RE: Rowing SP-22 Merlin Questions
Hey Guy's :Just a update to start 2012. I did send a email to the designer/producer of my Merlin sailplane requesting setup information,He has replied and will send me what he can find. I think that this is Pretty cool ! How many other's are there out that would take time to answer a email of a product they produced 25+years ago, much less when they are currently involved with producing world class/world champion DGL sailplanes today. World Class for sure ! Please take a second to check out Rowing Models web site { http://www.hkm-taiwan.com.tw/ } they are worthy of your consideration ! Mike

RE: RE:
Hi to All :I am thrilled to find this site ! I have a Nosen 310 that has been in my "to do list" since the mid 80's. I picked it up at a local swap meet and was powered by webra speed 60's. The original owner/builder use to take it to meets strapped on top of a stripped out pop up camper that he used to carry his R/C equiptment in. The plane was in need of some TLC and I stripped off the original monoKote covering. I found and repared broken and cracked ribs ,replaced bent wing rods, lightened and conturered {sanded} the fuse, and picked up a new set of cowls. Life and curciumstances put the project on the back burner and the fuse has been hanging in the basement untill now. After reading these posts I am looking forward to upgrading and finishing this restoration to have this bird in the air this spring . Is everyone glassing their air frame, if so what are you glassing with ? Also what size servos are the norm on this bird ? Thanks : Mike

engine for a classic Kwik Fli Mk2
Ok I have received a set of prints from the AMA plans dept{Greg} for a Phill Kraft Kwik Fli MK-2, While I start to gather and cut parts for my "kit" ,I would like to have a motor from the same time period to complete this project. Could you gents provide a list of motors from the early 60's era along with comments of performance and collectability. Swap meets are just around the corner here in the north east and it would be great to have a list of what to "hunt" for ! Mike

RE: 1982 OS 61 VF abc GS A-2
Yes Joe :check out a front view of the Grand Slam with the motor installed. Thank You Tony, I have some leads on some of Ed's other friends that I hope will be able to provide some help. I know that Ed designed a .60 pattern plane for Maco Models called "The JetStar" and that he campained a model called "StarFire",the other ship I have of his seems to be a refinment of the Starfire design. If you happen to run across any pictures that pertain please remember me. I have started to reverse engineer the plane I have so that I could build another,I am no where near the craftsman he was ! -Mike

RE: 1982 OS 61 VF abc GS A-2
Thank You for all the replys ! I will try to respond in order, Yes Dave it is a gear reduction unit, the one I have seems to be about a .75 to 1 I found a 60th aniversary version on the OS chart you sent Dave, funny it had more engines on it including the GS A-2 I think I have. This motor is off of a Ed Keck pattern ship from that time period,The name on the plane is "Grand Slam"-please see attached picture It is larger than a Rossi .60 powered ship of his that I also have. I know that Ed designed a TOC Spinks Akromaster around this time frame. Thanks Dave I am trying to document Ed's pattern designs and also establish a time frame when they appeared. I have seen a couple of his later ships that were powered by Enya 120 R's and were tail dragger's ,Personaly I prefer the trikes that were common when I started hanging out at the local flying field as a kid. Ed,Mike,Tony Your comments confirm the evolution and progression of pattern that I have noticed with Ed's ships. I believe that back in the Classic days of pattern there was a builder of the model rule,Could someone elaborate when that changed? flywlliy :I am looking forward to hearing the whine you described ...for a while anyway[8|] Mike

RE: Ed Kecks pattern planes
Thank you for the picture Ray,I can see the starfire linage but my two ships seem to be refinments. Both ships have fully foiled vert.tails the stabs are on the bottom of the fuse and are removeable. Both are powered by piped RE motors with the pipes hidden under a removable deck. Hi Vince : Ed's wife was clearing out their basment after his passing, and I was blessed to pick both up these ships and some extra pieces that I hope to turn into another complete airframe. The largest ship is powered by a OS .61 V GEARDRIVE {I have never seen one of these before} driving a 12x12 prop The smaller ship seen hang from my ceiling has a 72in ws and was powered by a Rossi .61,I have coverted to electric power{about 1000watts on a 4S-5000ma batt. turning a 12x6 evo prop}I plan to switch it over to a .90 4cyc Saito for next years flying. RE: Ed Kecks pattern planes
Here are some shots of the planes. Eds workmanship has been eye opening for me. The construction is built up balsa and they appeared covered with a light fiberglass cloth and sprayed with K+B SuperPoxy. The tails are removeable with one bolt, MK retracts and mixture control. I know that Ed also set a pylon record with a 6.5 k+b powered Cassut racer. I also have some unfinished parts and pieces that he was putting together in a transition to turnaround style ? A friend of mine has one of these and it is a taildrager powered by a Enya 120 R ,I prefer the trike style that I have. My first pattern plane was a TigerTail that I flew in the early 90's,as of late I have been flying a .60 size Ultra Sport. I had forgoten how nice my TT flew,a few years back I sold it to a friend and he had been flying it at a local fun fly, after going from horizion to horizion in knife edge he was asked by another pilot what mixes he had set up... He held up his transmitter and said what are mixes ?I think he was using a 4 channel Futaba conquest at the time. I am really looking forward to flying these pattern ships again !

Ed Kecks pattern planes
Hi to all : I am looking for any one that could provide me with information on AMA Hall of fame member Ed Keck and the pattern planes He flew and designed before he moved to freeflight . I was fortunate to purchase 2 of his planes after he passed away, one powered by a rear rotor Rossi .60 about 66in ws and another larger one powered by a OS 61V gear drive that pulled a 12x12 size prop. I have electrified the first one and it is pure joy to fly ! I plan to put the OS powered one in the air next year after the weather clears. Did he name his designs...? These are truly works of art and it seems a shame not to have a name to refer to them with. I have a shot of the smaller one in my Gallery here in RCU. Thank you in advance - Mike
