Hi all rcsurfer enthusiasts. I just did some youtubing and checked out the last month of rcsurfing... saw the resinators 48" in action and a couple of other vids of his rcsurfing. Just sayin but recomend to all who are keen on this rcsurfin trip to check out the Randy Crawford / RCHawaiin style of vids for some very fine state of art surfing..... Bro surfer is good too but this post is more about the resinator and the big boards... btw maui john without your influence where would we all be.... well done to all who post and look fwd to more envelope pushing from all... espec the maui/so-cal big board crew. just sayin... bc

bricedenice. I tried a tab out the back too... worked well ended up more a round tail not perfect but is now glassed in as a permanent part of the board. Kitekook. RE: RC Surfer
YPC. Nice burn out. I'm aware about esc's cooking and burning from overloading or not enough cooling but I never thought about the water shorting the circuits createing so much heat..... just thought it would shut down... learn something every day.... and yeh flames and swimming are not exactly ideal.... That esc was an Xpower 100amp which fit nice in the hull and never even got warm but needed a 6v receiver batt so its being replaced by a Seaking 90amp with bec..... It says its waterproof but.... LOL I used this stuff we have here called BluTac for my batterys then taped up but it sure is hard to get down between the wires... do you push it in with a stick or something..... Its quite expensive and don't get much cause its just for makeing little balls then sticking posters to walls, maybe i'm useing the wrong stuff. Anyway I was also thinking of removeing the heatshrink and coating again with this conformal coating stuff i've done receivers with before...... and then the tac or something around the ends.... and then new heatshrink over the top to shrink on the sealant (if it ever gets here on the slow boat from HK)..... and then tape... and then..... Thanks for the info..... The lead out before encapsulateing sounds good but the spectrum receiver i used had a little bind button on the pc board. AND btw when researching esc's i noticed that reveiws of certain esc cooling pipes that were threaded all leaked and needed to be undone and resealed properly before use.... but i guess you know that now... lol And why you laugh at RC Lisa or Don..... my first board was a $65 nqd Lisa..... I loved the 100% metal actuateing mechanism (which is the rusty steel rudder wire), not to mention the long run time of the 7.2v large capacity 1700mah NiCd.....

RE: RC Surfer
After an engine room leak my ESC stopped working. Closer inspection revealed the waterproof coating of the circuit board didn't help much after water got in the end of the heatshrink. I washed in fresh water blow dry then Inox spray (like wd40 or a penetrateing fish oil type spray) with more blowing and all looked good but when connected to battery it just got hot and smoked within seconds..... thinks its over for this esc.. Anyway I am thinking of doing the Prestick / Tick Tack / Blu Tac thing but was wondering if a non acidic cure bathroom silastic might work ok if squirted up the ends of the heatshrink? BTW when you guys waterproof coat or encase your 2.4 receivers what do you do about the bind switch? (I still use the old 27mhz radio systems but I did waterproof a spectrum receiver once. I isolated the bind switch while coating and then used silicone grease around the bind switch. Seemed to work ok but due to brown outs i went back to the old radio before i had any big floods so i'm not sure how effective it was) Here are two photo's of the deceased esc. It was only 5yrs old. RIP

[quote]ORIGINAL: YPC Kite - fitted a splash guard which I saw in one of your boards a while back to trap the grease and any water spray............worked well........no mess. ...................................................... While you guys are workin out the real stuff regardeing KV lies technical secrets fins hulls tails and everything else important... i thought i might add something simple but good... Splash Gaurds are Awesome... not only for the spinning stuff that flys everywhere but also the fact your batts and leads may be caught up in those spinning things.,, Electrical Conduit is good stuff.... easily cut with a hacksaw blade and can be formed to any shape with some heat... in these pics there are many mechanical bad things happening with this hull but if you disregard those things and focus just on the gaurd and how you could customise it to suit your needs you will see its very simple and needs no support, the battery leads hold it down.... KISS.. Keep It Simple Stupid... works for me but rarely pretty... lol

RE: RC Surfer
KH thanks for the grease input.... i was useing grease but went to oil for the ease of cleaning out and re-oiling... Some guys i know run boats and use oil for the free running benefits but then again they are always on it and don't sit out the back waiting between sets with water leaking up their shaft... My biggest prob is that my boards may get lots of runs one week then nothing for a month.. I have to work on getting them out there more regularly. I dont need the ultimate performance so i will check out the grease scene again... Three bearing system sounds good.... syringe pumping the grease idea way cool.... YPC I've often wondered why the ducks on your test pond never seem to fussed in your vids.... any time i do a test run at my local boat ramp our feathered friends take off pretty quick lol..... reckon you may have run a few rc boats in this pond and tippin the 2nd generation of ducks may just say to each other "no worries bro's its just Dom doin another test".... lol

RE: RC Surfer
Hi guys. Realy likin the D v Y motor talk.... One point that always sticks out when dealing with people that don't speak read or write english is the conversion factor... ie if something is a 'technical secret' it could mean that we don't understand why you need to know and we don't care anyway, we just make em... cheap... lol And Dom that advice your father gave to you many years a go is priceless.... but why do women always challenge that basic principle... haha! I mentioned before of my dislike of the bi-fin and negative rocker but not knowing a lot about board design i am very happy to see what happens in the future... canazi's thoughts are relevent and as there are still many variations of rear ends out there this forum is looking better every day. ANYWAY i was hopeing i could get some advice regardeing driveline lubrication..... and thanks again to Karl and Dom for their excellent descriptions and pics of their setups a few pages back.... MOK too for his custom flexy. Q. If I was running a std solid shaft of 4mm (3/16") in a board weighing approx 1.8kg (4lbs) with a max shaft speed of 30,000rpm running a 1.4pitch 30mm prop in an oversize outer tube with a brass bush maybe 1" long at both ends, would i be better off with grease or oil...... And either way what type/grade/viscosity of oil or grease would be best? Thanks for any info.... bear

RE: RC Surfer
George Greenough is one of my hero's of the waves too MJ.... watchin him live must have been awesome.... reckon he was ahead of his time might be why you are too with your custom take on rc surfin. Here in Oz we had a mag called 'Tracks" which back in them days was the surfers bible.... many of the pics were taken by George... and his flexy fin design is still used today. Hey TGF your latest vid is cool... reckon you have surfed that break a few times too hey!....shareing is careing its about the stoke... and playback of waves always shows how it was, the things missed when surfin it and how stuff can be done different to make it better.....I agree with all you said last post. Hey Rogue29... I was playin with the rc surfer well before RCU gave it a page and still remember Metaldogs keeness to get one goin... I saw your comments and like you I got sidetracked for a while, still am.... Youtube showed me MJ made yellomon but i was too busy to get more into it espec as the other old school sites were basically inactive. Anyway there is nothin wrong with a boardshark... Fully stainless and the deck needs no sealing tricks, motor sunk low and the driveline has good angle... Of course it needs some mods but give it a go with a dude behind the feet. Hey surfcurls... I hear you when sayin how the camera can take the focus off what your doin but i hope to get one happinin soon... when i get used to it hopefully it won't take away the thrill but allow me to show some stuff.. for me and all to comment and improve on.... Just have to find an affordable waterproof camera as we all know what salt air does to electric stuff. All looking good guys the shareing of knowledge is great.... like MJ says its a team effort... but MJ is always modest with his thoughts hey!

RE: RC Surfer
Hi guys. While you are on the tail rocker thing I thought i might add some more food for the chew. George Greenough was the ultimate flexy boarder. As a kneeboarder he could move his weight around and use his fins to balance/trim his flexy spoons in all size waves but as TGF said it may work backwards with an rc surfer. I am not a fan of negative wedge.... its just not right..... then again at high speed maybe it is. Useing a bi-fin with downforce to counteract a neg rocker could work but extra power needed to do this seems to be quick fix for bad initial design.... Anyway one of my boards is a board shark. I stripped it out but left the deck original with the feet, then mounted a 'lisa' just behind the feet for testing purposes. (The leaning dude is broken but in storage for another day) The nqd has a flat rocker, the kyosho positive with a tab, the std board shark positive rocker..... I have modified them all but on the shark I fitted some brass tubes so i could make some different tails to attach and see what happens..... (see pics) Facts are if the cg is around 50% which all my boards are the shark goes great with this no.1 shape of alloy sheet tail.... I was thinkin of a flexy tail and many other shapes but have yet to get there yet.... and then there is the water release factors around hard and soft rails, not to mention the razor thin rails of this tail!. PS i have found the std shark with its hard rails almost the whole length of the board handles much different to the others.... i even filled in the cut-outs of an nqd with foam then shaped them so i could get a softer rail through the board until the tail which made a big difference turning but....... Shark is flat to turn (2D) nqd also flatter to turn with filled in sidecuts but soft rails more real... cut outs in rails along the length of kyosh/nqd must mean something but maybe they are saying....Vee vee vee.. please! ANYWAY i hope i haven't bored you with my thoughts. I have always thought a good hull and weight distribution with a 3 channel radio flexing the tail when needed could be a go... All the best guys.. Bear.

Hopefully after this weekend i will have read all the stuff that needs to be read on this very happening forum... and damn YPC i thought i was in for a bargain there for $500... Kitekook... Pic 2 of your latest diva Nikki with the blonde hair sprayin is priceless could be an avatar... and so glad you didn't cut up that longboard... end of day a win win for all well done. Cananzi... I read a few pages back you were testing a camera on your transmitter...... your board is lookin good but what about the camera... would like to post something pic/vid wise but have no idea how to do it without a camera person... they would be more focused on the bikini babes anyway... such a shame in this world if you want something done properly you have to do it yourself... ha! Karl.... AROBIC / ROBOTIC RATIO.... I hear you loud and clear.... just keep doin what you do its all good.. spec with your mates hey! AND to all the other surfers i didn't mention fear not you are all worthy.... there are many non-posters like me eagerly watchin whats happenin and enjoyin and acting on what we see... I just couldn't help myself and had to post something and glad no-one trashed me... yet... haha! So much to do so little time..... i know you can all relate to that but aye!

RE: RC Surfer
Hi surfcurls. In reply to your thoughts i'm not much into the history of this stuff but remember Cheyne Horan as a skater who was recruited by the bronzed aussie's Cairns Townend and Warren way back..... Not sure what foot Cheyne put forward, always thought Tom was the kyosho dude being a goofy footer.... Anyway my main interest in this forum is that some Vee hull raceing enthusiasts have caught the stoke of rc surfing. I think the Vee hull has a lot to offer and these guys are masters at high performance with their drivelines hulls and mechanics.... With the discussions between them and the current masters of the rc surfer i think we have a lot to look forward to...... 4 ch radio doin the Karl thing is where its goin mark my words. I have some rc surfers who get some waves now and then..... I have no pics and keep it quiet cause most i know find it somewhat out there... suits me fine. Hopefully it will be a long time before anything is set in stone to be a production trip for the masses rc surfer wise..... and i'm happy with that.... my knees are rooted can't paddle so good rarely real surf anymore and 'I Hate Crowds'.... breaks full of young legends wantin a blue not for me anymore and hope the little unused waves stay free for me for a bit longer yet... PS. Over the past years all surfers young old and general beachgoers have only shown happy faces towards my surfers and i'm happy with that... If i had a dollar for everyone that asked me "where can I get one" i could possibly not go to work anymore.... Ok thats a lie but reckon you and all rc surfers know what i'm sayin.

RE: RC Surfer
Haha I took my nqd for a few waves this arvo... very much like kites recent waves on the big ones... and i dropped in a bit too but the surfers werent fussed.... they already missed the sweet spot anyway hey! After switching the servo fwd/rev on the transmittter to suit this board it broke off due to rust... 2nd batt I got some water in and now have some weird issues with the forward propulsion.... Should have known as soon as i posted something my surfers would find something else to test me with haha! Great driveline tips guys thanks... Prob wont change anything on my existing boards just yet but. I always thought that if you can line up the motor and shaft strait cant see why a flexy is needed either....especially with the friction/sealing issues.... MOK like your setup and likewise your setup YPC.... was gunna ask you about that little oiler thing on your driveline! AND before i go back to the cave i must say that all that share their stuff on this thread is great.... Every day you surf it's different to the last time which makes this persuit so timeless and rewardeing unlike other rc stuff..... watchin Karl's boardshark dude doin his leaning stuff on the third channel always inspires me too!

RE: RC Surfer
Hi all rc surfer enthusiasts. I may not be alone in stateing that it's sometimes difficult to get the time to research all the good stuff that can help with one's rc persuits better... let alone the time for R+D and actually getting em happening and enjoying the stoke! YPC your technical thoughts and 'havin a go" at building are first class. Haveing skills in the F1 and Vee hull boats is your forte and I have learnt much from your new interest in the rc surfer..... As you say its a boat that needs to surf a wave and not look like a boat! Maui John, Saildog, Karl, Jock, Hugh and all the many other customizers i've been watchin you too its all good and please take no offence to my likeing of YPC's attitude to this rc persuit. That said I have many many pages of this thread to read.... I've read some of the latest but need to go back and do the full trip but just want you to know YPC that your thoughts and tech stuff has certainly inspired me to get back into rc surfing and maybe even build myself... or even buy from you if you continue.. your flexy dude is awesome and so relative to whats happenin.... just like your intrusion barrier around around the deck.... and the many other tech things you have mentioned. ANYWAY I noticed many pages back your rudder shaft with the ss thread into the custom fin with ss sleeve... it looks good and was wondering if your bellcrank relies only on friction to stop it moveing... and when you put the MJ inspired deck threads into the hull, how deep do you epoxy them? PS.. I like my rc surfers and am always modifying things. When I get something interesting to contribute i will... but main reason for this post is thanks for shareing your knowledge for all YPC.
