RE: problem with 3.3
If you lean it out more it shouldnt bog down, it should tune in better or if you go to far and its set to lean it will cut out. If its bogging down its to rich, and thats the likely cause of fried glow plugs, iamnot right again !

Before you jam another O ring in just check the screw and barrel for burrs, if there is one, thats the cause of the O ring split, if not you got unlucky.

RE: How useful is reverse? (Also revo help)
l love reverse, for 15 years NO nitro RC had reverse, then they come of age, the first one l had was a kyosho mechanical, crunchy crunchy type, worked but, and the hardened pins` that used to slap into eachother crunching were pretty strong, you could slap it in reverse at speed and destroy diffs instead of gear boxes, pretty awsome gearbox for its day, bit noisy, and didnt come with roller bearing had to fit it out, but them were the days, you slap a revo [ much heavier] in reverse while moving, ALL OVER. All the cogs were plastic back then too, they had no slipper clutches back then, you young fellas have got it made, you messed up you payed for it simpla as that, anyways reverse changed the whole off road bashing consept, MT's became a machine that could really traverse some awsome rough turf, and where truggies or the like have a low centre of gravity and are low to the ground, and cannot get over the same ground without carrying huge speed as so to scoot over most of the rough stuff, the MT's can now drive over all this terrain, SLOWLY, and if it gets stuck, just reverse off, MT's are for off road rough stuff, reverse is a pleasure, and definately beats the 40m walk to flip it back over every no and then.....

RE: synthetic
Why would you want to, to save 3 dollars ? l have left nitro engines to soak in normal engine oil, for over 2 years to no ill effect, thats submerged though, no oxygen attacts, some oils absort moisture, this is why we use an after-run oil, designed NOT to do this, for 3 or 5 bucks, if your storing long term do it right, or submerge in oil. l cant see that synthetic would be any better than petroleum based products, of the non synthetic type, it still just has to be the right stuff, saying that though, any oil will slow rust and for short term use it wouldnt hurt, but, useing oil thats so thick or viscous, will eventually give you starting issues, with clagging and spatter on the plug. LOL ! Diesel oil !

Get a baja, the y rip along at 40 odd MPH , little weed eaters, l run with revos and savages all the time, they get me off the mark every time, but just down that paddock l fly past them at nutty speeds, they have 4x4 the baja is 2wd so you have to drive better, just leads to a better overall driver, and lotsa fun, and no little nitro is gunna throw a rooster tail of mud 3 metres in the air ! LOL ! Baja 5b SS if you can and they aint that hard to build.

RE: replacing the cooling head...worth the upgrade?
Wanna cheaper way of cooling it, get a PC , CPU heat sink and screw it to the TRX head heatsink, instantly you have doubled the surface area and sped the cooling process up, but most TRX engines just dont need it.l have a 4.6 that used to run hot, no matter the tune, so l did that and its run awsome ever since.

RE: T-Maxx HELP
Engine sounds like its toast. Clutch could be stuffed. When it gets really hot really fast its usually to lean or clutch is stuffed, or the brake is engaged or theres some other stiff part in the driveline. If the engine is old try to richen it just a touch see if it runs for more than 5 minutes.

RE: i think i bought the wrong engine
ORIGINAL: supertib Okay whatever you do , do not lean down the motor even further... leaning the motor till the idle stays high will destroy that engine dude..... richen the needle till the idle drops down then open the idle gap to keep it running....... use a hot plug to help the motor run with the richer low end settings you should be running........................ It is likely your motor needs to be sealed, or you have an airleak somewhere in your fuel system.....One very common source of airleaks are external fuel filters, as well as damaged fuel tanks...................................... But chances are your settings are just way too lean and the motor needs to be richened up..... What glowplug are you using ?
Sometimes you rock, and saved me posting in here, nailed it. It was idling lean. No other post before you even bothered to mention it, why ?

RE: Two cents about this truck.
They have had some crap models, no question, but then so have most other brands, l could start a war here with the maxxamillions, on the same princible, anyways, duratrack aint so bad, you cant torchure there stuff like a revo or savage, but YOU get what YOU pay for, l havent owned one for some years, l had issues with mine, but l dont see duratrack as a failure in Rc, look at some of the chineese clones, now some of them get the big FAIL in Rc, cause there junk, this new truck from duratrack, on the outside looks good, as for performance and lasting, only time will tell, but get one if you want one, seriously, most MT made by mainstream companies are pretty good nowadays, some have faults, actually all have faults. Does the duratrack compare to the new Kyosho MT, price wise ? Between them two brands, if the truck was the same price give or take 50 bucks, l would unquestionably get the kyosho, pure quality. Depends on price though.Cause you get what you pay for. l think duratrack have updated all there plastic's, in the last few years, putting them up there with traxxas in plastic's quallity or pretty close to it, its hard to beat a revo, because it has distinct design advantages over ALL other MT's in the class, so snapping a front arm off is very hard in a revo, only time will tell how well duratrack have designed there plastic components this decade.

RE: heat cycle???
An engine does not want to do what we make it do, we force the issue through design, 100 years of engine design and alot of the princibles remain the same, like running an engine in. Most people stuff the 'run-in' because of a lack of patience, nothing more. Traxxas have a very good run-in procedure for there 2.5 / 3.3 revo/maxx/etc , the temps should be used as a guide not a rule. You should run-in and drive in general using the blue smoke over the temp gauge as your regulator. l ran 10 tanks through my revo/ 3.3 for run in, never hard WOT until at least 6th tank, half throdle at 5 tanks, the thing with the revo is its fuel tank is a touch smaller than most MT in same class, so the extra tank or few is really a good thing in run-in. These engines being sleve fit, with no rings, require an EXCELLENT run-in for them to last with good power. Its all metal inside these engines, very small tollerances, any lean running does INSTANT damage, everytime, l hear people say, ''it only went over 340 once so it should be ok'' and it will be, but, wear and tear damage HAS occurred, its the nature of these beasts. So basicly if you double the run-in procedure that traxxas recommend, and do it right, being patient, you to could have an engine like mine, 12 months old and runs like its still got its peak compression, time and care.

RE: trx 3.3 problems
quote'' then i noticed that if i just gased it a little it would rev up and then i would let the throughtl go and it would stay at that rpm and not idle down but the carb slid would close like normal! I dont see how it was staying at that rpm Anyone have any idea what this is. Its lean. Did you tune it buy turning the screw on top of the carby or the one on the side ? How much did you turn the screw from factory settings the first time ? 1/8 ? 1/4 ? 1/2 ? You need to tune the needle on the side of the carby, with your above description, it sounds like you leaned the top end needle out [ screw on top of carby ] which leaned the whole engine out, at WOT it would probably stall pretty fast.

RE: t-maxx onboard cooling fan...
It works great. l have one on my kyosho dodge ram, but it runs off a pully on the bottom end, not batteries, which are heavy, when you pull up to idle after a few hard WOT runs, it makes an amazing difference, especially in SUMMER ! The fan that funs off the bottom end does not impede air flow at all, because, the belt that drives it is not overly tight and can slip, so when you get it up and screaming, the fan just speeds up as the air flow increases past what the fan can push, so they dont at all help overheat an angine, also the fan design is different to that' electric PC fan type design, on the kyosho designed one there is no protective casing around the fan, its built onto the fan itself , making airflow excellent.l know l should take a pic' for you but my camera is at the shop getting repaired , LOL, l ran it over with the baja, oops , LOL !
