RE: How many rubber bands? and what do you think of this?
I also have the H9 Alpha 40 and i put my rubberbands in a little ziplock with baby powder to absorb oil and moisture. I use the rubberbands that came with the RTF kit. I believe its 8. I've only had 4 flights on her so far and definately nothing risky maneuver wise but she seems to fly great! as far as the EVO trainer system... its perfect so far! Its my first glow engine and its so easy to start its rediculous. I flip it with my finger and it fires first time EVERY time. Had to tweak the high end a little rich after 2 flights but other then that i love it! I cant wait to get her up in the air this weekend! woo

Edit: i found the plugs for the voltmeter :) im going to ask around my club and see what the other guys are using and get some hands on experience before i buy one Thanks guys!

RE: Alpha is here!
Update: We took it up in the wind (about 14mph steady) and she flew great!!! I needed some up throttle to take on the wind and what not but no problems! My uncle took off and landed for me because it got squirelly the closer we got to the ground. We had about 3 flights at 15 minuites each and had a BLAST. I'm hooked for sure. He gave me a bunch of tips and told me to fly certain maneuvers and patterns and verified im OK to land solo if its not so windy. Ive had lots of simulator time and i fly strykers so i wouldnt say i have newbie thumbs but im no expert to say the least. Im so excited to get back out and fuel her up on a calmer day and get some stick time again! nothing more satisfying then wiping oil off the side of a freshly landed aircraft :D

Alpha is here!
Got my Alpha 40 RTF with the DSM2 stuff in the mail today. i had her built by the end of the day and today i fueled up and ran her in the backyard as i couldnt wait to hear the purr of my first glow engine! My uncle helped me fire it up and verified that my control surfaces are level and sync'd up with the TX. So its been run, controls tested and all i need to do is check the range but i have a feeling it should be OK. Tomorrow we're driving out to the field for a fly hopefully

RE: field stand?
my club just has rebar pounded into the ground with foam wrapped around em. Seems to work just fine. There is one heavy duty stand like the safty stand pictured afew posts above but thats for the precise engine tuning so none of the members are hunched over for 10 minutes

jrcaster- ill add those to my grocery list tonight! and yes Murdoc, im stoked to finally fly glow! one question though.. i know im going to have an onboard battery for my servos and electronics so how long does that battery last? Will i get a full day with tons of flying out of one battery or do i need to get 2 and charge battery 2 while battery 1 is in the plane?

RE: Question - Why do we promote clubs?
i showed up to a local club and was greeted very nicely. A man walked up the minuite i got out of the car and said "Hi im Jim, i dont believe i've met you before. Are you new?" after i explained i wanted to get into the hobby and was looking for a club he proceded to introduce me to everyone and give me a little tour. He then explained everything about glow engines; how to start, maintain, work on and run them for a good 30 minuites. He showed me the takeoff/landing procedures for the club and i helped alot of guys startup their planes and they all taught me something different. The club had a 100 dollar initiaion fee and then (since im a "junior" to them, meaning under 21) its $20 a year! The facility is great, with a paved runway, golfcourse type grass around the runway and kept very clean. Im in college soon so money isnt exactly abundant but i figure the small payment with the ama and the club is minimal vs field conveinence, maintence and insurance if i accidently hurt someone

RE: Nothing Standardized in This Hobby
I do agree with you very much. Its very overwhelming because of all the little variants of everything and it would be MUCH easier if there was a standardized this and that. i also agree its difficult to get everything to fit but i think once you have your plane(s) and know their requirments, then buying parts wont be as bad. it just takes some getting used to. thats why im going with an RTF to start with so i can get all my stuff and be RTF quick and while im learning how to get better at flying and messing around with my plane, i'll get more familiar with everything it takes time! :)

F27 C RTF transmitter keeps beeping! what do i do?
im having a bad day. i just scrapped my stryker B and now my transmitter for my brand new C wont stop beeping and flashing red! I put new batteries in it, and the beeping continued. I put different batteries from a different transmitter (fairly new) and STILL wont stop beeping and flashing red! what do i do? the LHS said they got a stryker c transmitter for 20 bucks if mines broken. but i dont see how it could be. it hasnt been dropped or abused. i treat all my stuff like a newborn child. is there anything else that could cause it to do this? i tested the controls and everything works fine, the plane and transmitter function 100% but it wont stop beeping! RE: PLEASE check my list -Need help in what to buy for beginner -THANKS!!
ORIGINAL: cappaj1 Saturday I went to the field and on takeoff the engine quit AGAIN! Rich from the club was there and made another few adjustments to the engine and then said you want me to fly it for you to see if it's okay now? I said sure and he flew it around, making trim adjustments along the way, and did about five circuits, all without a hitch! I had to leave to drop off the wife to my nephew's graduation party just about then. After that I returned to the field and got the plane all ready to fly and then Trevor said the BBC had stopped by and was doing an interview with local law authorities about Arthur Shawcross, a serial killer who was dumping some of the bodies in the park where our field is about twenty years ago. The BBC asked we not fly four about an hour so they could complete their interview. All I had was about an hour though as I had to return to the graduation party by 5pm so I packed up everything and left.
arent you worried about ghosts?! [:D] Michael

RE: Upgrade or Repair
What i'd do is buy a new plane (as listed above) and transplant your gear. While youre not flying your new plane, you can repair your 1st one. Since youre not pressured to fly you wont be stressed or anything. Plus, when its fixed, you got a 2nd plane if your current flyer crashes. Good Luck! Michael

RE: One of those days where I should have stayed home.
ORIGINAL: gregoryda We have a grass runway cut short, and about 4" + on the sides, when I land in the high stuff, it catches the prop and kills the engine. I then make the long walk to the end of the runway and always hear the sneers coming from the on-lookers......" there he goes on the long walk of shame". At least we newbies are getting them on the ground in one piece, right [:D]
hahaha the long walk of shame sucks. for me its usually a jog because walking that far would take awhile. :D
