Blades Futaba 7C FASST RX (already have TX) Scorpion Commander 60A ESC Scorpion 2221-6 4400Kv Motor Futaba GY401 Gyro 3 X Futaba S3156MG Digital Servo's (cyclic) Futaba S9257 Digital Servo (tail rotor) Great Planes ElectriFly Triton EQ AC/DC Charger Great Planes PolyCharge4 DC 4 Output LiPo Charger 4 X Great Planes ElectriFly Equinox LiPo Cell Balancer 1-5 Ofna Supreme Power Supply 12-15VDC 30 Amp 4 X Tenergy 11.1V 2200mAh 15C Li-Poly packs Model Avionics SkyTach Optical Tachometer Plus all the little extras like connectors, oils, grease, etc. That will pretty much eat up a chunk of your $2K, especially if you need to buy a heli radio. Since I don't fly 3D, I backed off on some of the ESC, Motor, and Li-po options.

RE: UAV Job Opportunity - We Need R/C Pilots
Dorsal, I used to have a "real job", you have to work too many hours and there's no money in it. I doubt this company can offer me more than I make now including the lap of luxury I live in to make this money. Their website doesn't mention any openings and given the last time this thread was active, I just had to satisfy curiosity. What's nice about working for companies like this in the Middle East is that I will be buying up all those forclosure houses in the U.S. from those poor folks with "real jobs", may God bless them. The best part is, I can spend $100K a year on this hobby and still clear six figures after taxes. Some day though, I hope to have a "real job".

RE: Moved by seeing planes
I've been on Air Force bases my entire life, yet I still have to run out and see what kind of plane is flying by or it will drive me nuts. For me, the most awe inspiring aircraft moments are when I see the B-1's taking off full of bombs every day on combat sorties, nothing else compares for noise except maybe a shuttle launch.

RE: Gorilla Glue thoughts?
I have found Probond/Gorilla glue to be superior to epoxy in all applications except for fuel proofing a firewall or fuel tank compartment. I have used it on construction from .40 size planes to 33% aerobatic aircraft in place of where epoxy would be used, and it has never failed or cracked. I used the same 12 oz. bottle of Probond for almost 3 years before the remaining 1/4 of the bottle hardened. As far as I'm concerned, there is none better for sheeting foam core wings. As stated before, when used properly, it has a super strong bond. Only drawback is the time it takes to cure, maybe not entirely a bad thing (time=wood penetration).

RE: scratch built KC-10
There was a company (PCM Models I think) that was marketing an L-1011 kit for a while, shouldn't be too far of from a DC-10. I believe they had it set up to use a single turbine in the fuselage and the engines on the wings were just static display.

RE: Reno Air Races??
They always show it in the wee hours of the morning when everyone is asleep, and it's only for about an hour of coverage at most. They televise Oshkosh like it's the second coming on the wings channel, and most of that is pretty boring to watch compared to the air races IMO.

RE: Great Planes Rapture .40
I am currently finishing a Rapture to be used as a rough field flier. The 4 star seems like it has fewer parts than the Rapture as well as being a little lighter. The Rapture builds into a stronger airframe and I think it will fly faster then the 4 star. You can't go wrong with either choice, both are very easy to build and fly great. I personally don't care for the tail dragger setup of the Rapture though, doesn't look right to me.

RE: firewall install methods
I use Probond/ Gorilla glue instead of epoxy in most cases anymore, it has proved to be stronger than epoxy in my applications. Thin CA glue works great for fuelproofing, also use aerogloss dope and brush it on in layers until it looks solid and uniform (after covering is aplied to fuselage, helps seal edges near the firewall area). I've had great success with balsarite as a fuelproof coating also.

The races made me go out and get a TF Sea Fury kit, just not sure yet which racer I'm gonna model after. I would also like to do an AT-6, I love watching them race (slow and noisy).

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300
IMHO a 1.20 is overkill, it flies so much better with a lighter motor. remember, it was designed for a .60 in the day when a 1.20 FS had a poor power to weight ratio compared to modern FS's.

RE: Reno Air Races??
I was surprised that Dreadnought didn't run faster, looked like a .40 sized plane with a 1.08 shoehorned in the nose. What's all this hoopla that they may be moving the races out to the SouthEast? I finally move close enough to drive out every year and they want to move them next to where I used to live, that's not right.

RE: Reno Air Races??
I was in the pits this year and heard a rumor that an F-82 may join the races possibly as early as next year. It should be a good contender for the inline fans. One thing that I think is amazing about these racers, is the exhaust can generate as much as 700HP worth of thrust. I go every year, and my group that meets up at Reno gets bigger every year.

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300
The best flying Ultimate I have flown had a Super Tigre .91 on it, didn't have the vertical performance or pylon racer speed that you get with a 1.20, but the rest of the flight performance was far superior due to the much lighter wing loading. I flew one that had the Supercharged O.S. 1.20 on it, what a pig for handling.

RE: How much engine do scale twins really need?
Some very good points, how's the flying been with the Eglin Aeromodellers Ed? I sure miss flying with the crew down there. This is what brought up the question, I flew one of the TF DC-3's when they first came out, it had a pair of .46 2-strokes on it, I was not happy with the scale flight speed of the aircraft, it was very stall happy at scale speeds for a DC-3. Recently, I test flew one for a buddy of mine, it has a pair of .25FP's on it, took a nice long take-off roll but flew so much better (scale flight speeds were easier to obtain without a snap tendency) than the first one. Both aircraft were built by superb builders, I'm not sure what the weight difference was between them. Another design, I'm sure all have seen the RCM Twin Otter plans (80" WS), the fuselage on this plane is the size of a small coffin (about as big as my 31% edge fuselage), the wing chord is only 8", the plane calls for a pair of .30's (not 30cc). The flight report claims that it can fly on 1 engine and maintain a slight climb. Maybe it's the high aspect ratio wing and the huge tail fin, but what about the 9 to 10lbs of weight?

RE: Global Cutlass 45 new build with MODS
I started one of these a few years back and got to the covering stage before it went on the back burner. I originally bought this kit (shortly after it was first released) because I seen another one fly at one of the fields in Tampa, it looked awesome in the air and flew great. It has a very high angle of attack while on final approach, yet it looked very stable. I plan on finishing it after following your all's progress, hopefully someone can confirm the CG before I fly it.

How much engine do scale twins really need?
I'm sure I'll be dodging flaming cannonballs on this subject, but I have to ask. Since most of us probably wouldn't try to fly a scale twin very long on one engine, why do we power them with enough engine to do so? Wouldn't they fly better with lighter engines and smaller fuel tanks?
