OOps! I just found the scale gripen on this very thread. I cant look at that project without bringing a condom. Great lines Great execution. Has anyone drawn up the layout of the cockpit in orthographic view yet?

RE: Yellow F22 Build
Hey Dave, I normally paint much like you described, with airbrush mainly for camo work and detailing, but use a larger gun for base coat application. I guess in this case I was concerned about any possible "banding" due to the narrower spray strokes. From the pictures posted, this doesn't appear to be an issue at all.

RE: Yellow F22 Build
ORIGINAL: gunradd Sean thanks for talking me into using your airbrush! I will never use a big paint gun on a model agian. Now the painting is pretty much complete. Still have a few small areas to do. In front of all the flight controls is a tiny bit of light grey on the real ones so I still need that but the rest is done and ready for markings. Working on moving the servos from the rudders to the flaps today.
On the face of it, you would think a large gun would be more advantageous, especially for shooting larger jets. so Im curious, what benefits have you realized with the smaller airbrush in terms of the paint finish itself?

RE: 6th scale f-22 Raptor
@ Ram-bro Thank you. Im taking it a step at a time. Do you believe in jinx? Lol! Once I get the thing flying and totally understand it's behavior then I would probably offer a few. Its got a long way to go though. @ Hpghost. Hey Reno, nice to see you around again. you were making fast progress on your bird, maybe taking a break is just what is needed to build up the excitement again. are you still building the wind surf boards?

RE: 6th scale f-22 Raptor
Thank you Pablo. I also think your Cad work is very impressive. Your modeling of the viper gear in cad and it's simulation is down right sexy! Between your single seater and Peter's 2 seater, the lithoplate work is down right stunning. Regarding the Raptor, a lot was accomplished since my last post. first fuselage produced simply to work out all the mechanical systems...weight..thrust vector nozzles etc etc. a second much lighter and simple fuselage was made for first flight, but I had a new son born. New sons are expensive so I have had to concentrate on projects that pay bills for a while. Work will restart on the Raptor in March. Here are a couple shots of a little stuff done so far with the missile bays. I use Rhino for the core of my modeling and Solidworks when I'm doing more mechanical work and simulations. I'm looking forward to the completion to your highly crafted Viper!

RE: [Deleted]
Its Great that you are back on the cat, Thomas. I don't know if you ever solved the under wing bladder problem, But we did a large tomcat plug back in 2001 and we used mylar. Cut out the pork chop shaped bladders, since mylar is a thermoplastic, you can heat seal the edges after you add the normal pneumatic parts. stick the bladder in a woman's stocking to handle the friction. calibrate the bladder with the wing in swept position. Activation is with microswitches to control the solenoid/valves. I'm sure you get me. Really cheap, simple, and the effect is really cool looking on the ground. replacement is ultra simple as well.
ORIGINAL: YellowAircraft In the meantime, I will cheerfully strip butt nekkid if the TSA wants me to if that means I'm even just a teenie-tiny bit more safe when I fly. I think moaning and complaining about this is stoooooopid beyond belief. There's no violation there. If you don't like it, take the bus! Flying is not a RIGHT!
What is STOOOOOOPID beyond belief is attacking opinions that differ from your own. Get Nekkid all you want, if that is your choice. I simply believe that your willingness to do so should have no bearing on mine. RE: AMA Presidents Perspective - not looking good
ORIGINAL: Ron101 I have to admit I have been worried about this, but I have full faith that common sence will prevail. We are at war, we are getting paranoid. This is nothing new look at world war II we locked up japanese americans, started thinking everyone was a nazi. In the 50's Mcarthyism had everyone in fear of communist and spies. Heck in the 20s they even took away our booze with prohibition. The common thread here is in time common sence prevailed. I have full faith that the goverment will do whats right. I can't for the life of me understand why people are so upset about increased security at airports, maybe they were sleeping during 9/11 or have forgotten.. these people mean business we have to stay one step ahead of them. Maybe if we would have been one step ahead while they were learning to fly airliners into buildings 9/11 could have been prevented. I have nothing to hide, so go ahead and look in my bags and pat me down. We are all safer for it.. if your loved ones get blown up you my feel differnet about a quick pat down. In many ways maybe it is smart to have a good look at what we are doing with our RC planes and what the UAV guys are up too.. make some regulations and keep the population safe. It's like the helmet laws or seat belt guys.. if I want to ride without a helmet that's my business man, your business until you are a vegetable and on disability and the rest of us have to flip the bill. The government does many things for the good of the masses. Thats the way it has always been, why else have a government. This will all work out and in the end common sense will prevail..... so they have to take a look at us, we have nothing to hide. I'm sure they will see that. Ron
"Whats the problem if you have nothing to hide?" let's translate this overused phrase shall we? "I have CHOSEN to opt out of a particular freedom and now I will cast doubt on your integrity as a strategy to deny you that same CHOICE". Just a sneaky way of going from defensive to offensive by changing the point being discussed. Im pretty sure that I have no hidden cannabis up my rectum, but I dont think you should have the by default right to subject me to body cavity searches, as a free unincarcerated citizen. No one doubts the importance of safety, there should just be a clear line between a search and a prostate exam. a line that doesn't move every year.

Awesome thread! and awesome work! I have also been working on much the same project types but for modern jets. I did not go the route of the wire armature. What are your concerns of replacement of the limbs when the wire eventually breaks from too many cycles? Bela

RE: Degree of Scale
The China companies generally Rush a poorly researched and developed model to market, knowing there will always be a bunch of westerners who claim to have no time, but have plenty of credit cards. Prepainted is standard, which hides any possible workmanship problems. These companies often know next to nothing about the particular type of jet they are modeling, but astonishingly always have a long line of people excited about their next release. I often hear the terms scale, super scale, ultra scale, mega scale, but one look at their landing gear and cockpits tell the whole story.... and the outines are usually very suspect. They are a great deal if you simply fly ovals every weekend, but if you want to get into REAL scale, better you be willing to pay for it or just build it yourself.

Electrics total newby
Hey guys! Im from the turbine jet side and was totally surprised at the state of electric motors these days. I have a couple of questions... 1. What is the upper limit of the power of these motors thrust wise? 2. How feasible would it be to modify/build a motor to produce power in the 26-30 pound range? My interest is to devise a way to test fly some of the larger jets without the threat of killing the super expensive turbines. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

RE: Looking for Yellow F-18 Twin Kit
ORIGINAL: invertmast Last I checked, purchasing a kit doesn't include the rights to manufacture it as well. Which is exactly what you would be doing even if it was for just your benefit. Why not quit mooching off of everyone elses hard work and put the time and effort into designing, building, molding, building and testing your own product. Maybe then you would have more respect for those who do and provide all of their hardwork for such insignificant prices, and not just another leech of this hobby, like so many others. Well said Thomas!!!

RE: Scale f-16 cockpit
Hi Fiifiward! My weight estimates are not the most accurate. and in this case, none of the prototype materials reflect the final materials. This tub is made of wood and most everything else is made of old compact discs, vinyl tiles, and polyester resin, for material economy of the prototype. The short run of actual cockpits will use totally different materials. As soon as I get that Info I will post here.

RE: Scale f-16 cockpit
Thanks guys! Yes the cockpit is 6th scale. The problem I am having at the moment is that I assumed the market for it would be driven by the RC crowd. 90% of response however has been by model display guys though... ex pilots, commanders, crew chiefs and such. Those guys want all the detail I can cram into it with no concern of weight and fit. Even within the RC crowd, not everyone is looking for a competition level pit. so Im trying to reconcile two competing objectives. while Im waiting for my next shipment of resin, Ill have to figure it all out.

RE: Scale f-16 cockpit
This last shot Is simply to show what the war hud would look like mounted. For it to be accurate though, the cockpit would normally be black as opposed to grey. There is a bit of cleaning up that needs to be done for the following cockpits, and Im still deciding what route I want to take on the belts/harness/ and hoses.
