RE: What brand do you prefer that is made in china when it comes to lipo?
DesirePower LiPo is also made in China. I ahve used their V8 35C for a year now and they manages about 200 cycles before performance was not so good and they also had difficulty to get balanced at the end if their life and also was slightly swollen by then also. They was OK but I wanted little more cycles out of them. /Bo

RE: Batteries running-in and swollen batteries
Hi, Last summer I bought 3 pack of 6 cell DesirePower V8 35C 5200 mAh. Mid quality/price batteries. I have really tried to "nurse" them according to all LiPo take care of rules I know about. I started the first 10 flights with each pack to not run full power for only short times and I charged at 1C also the first 10 charges of each pack. Then I started to use 2C charging and that is what I use basically all the time, at home and at the field. I have never ran then below 20% capacity left (I have been very careful with that). Always storage charged to 60% capacity when I know I was not going to use the LiPo packs next day. I always balance charge. How long did my LiPo last with good performance and not swollen? Well during 1 years of use I managed to get about 200 cycles out of each pack before they started to loose punch and they have also swollen some now. They had difficulty to be balanced also at the end near 200 cycles (took rather long time before the cells was at 4.20 volt/cell at end of charging). I bought a new 6 cell LiPo (another brand) and it is rather big difference in performance between the older packs and this new pack. I had hoped the 3 LiPo packs would have lasted little longer, perhaps 300 cycles and I would have been very satisfied. But I think it is OK with 200 cycles but if I bought a high end very expensive pack like ThunderPower 45C or 65C then I think I would expect about 300 cycles. I have used my 6 cell packs in an F3A traning plane (Sebart Wind S 50E). I use charger Hyperion EOS 0720i Super DUO3 that has worked very well for a year now (my old charger of another brand went up in smoke a year ago). For the future I hope LiPo batteries pehaps can be slightly lighter even if higher C like 45-65C and I hope for more cycles (I dream of LiPo that can cope with about 500 cycles but I do not know if that will ever happen). The Lipo brands I have tried (Hyperion, ThunderPower, DesirePower and one Turnigy) has been very good performance so that I'm very pleased with. /Bo

RE: Expensive US made vs Chinese Batteries
How many cycles a LiPo battery can handle without loosing to much power is also important factor. I have read that ThunderPower should be good for about 300 cycles, DesirePower V8 for about 200+ cycles just to give two examples. Warranty is also important and ThunderPower seems to have the best warranty or crash exchange program for LiPo - or? /Bo

RE: Where to get Daddy Rabbit?
Hi, There was also a Daddy Rabbit version X (10) that was the last version, that Jim Whitley used at World Championship 1973. It will be interesting to see if anyone know if it was any drawing published for any of the later versions of Daddy Rabbit. It for sure must be a good flying plane (in hands of good pilot and correctly trimmed etc) since it scored high in both national and international competitions. Was Daddy Rabbit ever kitted by someone back in the days? Maybe there was a usable drawing for the such kit? If it was kitted it should probably be some ad about it in older Model Airplane News, RCM etc somewhere between 1967 to 1973/74 or so when this plane was "hot". Some info here about Daddy Rabbit recently where it is a picture of Daddy Rabbit X: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11179954/tm.htm /Bo

RE: Newbe Guestion Setup Wind S 110
Hi, Have You read the 72 page post of Wind S 110 here? http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7905478/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm Any special reason not to use standard components recommended by Sebart except lower cost at HobbyKing? Only thing I can comment on is Castle Creations ICE 100 ESC - I have that in my smaller Sebart Wind S 50E and it has worked fine so far (probably over 500 flights by now) but I use 6 cell LiPo (and get 70 amp at full throttle in air). Since ICE 100 can handle up to 8 cell LiPo and up to 100 amp continous I suppose it should be OK in most cases also with a Wind S 110. What setting You may prefer in CC ICE 100 I can not say and it depend on electric motor choice also. I use firmware 3.27 in my CC ICE 100 (I do not dare to use any newer versions since they had major bug in one of the newer versions). I use the BEC in my CC ICE 100 ESC to save little weight but in the larger planes like this Wind S 110 I would not use the BEC but instead use at least one LiFe or LiPo battery for receiver and servo power source and probably a PowerBox System DigiSwitch. http://www.powerbox-systems.com/e/powerbox_systeme/digi_switch/start.php I have no experince about HobbyKing Zippy Compact LiPo (I have only tried their Turningy 6 cell 5000 mAh 30C in about 100 flights and so far it is OK, but I use otherwise DesirePower LiPo mostly). A note about the Wind S 110 - there is a newer Sebart Mythos 125E (for 6 or 8 cell LiPo) just released in some countries (and soon released in Europe, later this month) so if you have not already bought the Wind S 110 maybe You can check out the Mythos also. But of course if you are on tight budget a Wind S 110 with HobbyKing motor etc will work fine also. /Bo

Hi, An OS 55AX should be OK since it is after all rather powerful engine with 1.68 hp at 16000 rpm. That is more hp then an old Veco 61 and Webra 61 Black Head that was used by Jim Withley in the early Daddy Rabbit versions (I think he used Ross 61 in latest version X and maybe it was close to an OS 55AX in power). http://www.osengines.com/engines/osmg0556.html Then You have Jett SJ60 LX high performance engine that is seize of OS .46 engine - that should take care of seize and power. http://www.jettengineering.com/ /Bo

RE: Daddy Rabbit
Hi, You will probably get problem with center of gravity (CG) the OS 120 4-stroke that weight about 35 oz /1000 gram. Daddy Rabit was designed for an engine about half of that weight. I suppose You can compensate some with placing standard servos for rudder and elevator in the tail near the control surfaces and maybe a larger then neccessary battery back in the fuselage. But it is always better to have the mass gathered close to CG and not spread out in various directions. Another problem You will have is the larger prop diameter you need with OS 120 4-stroke compared to a .60/.61 2-stroke - prop clearance to the ground if you make it original trigear will be a problem but You could make main gear/taildragger and that will solve the problem OK. You will also have it overpowered in my opinion but it will probably fly OK anyway. It will probably work but it will not be good really. There are so many good 2-stroke, 4-stroke and electric motors out there that will fit a Daddy Rabbit better and make the plane fly as intended. Daddy Rabbit was enhanced in many versions during the years Jim Whitley flew it both at top US level (NATS etc) and at World Champoinships like in 1969 (10th place), 1971 (6th place) and 1973 (8th place). As far as I know Daddy Rabit (I) was in 1966 and then up to version X that was the last version (I do not know the exact year but probably 1973 since at 1973 WC he had verion X). In 1966 version of Daddy Rabbit he had a Veco (Lee Custom) .61 according to the article in Model Airplane News May 1967. In 1971 WC he had Daddy Rabbit VII with wingspan 1638 mm (64.5 inch), weight 3714 gram (8.2 lb), Webra 61 (Black Head) with Silence Air silencer, Top Flite 11 x 7 3/4 prop and Pro Line radio. A Veco 61 from that era should not be impossible to find but may take a while. A Webra 61 Black Head is not that hard to find today even new in box if you have some patience (just check the big auction site and sooner or later it will be one there). On the other hand a modern engine like OS 55AX or OS 65AX will work fine also. Weight: In the MAN May 1967 article it is mentioned 8 pounds dry weight and 9 pound take off weight with fuel. Good luck and please make a build/assembly thread here regardless what engine You decide to use. /Bo

RE: Curare 60 - Build
Eureka has also foam wing+stab for Curare http://www.eurekaaircraft.com/pattern.htm Pictures below of my Curare I had back in 1978-1981. Rossi 60 FI RC with original Rossi pipe, Carl Goldberg retracts, 7 servos, EK logictrol super pro 7 ch radio. Built from Model Airplane News plan. About spoiler on Curare: I used not the spoiler itself (the part that extended upwards behind the "flaps"). I used mine as on control line plane: elevator up and flap down, elevator down and flap up. In 1977 TOC Hanno Prettner used another type of spoiler on his Curare, see pictures below. I remember one top flier in my country (Benny Kjellgren) back in 1978 had a short build article about his Curare (built from Model Airplane News plan) in our national model flying federation magazine (number 4 1978) and he had contacted Hanno Prettner about engine right thrust and down thrust and got answer 1.5 degree right and 1.0 degree down, because it is not same value on all published plans of Curare. In the article it was also mentioned some other valuable things like elevator throw of 5-6 millimeter up and same down is enough, rudder throw 40 mm left, same right. V-shape on wing same as on drawing, 75 mm. Weight of his plane 3475 gram with 7 servos, building time about 200 hours. /Bo

RE: What name has this plane?
WEDJ, Thanks for posting some of Your memories from WC 1971. So did You remember any of the winner Bruno Giezendanners flights? I happen to have a Marabu kit made by Mr Giezendanner himself that I'm trying to get in flying condition. I have some pictures of the kit (actually it was almost like an ARF so the whole plane was built already by Giezendanner) on the other forum here http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1695457 Banshee - that is a nice plane. I still remember when I saw one for the first time in 1974 at our nationals. Strange, I still remember that plane was all white and on one landing the nose gear folded back (it had retracts) and the pilot said some swear word loadly like "hell" when that happened (the landing strip was asphalt so the nose probably got some scratches underside). I was 12 years old back then and had just discovered the wonderful world of pattern. I also remember the winning plane at that contest, that was an orange-white painted Midwest Mach 1 (built from the plans, not the kit) flown by Benny Kjellgren - he came from nowhere and at the age of 20 won the Swedish F3A nationals (he was also invited to TOC in US that year and some more years later). He flew big precise manouvers and fast (he use Webra Speed) and had a brown/yellow radio that must have been a Kraft. As far as I remember none had pipes yet (I think 1975 or 1976 was the year it started to be more common here, like Minivox pipes for Webra Speed engines). /Bo

RE: What name has this plane?
Hi, I got American Aircraft Modeler May 1974 issue now and I have scanned the Fakir I (the winning plane) and Fakir II (second place plane) drawing from construction article based on the AAM Super Design Contest in Feb 1973 issue (see images below). I also found out that Fakir I did fly at the 1973 NATS since it was a photo (see below) in AAM Nov 1973 that covered the NATS 1973 (it say in picture it was Fakir II but that can not be the case, it is Fakir I in the picture). If anyone want Fakir I or Fakir II drawing in PDF, scale 1/1, that can be sent to print/plot bureau or similar to get a paper plan in scale 1/1 just PM me and You will get a download link. Remember when printing PDF that scale must be none (no scaling) otherwise the print out will not be in exact scale 1/1. Fakir I has wingspan 61 inch, Fakir II has wingspan 62 inch. I have checked carfefully that the wing half that is scaled on the two plans are exactly 61 / 2 = 30,5 inch (Fakir I) and 62 / 2 = 31 inch (Fakir II). Assuming all other parts are in correct scale that will make fuselage and other parts in exact scale also. /Bo

Hi, Me and my Wind S 50E participated in Swedish Championship 2012 F3A and Nordic last weekend. I was competing in class Nordic that use schedule P-13 as base but no snap rolls and easier rolls in some manoeuvres, spins not opposite directions etc. Nordic class schedule is very similar to Advanced Schedule A-12. Anyway, most people use 2 x 2 M planes but it is no problem to use a smaler plane like Wind S50 E since it can fly the Nordic Schedule OK. It was rather windy one of the two days when competing and my smaller Wind S 50E was bouncing around some more in the wind then the larger 2 x 2 M planes. It was very fun to participate. Two pictures from the flight line below where my Wind S 50E can be seen and most of the other machines (some is missingin the pictures). /Bo
