RE: CESSNA 185 35% TMMY COMPOSITE
Hiya Randy, Looking great, you seem to be trying to get as much scale ( alot of it unseen ) into your model as possible. One thing tho that sticks out like a sore thumb to me is the land gear legs.... especially in your new latest photos. The Landing gear struts on the model are way too far splayed out, I think it will look very noticable. Otherwise this is one fanastic job you are doing. Hope your don't mind my slighty objective comment. Cheers, Paul

Now that is just too raw! ( where's the high-heels? [:)] ) Needs a whirly thing on the front and it in turn to be mounted on a worthy airframe [:D] Oh hey! anyone one got one of them old "Cigar" Mufflers that'll fit my 180 they don't need?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hey ya guys... Havin a wee bit of bother with my 180 in my Taylorcraft.... Swinging a 17x10 ( or 18x6 I forget ) on 10% nitro My young fella decided to give my HS and LS screws some unwanted attention [:@] I have got it to good idle and up 2/3rds but at WOT it just stops! My thoughts was it is too lean at WOT so 1/4 a time I have wound HS needle out... Has made little difference and in fact I found I had gone out 7 turns! Still made good idle and up to 2/3rds believe it or not. So then I wound the HS in and started at 3 turns out and worked it leaner 1/8 turn at a time.... still dies at WOT [&:] What else could I try guys?? its been a dream to run ( for 4 years ) until now......... Help please! Grrrr Cheers, Paul

RE: Hangar 9 twin otter!!!!!
Totally agree with the electric motors sounding much better than having any glow motors powering it.... then there's also little chance of having an engine flame out too... I'll get one! Shame about the colour ( sorry... COLOR ) scheme tho, would have preferred a civvy or base white finish. Your floats look very interesting... can you please tell me/us more about your setup there?? What floats, length, height of fuz etc would be great. Like your idea of having a spare set of wings. Cheers, Paul

Wow Randy, Fantastic C185 !! You'd be one really happy chappy aye? Did I see you have a Hangar 9 (?) Taylorcraft on floats?? My KMP C185 is resting due to some deceleration trauma and so I am thinking of using the floats off it for my Hangar 9 Taylorcraft.... Could you please help me with some measurements... to get mine attached please?? Very much appreciated if you could

RE: Airplane ESC with reverse
I know what you mean mate... I'm looking at using some brushless car esc's for my twin plane. I am hoping to use the esc's reverse to add that "cool factor" to my model being able to back-up outta the pits, and to may be reserve thrust after landing. I don't plan to use in the air of course! I planning on having the props brake/stop before reversing as this would probably unscrew the prop nuts or damage the motors. The hardest bit might be the setting up on my TX, that will take some figuring out. chow for now, Paul

No FPV, we just quickly mounted Neil's GoPro with velco onto the front cockpit/wing former as a trial. Good to see the Saito didn't vibrate the picture too much and the sound was still good too. Got yours honking around after the engine trouble? Hopefully off tomorrow for another go... weather is great today so here's hopin ( earthquakes can bugger off too ) Chow for now

RE: Futaba T8FG
Hiya Bill ( or anyone else that can please help... ) I have just bought a new set ( T8FG of course ) but it came Mode 2... obviously as I fly Mode 1 I needed to change it over. Now I have swapped the ratchets bits over that is all good, then I went into the HW settings and changed the "sticks" to Mode 1 as per the manual. BUT throttle is still on the left and Elevator on the right, RX plugged using Ch3 as normal for Throttle and Ch2 for Elevator Hmmmmm ??? What's going on ?? Do I have to now use Ch2 for Throttle and Ch3 for elevator ???? Please help, doesn't seem right to me, am I missing something?? Did this to my 9C prevously and worked. Many Thanks in advance.... Paul

RE: New KMP Cessna 185
Hey there Sunny.... No replies huh? well I'll tell you I have a Saito 180 FS engine in mine and it goes superb! If I did not have the Saito I would 100% go for the DLE30 the newer rear carby one. The OS would have the grunt and go well but it will not sound good and will use much more fuell too. Just my opinion anyway :-) Cheers, Paul

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft
Land on anything over here with them there tyres [;)] Snow, ice, water, gravel you name it! Yeah don't know why alot of guys cut the cowl so much to get the air in there when its easier and more attractive to make the opening for air exiting the cowl area bigger. Saving that sweet looking cowl. If thats not enough, then direct the air over the engine with baffles. IMHO anyway [:D] Ok you gotta cut the cowl to fit in the engine for sure. You comin over to CHCH, NZ? If so PM me and I'll see what I can do for you. Forgetting work hmmmm that'll be nice. CFN, Paul

And here's some pictures... Yes that's a old un-used Ironing Board that has found better use in my shed! great for sitting your model on and being able to walk all around it, unlike a bench table [:D] I could further aid better cooling if I was to cut away some of the cowl from behind the air scoop but keeping in line with the silver alloy taped ramp bit thingy.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft
Oh mate! I thought you were gonna bang a Saito in there? Send over some good weather could ya Rule of thumb mate is cooling outlet area needs to three times the inlet area. Plus I would add to that, that the airflow would be preferrably going over the engine. If I need more airflow direction I intend to use the outsides of the engine mount to screw on some air baffles that will take most of the air over and thru the engine's cooling fins To get that on mine ( Saito 180 of course ) I have partly closed off the big cowl openings and increased the rear outlet area by knocking out ( sharp firm bang with my hammer handle ) the ramp thing and cutting the whole thing bigger. I cut back to the former and cut away the engine firewall/ bulkhead up to the "tray" that holds the fuel tank. This will also give you plenty of access to the area between the dash panel and firewall so you can install your batteries, throttle servo, onboard glow etc. I can get some pictures if you need? Even though mine is a Glow engine, I'm sure the gassers could be better exhausted. This means you don't have to cut the cowl up as much too [;)] Chow for Now, Paul

This coming weekend will be the next chance with any luck on the weather. You'd be spoilt for good weather over Perth way wouldn't you?? CFN, Paul PS and hey the ag wheels are cool! What spinner size did you get? I'm using a TrueTurn 2 3/4 alloy one and did order a TT 2 1/4 one also.... the 2 1/4 Trueturn cone will not go over my MAS 18x6 ( or my 16x8 for that matter ) prop hubs, so I'm gonna stick with the 2 3/4 spinner CFN, Paul

Yup factory wheels and spats are off. Not so much because of the length of the grass but it being quite wet ( winter here of course ) the spats can fill up with mud in no time. I have some 5 inch Dubro inflatables on the TC in the meantime :-) look good too I thinks Second flight tomorrow with the re tuned Saito 180 and some altered control throws. Hey ya Farty, yup finally got the maiden under my belt, just a short flight as I had to go to work. Hey there Ari, I know it's slightly off topic ( but we could fit them onto a TC ) but if your after some good looking floats try Singapore Hobbies... They sell float sets for the ESM Beaver and for the ESM Cessna 185. Check them out, their prices are really good as is there service. I'm sure they have the Beaver floats in stock just not showing on there web, but here's the C185 ones.. Note their prices are in Singa dollars which is about the same as the Kiwi buck Cessna 185 floats... http://shop.singahobby.com/?q=node/12875

Yeah but "leckie" ones just don't smell or sound the same! There's probably no more shagging around with IC motor installs than with you guys once you've sorted out your ESC, uBEC and battery placement locations. Once I've sorted my IC engine installation and have tuned my Saito, like on my other builds, all I need do is charge my flight batteries fuel up and go. Simple. If I wanna play with electric stuff I pull out our slot cars! lol just kidding I fly electrics too [:D]

Yeah go with the Saito 150.. and I'll have some else to confir with [:D] I've taken the plunge and cut the outlet air passage ( surely there's a proper name for this bit, lol ) to make this area larger for the THREE reasons. That is to... 1, Make more roon for my Saito 180 exhaust, without cutting that wonderful cowl 2, Makes a much greater exiting area for the for the engine cooling air to escape the cowl. 3, Now gives me plenty of access room to build stuff into the very front of the fuz such as throttle servo and flight and onboard glow batteries. I plan to take some explainitary photo's along the way... Chow for now, Paul
